Now there's something going on, something going on I tell ya...

...just returned from Monaco and a truly thrilling F1 GP, hats off to the Hamilton boy but here's the thing.

Recession, what recession? You have never witnessed anything like it. Boats as big as office blocks, owned by individuals. I know we know but when you see them up close, and so many of them and what they are all part of, you begin to realise how ridiculous this is all getting.

One of these dream machines had a crew of thirty for a maximum of twelve guests. It was called Alfa Nero, Google it, I dare you. It takes 78,000 gallons of fuel, SEVENTY EIGHT THOUSAND !!!!!!!! That means in the last year her fuel bill has "increased" by almost £16,000 a trip. Increased by! It has a full size swimming pool on board, complete with a glass bottom and a retractable helicopter pad, just like Thunderbirds only for real.

Could it be possible that recessions are "CREATED" so every fifteen years or so vast swathes of equity become available at enormously discounted prices so that the very very very rich can steel in and sweep up billions of pounds worth of bargains? Or is it just that the man who thought to put cold lager into EVERY INDIAN RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD is a genius and good luck to him?

All this is all the more ironic as I atttempted to get into London today and it took me four hours because the poor truckers who can't afford to run their lorries anymore are having to roll in, pull up and speak out.

Alright so anyhow, first night in the sticks last night, pictures follow, as promised....

rescession hurts those who have the least to loose the hardest - end of story.

fingers crossed, we should be okay as long as we keep out jobs as we have lived pretty frugely and as long as we can pay out huge mortgage (we did pay a big deposit we had saved up for but you should see the house prices in Bucks) then we should stay solvent - but that is a lifetime of never having expensive holidays/ clothes or things (we have sofas that were old when we got them second hand) - its just not fair!

whence the rich just get richer - and I'm sorry chris - but you are one of the rich and I'm sure your accountant will make the full adantage of the slump to help you out.

So -as mu mum says - don't talk about money coz you will always end up upstting someone.

    Is it a 25'?

  • Comment number 4.

    Oh one and all

What a lovely photo of the dogs and the caravan don't look too bad either.

I love boat watching. Of course alot of the smaller ones are charted. Had great fun watching a group of three guys trying to drop anchor in the bay I was on last year. After several attempts, they then dropped the motor launch. Anyway the launch broke down so they swam ashore. However the boat broke it's anchor and they commandeered a pedalo to get back to it. Not what you want people to see really.

Clodagh Rubbish it's just all stress coming out.

My world was rather turned upside down too this weekend. But I can't talk about it to anyone.

well chris we're skint at the moment, not on the breadline but having to make a few cutbacks, miss out on a few usual 'extras' for afew months. Not being able to do any overtime has affected us quite a bit, it surprised me how much we relied on it to be honest. Can't sell our house which is a bind as I'm desperate to be nearer my daughter. We'll ride it out and prosper in the end hopefully. Bloody money eh? drives ya mad.

Coco - what's up? you've mentioned it in the first place so you must want to talk. If you really cannot then I hope it all sorts itself asap. If you get on fb feel free to email me if you think I could be of help. Remember - we're a nice bunch on here and will help if we can x x

Inspectorcoco, hope things work out whatever happened at the weekend. And I hope you know that if you ever can talk about it, we're all here to offer what support we can.

CLP, were their yachts bigger than yours?? Sounds like an amazing experience but, like super bp, I doubt it's something I'll get to see any time in the near future!! Recession is not really something I have a lot of experience with, this is really my first as an adult.

Hope the [not] caravan is to your liking!

    F@@@@@@@g h@@@@ - just googled Alfa Nero....

Amazing people us humans - but by heck I think we get some things very wrong.

  • Comment number 14.

I was checking out the boats during the race, there was an amazing big grey/blue one that looked like a battleship or something. But it was parked alongside the rest of the white ones so it was just a privately owned luxury yacht. I'd love to own a luxury yacht. :O)

  • Comment number 15.

If it weren't for the rich I would not have a job! Money makes the world go round.....
I work on one of those boats!!

    Chris,

Glad you had a great weekend - I don't grudge you anything. But believe me, there IS a recession! Have you SEEN the price of potatoes?!

Just want to say to Clodagh: I am so glad your mum is recovering - what a terrible time for you - the stress is such a killer and that's what's wrong with you. You're gonna be ok, I reckon a vat of white wine is what's needed!

