Elbow

It's no secret that there is a massive unrequited love affair going on between ChartBlog and the band Elbow. I say unrequited because, despite the interviews and the favourable reviews, I have yet to have proof that Guy Garvey even knows we exist, and this is a sad thought in an otherwise very happy way to pass the time. Loving Elbow is as easy as loving a favourite uncle, one who always has sweets on him, and has all the time in the world to take you to the swings.

So it seems a natural fit to find out that the band are seriously looking into making a musical film for children. This is something they want to tinker with while they work on their next proper grown-up album - the follow-up to 'The Seldom Seen Kid', for non-Elbonians - but it's no idle hobby, and it needs to be finished pretty quickly.

Guy Garvey explained to Billboard.biz: "We initially thought that it would be great to make music for children because the lads in the band have got kids and they were saying how little really decent music for children there is.

"The more that we thought about it the more that we liked the idea. We've quite often been up for having songs on children's animated films, but we thought that it would be great to actually be at the starting point for that process."

This from the man who has repeatedly praised the party-starting capabilities of the music of Louis Prima, the man who did 'I Wanna Be Like You' for the Disney film The Jungle Book. It's not the kind of talk you'd get from the Killers, now is it?

(Apologies to Disney for nicking this. You've got to admit Guy has a point though...)

Guy continued: "It's got to be something that not only works for us, but that works for the kids and when it's read to them that they can get into. That's what I love about it. It's the most honest thing that we could do right now."

(Although it would have to go some to beat THIS, to be honest)

"The first thing to do is find the story and that's great fun to research. I want to do something that really fires kids' imaginations. I think you can go somewhere in writing for children that you can't do with adults...You can really go absolutely nuts and kids will follow you and love it."

Well it certainly worked for Amy Winehouse, eh?

Anyway, the band are planning to choose animators as soon as they've picked the story, and will no doubt be on the lookout for actors soon afterwards. Which seems to me to be a perfect way for Mr Garvey to finally reciprocate all the affection we've been sending his way.

C'mon Mr G, gimme a part in your film! I'll be your best friend! Puh-WEEZ?
