YouMeAtSix - 'Finders Keepers'
Ooh, shame! Had this song been released a few months ago, when there were less properly AMAZING songs around, it would probably stand out a bit more. As it is, it's tough to make it all the way through without wondering if there would any side effects on the human brain after prolongued exposure to 'Bonkers'. Like, would it literally drive you bonkers?
It's not the band's fault, although it is equally true that no-one is holding a gun to their heads and FORCING them to make slightly stodgy pop-rock.
(. Pillow fight!)
This isn't intended to sound like faint praise - or even a lack of praise at all - but it's just as well the band have a low boredom threshold when it comes to dynamics. If they played this song totally straight, as a slightly speeded-up super-power ballad, it would sound like one of the Fray had had two shots in his cappuccino instead of the usual one, and then fell on his amp, turning it up to 11.
As it is, there's a double-speed verse, some stop-start bits, intricate guitar/drum interplay stuff, none of which gets in the way of the chorus, because they're going to need that bit for the teen TV shows (see Gobshout's review below).
Nothing to get too excited about then, but perfectly serviceable for the gaps between all the pop brilliance, something plain to act as a contrasting background to a series of shiny things.

"If you are a fan of Fall Out Boy, PATD etc you'll probably love it."
"If I were 14-years-old, unkissed and had a major bonk-on for Wotzit from Gossip Girl, this would be Shakespeare to me."
"A pop track driven by heavy melodies and an unforgettable chorus"

Also I agree with Fraser, there seems to be a sudden avalanche of quality releases.
I am loving the music scene at the moment there are a number of songs around that are either top drawer or pushing boundaries in a real progressive way..
Hello
Dizzee Rascal
Black Eyed Peas
Empire of the Sun
Calvin Harris
Mr Hudson
Deadmau5
Pink
Enter Shikari
These acts are in some way raising the bar of pop songs and presentation... and personally I am absolutely lovin it !!!!

They do produce a fairly middle of the road sound, but it's a sound that for whatever reason really appeals to some people, while others find it terribly dull. Short of changing their style completely, there is nothing such bands can do to win over the people who already dislike this genre of music.
In my opinion, YMAS are much better at said genre than many other bands and, as they are so young, will surely only improve with time. They're also ruthlessly ambitious, so I reckon we'll be seeing a fair bit more from them.

Cover of poke face was pretty cool though. As much as I absolutely detest that song.