Tinsel: I have just managed to catch up with the blog over the weekend - and I have to say, you and I sound like we're on the same wavelength! The Osmonds were wonderful on Jonathan Ross (I saw them in Glasgow a week ago, and they were just fantastic). Also, I have to confess I am falling madly in love with Sir Alan! I totally get where you're coming from!

Super bp: what a shame no-one came to the M - if it had been possible, I would have been there. I have now met two of the bloggers on my own: MWK and Amanda. I was VERY nervous meeting them but both meetings turned out brilliantly - they are wonderful girls. I hope you get to meet some of the bloggers at some point. You could always come to Glasgow and Mary and I could meet you for lunch!

Ah Clodagh, just slowed down and read your post again having raced through the posts a moment ago. Little Man in bath, Daddy supervising thankfully.

Poor you, you must have been beside yourself.

You have been so strong for Renee, no wonder you feel so drained right now.

Sending lots of love to you and Renee, let us know how she gets on xx

Thanks so much yous lot for your sweet messages, yous is all sweethearts and I so appreciate every one.

I must say though, I need to pull meself together; I'm welling up at the slightest thing and snapping at the tiniest provocation; and yet all is well. People have to weather far more serious and tragic storms than this, I need to catch meself on.

Therefore can I say again, my grateful thanks for reassuring me that I'm somewhat less of a pathetic freak than I thought.

And I promise I'll be back, rantin' an' spoutin' me usual load of old sh...rubbish (oops get me wrists slapped) as soon as I can find me marbles again.

Clodagh don't be so hard on yourself. What you have been through is still very traumatic and you are behaving just as any of us would I'm sure.

    Chris

First up, I hope the pub isn't underwater.

Had lunch all booked up at The LI yesterday and couldn't get through the raging torrents to the pub! Luckily, The M bailed us out......

You are quite right. The rich are getting richer, and the rest of us are cutting coupons out of the back of cereal packets.

We see it day in, day out. I pass petrol stations with telephone numbers where the prices used to be on the way to work, and arrive to find we sold another three Ferraris at the weekend.

Without harping on about what happened at the weekend, my offers still stand for those concerned.

Much love, huge peace and crumbs, only three days 'till the weekend

Wow I really like the cool looking not caravan, i'ts nothing like the one we stayed in as kids!

I know that money is important to make life tick over but it does not make you happy and I know this as I have seen it first hand having worked for multi millionaires and they just didn't ever get to be satisfied or fulfilled, maybe it was just them but I feel if you have your health and strong family ties and good friends you don't need bucket loads of money to make you happy.

Hi there ayrbrain hope you enjoy the blog!
It can be quite entertaining somtimes,

Love to hear some more Bob Dylan.

Coco - was it a good thing or a bad thing? Whatever it is, I hope you know that all us bloggy friends will be supporting you.

I don't begrudge people having lots of money if they've earned it - good luck to them. It's when we keep hearing about politicians taking the right royal mick with their expenses (OUR MONEY!) that I get cross (understatement)!!

Chrissie - thank the lord someone else understands me!!! I now have Simon Cowell on my list too - don't think he's quite as odd as S'rAlan and the Lord - but ooh, saw his hairy chest last night and went all weak at the knees!!!

All you need to do now is get to know it well, then fit a towbar and electrics to that nice silver LR3 and hit the road..

Nice note from Airstream guys too.

Have been playing catchup on FB and other places and sending out cv for speculative applications.

This got sent to me this morning - I hope the bp's let it through as it brought a smile to a dreary day...

    Lipstick in School

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back.

Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses). To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it.

Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

There are teachers ............ ......... ..... and then there are educators.

Morning all! Had a lie in this morning til 9.20, so just sitting on the sofa in my pyjamas hee hee.

Yesterday was ok cathmel, just a couple of hours spent talking about mum and her life. I think what it boils down to is that she was just ordinary and she led a pretty unremarkable life filled with small pleasures and triumphs. But then I think most of us do (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here!). What I liked best was listening to stories of her life before I came around, like when she was a teenager going out with the girls every Friday and Saturday night. It's hard to imagine she was a different person then.

So all went well. Funeral tomorrow, interment on Friday. Then back to life as I knew it before, or perhaps not quite.

Hope everyone's well and looking forward to t'weekend!!

Just wanted to say how impressive that english/american chap was on the show last night.

