EVEN DEATH CRIES WHEN IT'S WRONG.

Chris Evans | 15:01 UK time, Tuesday, 6 May 2008

Yes alright, I know it's a sunny day, it's a glorious day but how about...

...Anthony Hopkin's appointment with death in Meet Joe Black.

What a movie, watched it in two parts, as I do most films nowadays.

All I could think an hour in was, why did so many people say this movie was a stinker when it came out ? I also spent most of the first half of the film wishing Robert Downey Jr. was playing the Brad Pitt roll ?

The movie was excellent, truly excellent and deserving of little or no criticism, when Hopkins walks over the bridge with death at his side, his life lived, his story told, I was liviid at anyone who had stopped me watching this film for the last three years and then...and then... AND THEN.....Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... They were right. What on earth were the producers thinking. The film ends there. It is not sad, it is poetic, it is what happens but not, not NOT...if you know, you'll know. If you don't, it's not up to me to tell you in case, well whatever.

With regards to Robert Downey vs. Bradders, in the end I think The Pitman desreved the gig.

CLP.

    Hello Christoff and all,

so correct, a beautiful day and an excellent weekend was had by all.

MJB, what an awesome film, have to agree with CE there, loved every second of it.

If you do read this Mr E, watch Mr Brooks (if you have not already seen it) an absolute belter, not too much and too little and a few twists too, Costner is excellent and Demi is very good too.

Cant wait to get out of office, just too hot an I wanna get my kit off for the sun, drink a cold one and relax with the most beautiful woman I know.

    Laterz,

    Errol

Holy GG's, CLP - you can definately tell you're married - happlily and all that.

The one BIG BIG feature I cant get out of my head about that great film was the girl -absolutely and definately has to be the summit of female beauty, poetry in motion, eyes you could drown in, lips you could cling to, legs you could. . .

Sorry, sorry, getting carried away . .

J'agree about the sudden ending, not good but SHE was . . . O my God, nose you could bite, ears you could nibble, toes you could . . .

But I'm really looking forward to him being at home tomorrow when I get home at 6!

    Ahhhhhhhh.

DtM - cold shower for you, my dear!

Is gorgeous Day, absolutely beautiful. Glad to be alive.

Don't be watching sad movies on a day like this. Be outside, watch the birds and the bees!.

But if you feel like a good one.

    The Notebook.

    Watch that!

    Much Better!

CLP ..... your interview with the ice cream chap at 6.15 was radio magic. Your obvious enthusiasm for the subject matter infectious and your reaction to the demise of Big Foot and Funny Face had me in stitches.

    Only one thing tho .....

I was listening on the way home after doing a spot of shopping in W@itr0se and it suddenly dawned on me that I'd forgot for buy ........ ice lollies.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Woman's Minute: love Sangria. I got a recipe from a bar in Pineda on the Costa Brava in about 1989 and I still make my own version of it. Jugloads! Red or white! Pepe, the owner of the bar said the red sangria was for true afficioinados and the white for the tourists! Genious!

Also love beers - got a beer festival in town this weekend. Bliss!

Hokey doke. I'm off to do something else!

PS: currently drinking a nice cold glass of REAL cider. Flat. Slightly cloudy. Organic. Fab! oh and 7.5% ABV.

PS: for those who were wondering .... white sangria is made with Cava/sparkly white wine.

Matt - why 9 minutes kip? Are you still stressed out, or were you paaaaaaartying til dawn?

    Hopefully the latter!

You got me thinking about bands with numbers now. Cheers for that!

Firstly, Matt ahhhh........ a lavender bath how lovely. Note to self, must have a lavender bath before considering running off to join the circus.

Thank you for the good wishes regarding my MiL. She was very down today and I tried my best to keep her from getting too sad. She is a very independent woman and it hit her hard today that she can only get from the lounge to the downstairs loo and back. Imagine me, down, trying to cheer someone up! She seems ok, ate tonight too so mission accomplished.

CtD, thanks hun. Had a sneaky glass of cabernet earlier when cooking dinner, just a little treat. Whilst counting to ten, twenty and beyond.

Off to help MiL ready for bed now, or the sofa anyway.

    Love to all

    Until tomorrow friends.......................

I've watched the start of Meet Joe Black and enjoyed it- now I wanna see the end! Not a big fan of Brad Pitt, though. Which my best friend can't believe- 'you're female; what's wrong with you?!'

  • Comment number 25.

Sat in your garden drinking tea?! Now that's the life :o) I'm looking forward to enjoying a cup of tea again, that was my one happy addiction and I can't believe I've gone off it. I shall be in the garden drinking water today, enjoying the general gorgeousness.

Mmmm I like Brad Pitt... but I have to say Johnny Depp tops the lot!

Debbie/Florence - keep your chin up love :) you're doing an amazing job. If cabernet and counting does the trick so be it - I'm sure your MiL appreciates what you're doing for her, and I hope she's able to say it one day. I hope this brings the two of you closer together, I really do.

We discovered a bee colony just beginning in our shed yesterday. Thought it was wasps so I bought a wasp nest destroyer foam thing, then the hubby went out to do the deed and discovered they were bees, not wasps... can't bring ourselves to kill bees, so what do you do about them?!

