Demi Lovato - 'La La Land'
Newsflash: Hollywood is a weird place. A lot of the people who hang out there act weirdly. You probably don't really need me, or indeed Demi Lovato, to tell you that, but just in case you were in need of some convincing, she's written a song about it, with a bit of help from the Jonas Brothers.
As a rule, songs about being famous can be a bit cringeworthy, especially if the whole point of them is to prove that you're not like the rest of those Hollyweirdos. Jennifer Lopez was kind of obsessed with doing this - she just about got away with 'I'm Real', but then completely went overboard with 'Jenny From The Block' (sample lyric: "Love my life and my public/Put God first and can't forget to stay real/To me it's like breathing"), the end result being that most people suspected if you really had to make that much of a point of how your feet are totally on the ground, then they probably aren't.
(. LOVE the kiddy bouncer for the child star.)
So, essentially doing a song like this is rocky ground, but the good news is that Demi generally comes across as the kind of bright, scrappy, girl-next-door type, so it doesn't sound quite so preposterous when she insists that she's still quite normal, really. Indeed, the song's more about acknowledging that Celebland is a minefield, and that it changes people, and making a vow to avoid that temptation.
Which is all very laudable, but is it any good to listen to? Actually yes: it's from the same stable of Disney-rock that the likes of Miley and the Fraternity Of Jonas have carved into the musical landscape, with a thumping bassline and a gradually increasing sense of mania and seriousness, which fits the idea of the song rather well. It's like "I'm going to stay a normal person, no really I am, noreallyIam, NO REALLY I AM."
You can almost hear the paparazzi cameras going off as she's singing.
Of course, the only thing she has to worry about now is that having made this very public declaration, if she slips up for a second, we'll all be watching...

"It has to be the only bubblegum pop song with a big guitar and piano solo."
"Demi has a very powerful voice and the rock music with her vocals makes this track a must listen!"
"The song has very amusing lyrics that makes her fans relate to her"

I thought your singles reviews were excellent.. and just like Jax on here with one of his reviews of a Swedish rock festival.... you write with passion and great understanding of your subject.
Right with you on your Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry reviews.
It was great to see the new video for the forthcoming Black Eyed Peas single "I got a feelin " and I agree it sounds like another huge hit and bodes well for the album... The End .
I used to wonder why Fraser added the odd snippets at the bottom of his reviews that are links to other sites , as I always felt that mostly his reviews stood up by themselves , but now I am glad of this , because by doing this and visiting sites like yours , we can all learn and keep informed about all things musical..
Good work....
Spirit.

Spirit thank you for your kind words again on my review. There are others on that site by me... In general though I really must resurrect Thranjax.co.uk and get some work up - keep hassling me and I will do it!

Released on June 22nd this has got hit written all over it..... so powerfully commercial for the Summer..... it has an uncanny talent for sticking in the consciousness of the listener after a couple of plays.
This one will be big!

And thespiritwarrior, I'm not Gerard McGarry, I'm a completely different person altogether. I'd tell you my real name and age but that would kinda kill the whole Enigma part of my username. I didn't write the Little Boots review but I did write the Lady GaGa review. Glad you like the song and the new video.
Oh and I'm loving I Gotta Feeling, took me ages to find that video.
Oh and Fraser fix that link!
