Cobra Starship

The moment I walked into The 5:19 Show's studio last week for Cobra Starship's interview, they completely won me over. You see, this band are one of the biggest on the planet right now (well, if you're an American, which incidentally I am not) and I was there to do nothing other than cheer and whoop.

So when they walked over to me and introduced themselves with all their sexy American pizzazz, and then went on to deliver one of the funniest interviews and best performances I've seen, there was no way I wasn't going to be utterly charmed. Charmed like a snake; a cobra, if you will.

(Tenuous much?)

And, yep, their new single 'Good Girls Go Bad' has exactly the same effect.

( - it is HOT)

Cobra Starship are a band fronted by ex Midtown singer, Gabe Saporta, and this song features a vocal performance from non other than Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester. So you can see why it might be quite a big deal.

It was originally released flipping months ago in the USA and has finally got it's big release over here. And big is what it is; big and way fun. This song is all dancey, all disco-y and all punky - really current and REALLY marketable (I mean seriously, how polished can a song get?), but really good, too. Lyrically, it's totally arrogant "I know your type/You're daddy's little girl/Just take a bite/Let me shake up your world" and "I'll make them good girls go bad", but in a 'you can't help but like it' kinda way.

The only thing that's really a little bit wrong with it, is that it's just like the 3oh!3s, the Metrostations and the Say Anythings of the world. It's not that distinctive and while there's no doubt it's a HUGE song, a few years down the line it's likely I'll hum along but actually have no idea who sang it originally.

Whilst Miss Meester's input doesn't exactly give her the opportunity to display any real talent, it adds a certain classiness and puts her firmly on the popstar map, which, is definitely a good thing for her - you know, what with her own single getting its first plays this week (*cough*coincidence?*cough*). Along with her little bit, one of the best parts of the song is when Gabe sings 'ba-aa-ad' like a sheep, but then maybe that's just because I like animals and also because I'm easily pleased. Wevs.

Overall, yes. It's good. And fun. Probably a bit annoying after a while, but at the end of the day although it didn't make me 'go bad', it did make me liken myself to a snake, which can only be a good thing.

Have loved this song for months . Hopefully Liam will return the favour , and tell me when I first mentioned it ,as I know he likes it too ! Top twenty hit it will be , and its catchier than a thief with ultra violet paint on his shoes !

  • Comment number 2.

Like I can remember when you first mentioned it :p

What a track. Such a good crowd please, like you said Vicki, severely polished. Been on the radio for a while now, think its gonna hit the charts big. Top 10.

I had no idea Blair(e?) from Gossip Girl provided the female vocals on this! Shes simply stunning and part of the story like I actually find interesting in gossip girl (new house mates are a fan.. Ive been sucked in ..).

    4/5 me thinks.

    The sign says CHARTBLOG !

This is a superb pop single.
I can't get enough of it.
    As a pop single , it's a 5 star song !

    Ha Ha !
Your Spirit is on prime time T.V tonight .
I am not gonna tell you on what , because I am still a little embarrassed about it.
Will be watching thru my fingers !

  • Comment number 5.

Well, Spirit, as I now know your true identity (hello Facebook!) I'll keep an eye out for you.

  • Comment number 6.

Aha ! And now I think I know who you are .

Good looking guy , sunglasses , kissable lips , sat on a boat ?

    lol

Ooer. Best not let Lady Jerker hear you talking like that. But yes, that's me.

Still at work though - hope I haven't missed your big moment!

Hate to go off topic slightly, but I'd just like to object to your calling Say Anything indistinctive. I'm a tad biased as they're one of my all time favourite bands and I think Max Bemis is one of the best lyricists I've ever heard, not to mention that one of their songs has very sentimental value for me, but I honestly think they're one of the most under-rated bands around and hopefully, now Max is in good health they can set about making their mark in the music industry.

Trust me Curtains , it is embarrassing.
I won't be able to watch it...

  • Comment number 10.

Good girls go bad is certainly not indistinctive , the song , melody and chorus hook is firmly imprinted in my brain !

  • Comment number 11.

yea it is catchy and will remain for a while... was suprised at how well 'shake it' by metro station sold here so this should do equally if not better..

viki hits the nail on the head though in saying that it could easily be by metro station or 303... a lesser know group called 'Medic Droid' (who are awesome) are very similar..

I have been playing this non stop for the last week , scaring all my friends by singing at the top of my voice whilst driving on England's motorways. (legally of course !)

The "Good girls go BAAAAAAAD ! " bit is pure genius , love it !!!

  • Comment number 13.

sorry people but i don't like this song at all! i just find it bland, uninspired, unimaginative, boring, dull etc. . the lyrics lack any sort of wit or cleverness and there's no catchyness or hook to any of it. Meester's singing is especially bad. i've heard this song so many times on Radio 1 and it never gets any better. anyway, just my opinion.

also, what's with that computerized voice going 'good girls go baaaaaa!'? good girls go sheep or something?

  • Comment number 14.

This song gets old so quickly. In the world of Australian radio where there are only about 6 songs in rotation it is on all the time!

It is a great club song though!

  • Comment number 15.

    Still not old! Love it.