    Enjoy the weather and remember...

    SUNCREAM!

Have never seen the film Chris but why would you want to watch a film on such a loveley evening, that a winter past time, get outside with a nice glass of wine and talk to your lovely woman.
    Bye for now

    Buenos Dias one and all

Afraid I am hopeless on films. I watch very few. As for actors, I wouldn't know Brad Pitt if I met him in the street. I'm so sad.

However Gingembre I have been giving some thought to your 80's fancy dress. Now then, Now then, the top eighties performers were Madonna and U2. You just need a pair of sunglasses to be Bono and your wife needs a frock with some ice cream cones attached. Hope this helps.

Never liked that film Chris - sorry.

I did see the new(ish) Tarantino one recently though. It's called Death Proof and I thought I would hate it because it's all about car chases and girls in skimpy hot pants - I was imagining a film version of Max Power - but I shouldn't have underestimated ol' Quentin, should I? It's fabulous - strange in the way that his films always are but well worth a watch.

    Enjoy the sunshine everyone.

Matt - I'm envious! We're not having a big holiday this year, just several mini breaks (perhaps under canvas??)

We've got Whitsun week off and so far the days include a trip to The Globe to see Shakespeare as it's meant to be seen, a CAMRA beer festival and a trip to The Emirates to see Mr Springsteen. As a Gooner, I'm not sure which to be more excited about - the location or the entertainment being provided! I just hope the sun's hot and the beer cold!

    I'll keep thinking of I's!

    Morning all,

I have just got a wheelchair for MiL from the British Red Cross and I am soooo pleased. What lovely people.

Must dash now and get little man ready for school. Busy busy busy!

  • Comment number 46.

    Now Debbie,
had I known what a caring, wheelchair pushing nurse you were I think I'd have employed you these past 3 weeks!!!

Not seen the film in question so I'll make no comment!

Please sort out Bingo's blog - someone?????

Just had estate agent on phone wanting to know if I can 'do a viewing' in an hour???
Well in this climate (house selling, not heat) I had to say yes really.

Thanks for the 80's suggestions, I was thinking of Delboy and Raquel? but I like the thought of MrsW and a couple of ice cream cones....Adam Ant then for me I reckon?

Matt - that's 4 lines (8 if you count spaces!)

    Welcome aboard.

Talking of which ... has anyone done a Duck Tour in London? I was thinking of alternative ways to get to the Globe other than the toob and thought of a river trip from Greenwich, then stumbled across the duck tours website.

Looks fun, but can anyone clarify vfm etc?

    Cheers!

Good afternoon this fine hump day.

I got home last night - did back and front lawns and then a little weeding. relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Tonight I have to start sorting out some cupboards as lack of space so decluttering.

Hey Inspector coco - seen the news item about the landslip between Lyme and Charmouth?

I must say that I enjoyed watching Flood over Sun/Mon nights - nice Mr Hamish Macbeth starred.... hmmmmmm

    Phoenix

  • Comment number 51.

I gave up with Flood - there's only so much wet Robert Carlyle a gal can take!!! I have to admit, I wasn't impressed with his London accent - he reminded me of Captain Jack Sparrow!

I'm guessing they saved london from doom and damp destruction and everyone lived happily ever after?

  • Comment number 52.

    I never mentioned.

But given the opportunity, I would have RDJ in ANY film.

And if he were to walk by, I'd suck the face off him (after a breath freshener of course!

I'm thinking you should just block Bingo and MfR altogether.... these one liners......

Although I was thinking maybe it was a ploy to make blog look busy!

  • Comment number 53.

Hey CtD, someone was talking about that very tour the other day on t'radio. Said it was absolutely brill, lasts about an hour and is really good fun.

I've been on the one in Liverpool, that's fab too - especially when you go in the water, it's such a giggle! And the driver (in Liverpool anyway) points out all the places of interest. I'd say deffo go for it, it's worth it for a one-off experience.

DWNB - you can have RDJ - I'll have Brad in his River runs through it phase - that's until Jose realises he and I were meant to be together obviously, then Brad will have to go.

I'm away now till next Tues and will have no t'internet access till at least Sunday - so stay well and happy everyone!

    Let it shine :-)

Phoenix, you know I have my suspicions about the landslide at Lyme. Now there was a woman featured on the 大象传媒 鈥淥ne鈥 Programme, This unfortunately lady has a terrible flatulence problem and so spends her time out walking most days in the countryside in order to let rip鈥.. Sounds a coincidence to me.

Also what鈥檚 happened to Bournemouth Airport? It looks like a war zone. It鈥檚 so handy too, you can fly to Majorca or Majorca or Majorca.

Gingembre, Stand and deliver is it. Don鈥檛 forget the black stripes on your face.

Bingo thanks for the Share tip. Might buy a couple of pounds worth.
Bingo I have to use a different browser to blog. Try Firefox. Works for me.

Christophe Lemony Puddin' - how right you are ref Meet Joe Black - how a film can move at the same pace from the second "Joe" appears to the end of the film and keep you totally enthralled is just pure genious. And I have to say, although not a big Brad fan, he's fantastic in the role, shaded only just by the gorgeous Clare Forlani !!