GSDs (German Shepherd Dogs) are renowned for being incredibly loyal and will protect their family until death if the family unit is under attack. Not only that but there are many siblings and offspring of champion dogs who will not make the grade and who get sold by their breeders for normal prices.

He's taken both of these very normal things, trained the dogs for two years and then gets to slap an ENORMOUS price tag on to the dogs, markets them as 'special' AND GETS AWAY WITH IT.

Fair play - why can't I come up with an ingenious strategy like that....

Anyone want to buy an 11 year old, fully trained Belgium Shepherd Dog who will round you up while you're out walking with friends. He's a bargain at only £35,000.

Or perhaps a beautiful but stunted moggie of indeterminate age who will sleep all day and look pretty, £27,500 - she's so real looking, she looks stuffed.

    jx

  • Comment number 82.

a-flower - I bet you'd be surprised at how much your dad does remember, my gran's about the same. We're going to see her this weekend, I don't think I've seen her for a few years now due to living in the wrong part of the world/country, and mum has warned me that she probably won't remember who I am. But she remembers the wars, and remembers her sister (now departed) getting drunk at Christmas one year and dancing on the tables. She remembers a whole lot of stuff that happened way back when, just nothing really from the past 10 or so years and was convinced it was her birthday the other week, despite her birthday being the cold end of October like mine.

Like beesmum and superbagpuss have said, it's the little things that make a person special. :) I'm going to be trying to remember that on Saturday when my gran doesn't know who I am and has to be the centre of attention the whole time we're there.

Clodagh, hope you're doing alright :) go easy on the rescue remedy now! xx

JenEwan, I am still chuckling at that story!!

And beesmum - as for the thunder and lightning, I was kept awake by it last night booming around the hills near us. Hubby slept right through, lucky thing.

Gingembre - hurrah for light duties again! Hope the knees aren't complaining too much at being allowed to run again, bet it feels good to be on the mend though.

Here's to a special lot of people :) or a lot of special people. Whichever way round, you're all pretty unique :)

    Happy hump day all!

    xx

Hi chickadees! And a BIG WOW for the caravan Christophe! I've been missing the show as I can't find my ear thingy for my phone as I'm now walking home, and REALLY missing the blog due to no pc at the Sett etc, and I'm probably chancing it a bit on here now...so shush...softly softly catchee monkey...

Why the caravan? I've missed SO much it would seem...and I will be trying to read back, but...I guess I'll have to see if I get the time...anyhoo, 'tis a stunning beast of a machine by the look of it...all you need is a pool and a waiter and you're set for a sultry summer al fresco. Under the awning if wet.

I'm at my lovely new job, and loving it, but I don't think I'm going to be able to be quite as bonkers commenting now I'm here...I have three months probation during which they expect me to work miracles (so far just a light lunch from a couple of baps and a cod, but we're getting there) and I have two HUGE cupboards to clear and catalogue...and for someone who doesn't know one end from the other, this may prove to be a bit of a long job, but hey..IT'S GREAT HERE!!!

    Beesmum, bless your heart! XX

Love to all, I've missed each and every one of you!

    ...and...Clodagh, X for you and X for Rene...Inspectorcoco, hope all ok X

    love

Nice caravan. You're a flash git Evans. But it's still a caravan! I'll have the yacht thanks! (Could be banned on first posting?)

Hazel Love: I just roared with laughter at your "loaves and fishes" reference! How we have missed your wit! Great to see you back, just chance your luck at blogging once the boss goes out for lunch!

You have missed a great deal (as you can imagine) but briefly, Chris and Natasha are living in a caravan until they can move into the new house. Pet lambs, eh?!

AlrightFlower: I think you will find that life will never be the same without your mum. But she'll be there with you (in some form) and you will survive, even when it starts to hurt. I tried so hard to get my parents (both departed) to write down their life stories, but to no avail. There's a lot I do know, but much more that I don't! I write a letter each year for my daughter and I put them in a box for her which she can read once I've shuffled off. That way, she has a record of what's been happening and I can give her lots of information that I know she will want some day!

    One and all

You are very very nice people and I mean that sincerely folks.

I sometimes liken my life to a budgie in a cage longing to escape. Suddenly at the weekend my keeper opened the door of my cage. This has allowed me the freedom of flying away at last.

