Chipmunk ft. Esmee Denters - 'Until You Were Gone'
Chipmunk is not an artist whose work can be said to carry a lot of despair, is he? Everything about him, from the happy tone of voice to the cocky strutting dance he does, is an expression of extreme contentment. Contentment with his talent, contentment with the way he looks, and extreme contentment with the fact that the world has caught up with his way of looking at things. And when I say things, I mean the artist known as Chipmunk.
You've got to love someone cocky enough to pen a line like "you took off quicker than my career" in the middle of what is supposed to be quite a sad, apologetic song about a breakup, haven't you?
I'm not even having a pop at him about it. Being incredibly into himself is kind of what Chipmunk does, and he does it well.
(. It was filmed on the biggest chessboard in the world.)
He does at least balance it out with the slightly more humble "showboating got my ship wrecked", and, to be fair, it's debateable how much of the sadness you can really bring to a song as bouncy as this is.
I mean sure, all the words are about the terrible void Chippy and Esmee have left in each other's lives, but listen to the music. It's not saying that life is a mere shadow of what it once was, is it? No, the music is remarkably upbeat and lively. It's getting on with stuff, y'know, thrusting ahead, not worrying too much. It would, in fact, be fair to say that the music is in a much better mood than either one of the people who are singing over it.
It could just as easily be the backing for someone singing "I'm so happy you're back in my life again", or "I did really well in those exams, which is great because I've never worked so hard in all my life", or even "I won't let you treat me like that again", and no-one would be any the wiser.
Which just goes to show how quickly some people can get over heartbreak, especially when they know that their real true love is waiting to greet them every morning, in the mirror.

I like this song; I don't think its as good as the other songs he's released, but I agree with the review, 4 stars. I predict a top ten hit for Chipmunk!

Chipmunk does do the cocky thing well in videos and such, but not in the media or on't telly. Needs to take 'The Public Arrogance Course by Noel Gallagher; Mondays and Wednesdays at Burnage Civic Hall' to get the full Gallagher swagger goin on in the '10s. Although some aforementioned people are much more talented than others, in ones personal opinion...
*By the way, there is no such arrogance course, please don't go to burnage civic hall and accidentally sit in a meeting about hard drugs.
*i don't even know if there is a burnage civic hall. Comedic purpose, see?

'Chip Diddy Chip' was awful, really awful, but by 'Oopsy Daisy' I could tell he was going to be fairly big in the business. But the most annoying thing about this guy is how he raps, and sometimes sounds like a record slowing down, deepening and slurring the sound. Oh, and that annoying little chuckle he does.
But this song, it's good for about ten seconds and then it just falls flacid, really it's got some of his best lyrics in it yet the beat sounds repetative and Esmeé Denters doesn't really give her best vocal performance to date now, does she?
Mind you, the middle eight is VERY GOOD.
I'd give it 3 stars.

I like Oasis, but I hate Liam Gallagher, so their music is great, but they're not, it's not the first time I think about an artist this way for the record.
My favourite Oasis record is 'The Importance Of Being Idle'. Very good hook.

Fraser , have you not heard Chipmunk's most successful single and number 1 ,Ooopsy Daisy ?
There is no contentment here , ONLY a lot of despair .
In it , his female counterpart has hurt him again , crushed Chip's heart in the palm of her hand , said she has to go , because all she will do is hurt him again !!
How much hurt can Chip suffer ?
Our boy is NOT content ! Far from it .
She says she don't wanna hurt him , that's why HE has to go !
There is destruction like fire , ALL around him , that is WHY he has to go . This girl is a self - confessed walking disaster .
Here is Chip carrying despair :
He says that he would prefer it if she left him alone , he wants no more fussing and fighting .
This jilted lad wants to put Cupid in a headlock for god's sake !
He feels like The Saturdays because his heart has crazy issues .
You can tell our boys in despair because he questions why all the pretty birds **** on him !
Not much contentment on show here eh ?

Yes, I really think N-Dubz "na-na-nai!" is the worst of them all.
Also does anyone notice that GaGa is obsessed with the word "eh".
"Eh, eh, there's nothing else I can say!" - Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)
"I can not text you with a drink in my hand eh!" - Telephone
"Eh eh, eh eh, yay-haw, yay haw, eh eh..." - So Happy I Could Die
That and stuttering.

He has such a big fan base too and so im sure they will be out to buy his records in force. I was watching some of Chipmunks music videos on and he has a real charisma in front of the camera too especially for such a young artist. So I am sure his career will go from strength to strength. Its also great to see such a positive role model for kids too.