Today however my keeper must have regretted his actions and has taken a day off. I caught my keeper trying to access my email.
Fortunately the internet is one private area he can never take away from me.

Anyway, thank you all but I really am ok.

Nice to see Hazel back too.

    Thank you again.

    Hallo bloggers,
Yes I echo all the support and good wishes going around. My you/we are nice people, some blogs Ive drifted into (mind you Im new to the art) are populated with very bitchy and kinda sarcastic/ mean/ know-it-all types, so naturally me and my sense and sensibility exited stage left.
Any 'prentice fans left, or has everyone switched off now it seems Loudmouth Lee or Condescending Claire must have it in the bag ?
and I know it's early, but would "Caravan of Love" be a goodie for ARF ?

    Jings, Inspector Coco,

Jolly good luck with the flying. Wings might feel a little stiff and not too hot at flapping after so long in the cage, but trust them and soon you'll be soaring above our heads.

    Best of british to you,
    jx

inspectercoco - everyone needs some privacy - and a respect between people should ensure this.

I would never open my mans post or crack his email code and vice versa but he is aware of my fb buddies and this site so there are no secrets - just repect that we are indervidual people and have our needs for our own persuits.

if we can help inspectercoco let us know - we are all very friendly here and wil always help if we can.

    Hey there bloggers

I have just joined you all. Have been reading you all for a few weeks now and decided today was the day. For some very bizarre reason I am nervous!!!?? No idea what that is all about! Anyway hope you will all look after me as I have never blogged....EVER!!

Coco you inspired me to join. Absoloutely nobody should feel caged in any way. I could go on for some time but as it's my first blog I felt I should keep it short. But I am reading a book at the moment and came across a quote that I thought of when I read your entry today.......

' Do your own thinkng independently. Be the chess player, not the chess piece.'

So as Deredhead said to you sing...very loudly!!!

Right off to work now! Look forward to catching you all later!! This is so exciting!

With regard to Mr Evans blog post, how vulgar to boast about one's wealth whilst saying 'recession, what recession?'. As the first blogger stated 'rescession hurts those who have the least to loose the hardest' - of course it won't affect the likes of Mr Evans, but there are many less fortunate who will be feeling the pinch right now. I think he should stop bragging about how much he's spent on vintage Ferraris and trips to the Monaco Grand Prix.

    Bah.

  • Comment number 96.

    FatherofLola,
I suggest you learn the art of reading! Mr Evans is not boasting of his wealth, but of other people's, who are indeed, beyond the everyday cares and woes of financial constraints.

There is not an intimation of boasting or belittling of others in what he has written, merely that some have enough not to care about things that matter to us mere mortals.

PS Did the earth move for you Nancy!

Sorry FofL but if we did not have the ability for individuals to enterprise and succeed we would in fact be under a regime such as those in other poorer parts of the world where we have no idea of the suffering of the people in those countries. And I think Chris was trying to explain his concern about the cash on display at such huge levels. Whilst being aware that many are struggling financially. don't believe he has to feel guilty for buying his dream car or getting whatever it is his little heart desires as like so many he has worked hard and sacrificed much for the pleasure. Just that his is more expensive pleasure. So we should be saying well done.....he didn't get it all handed on a plate!!

    So well done Chris!

Dreamurdream: Believe me, I know just how you feel. When I sent my first comment (a very long time ago!) I was so nervous! Sometimes you will get a reply and sometimes you won't (I've said things to people direct and they have never replied) but in the main the blog is terrific and you will love it here!

FatherOfLola: Money is such a touchy subject, I know. I'm skint most of the time; I live in a rented house; I have had sleepless nights too many to count. But I am aware that for some, that is not the case. I work for a millionaire and I can honestly say he is so unhappy, so for some of the "have's" it ain't good!

Inspectorcoco: be strong and don't, whatever happens, get back in that cage. OF COURSE he's changed his mind - but that's his problem!

Welcome Dreamer - you'll be very happy here.

Coco - keep practising, one day soon you will fly and remember we are all here cheering you on. Can you ask anyone for help???

FatherofLola - Sorry but you've got Mr Evans wrong and DD is absolutely right. I don't believe he's ever boasted - I think he just realises how lucky he is, sometimes shares his excitement with the bloggers/listeners, and his happiness is contagious.

Hazel, lovely to have you back, and Clodagh and AF, hope you're both feeling ok today.
