WHEN THE DATES DON'T MATCH

Chris Evans | 15:03 UK time, Monday, 12 May 2008

So, we are due to move on the 28th. Thing is...

our old house is definitely sold to a family who are definitely taking posession on the aforementioned date, however our house will not be ready! Quelle surprise.

My wife, in her wisdom, dropped this half expected bombshell a few weeks ago over brekkie.

"So what should we do ?"

Several options :-

Move into me mum's.
Move into one of our pubs, (which is what we thought we were going to do but we have since decided that this would be a certain recipe for disaster.
Move into a hotel.

Or...

And this, I think, is the winner.

Stay in the garden of the new house in a funky caravan or big posh tent.

Why not ? It's the right time of the year and we live in a lovely part of the world, the kind of place people would kill to camp or caravan in any case.

Have currently got my faithful assistant looking into the American Airstream mobiles, they look ace.

Any ideas ?

CLP.

2008.

X.

P.S. Just so you all know, the picture of Enzo watching his own flat screen was not at our house but at the vets. No need for anyone to get their knickers in a twist.

P.P.S. Cany you believe this ? Have now taken to saving the crossword to do whilst watching the grand prix. I mean cricket, alright but the grand prix! Seriously, is it the case that the more glamorous something is the more dull it has to be by definition.

Why not stay in the "mid week London pad" for a while. Summer in the city - hot hot hot!!

Please, please, please play Viva Las Vegas for MfR tonight - he's off to Vegas, Fulham stayed up and we'll miss his wit and repartee whilst he's at the tables/slots/Elvis cabarets etc!

    Cheers ears!

    Lovin' ya work!!!

    Love the camping idea Chris!

We're taking BabyG camping in the summer - he'll be 9 months old, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that it *could* be a recipe for disaster!

As for the make of 'van...I think the Airstream ones do look cool but I'm not sure how much room you'd get....personally if you can guarantee the warmth I'm a big tent fan...here's ours -

As for the Grand Prix..Mr Jo fell asleep and I read my book in the garden

    :o) Jo

Ello CLP - Yeah a Winnbago motorhome sounds like a good option ter me.... yer could also park it in Portland Place - know what am sayin'!!!!!

Failing that why not join Enzo - 'e looks like 'e's living in luxury...... then you really would be in the dog 'ouse over the situation!!!!!

    PS.........

  • Comment number 4.

Sounds a brill idea to me Chris - spent some time at the weekend trying to persuade my other half to go camping for a weekend so that we can take our GSD Max to the beach. He just loves water. However other half wasn't keen :(

Hey ho - back to work.

    Loopy

(PS second blog - I think it might become a habit!)

CLP know of a place in Wales where they do those winnebegoo thingys - cost half a house but boy are they posh! Will email if I can remember name but they do to order so extra bedroom for Enzo and Co

  • Comment number 6.

The caravan idea, definately the best one. Having just checked out some of those American Airstream thingys on the web I would say go for it.

Nothing like the caravan I remember staying in with my nan and grandad. The kitchen table turned into some kind of bed I think. I loved those holdays, playing bingo with nan and going to Jaywick Market....memories all flooding back.

Matt, have a great holiday mate.

oH i think Camping, but proper Camping.

We have a lovely Tent - it has three compartments for sleeping in, and one compartment for living in.

At least then you would be in the garden, and have toilets close by. Or you could just go proper camping and not wash for a few days.

Get a wee gas stove - and cook rice and curry in it. And then burn a wee fire at night time. Don't worry about the grass, you can buy these wee pots to make a fire in, Is brilliant.

And then at night, you can lie with your head out the tent looking up at the stars, and go to sleep counting the shooting stars.

    How cool would that be!.

ps - migraine officially clear, and no painkillers since 8.15 am this morning.

  • Comment number 9.

Oh wow that would be amazing! I would love to stay in a Winnebago, I would only go to a musci festival if I could have on of those!

Love the sunshine! Was at work today and who came in to see me... Gingembre himself! Its my mums birthday tomorrow so busy wrapping presents etc. But really want to be in the fella's garden looking after the plants and chilling out. I have become a bit addicted to the gardening as I always do just before the Chelsea Flower Show. I WILL get there next year!

    Chris,

I think the posh caravan is a fab idea, my sister has a static caravan in Luce Bay, south west coast of Scotland, and it is just heaven. The caravan is so luxurious, I would live in it in a minute!

CtD - You are on fine form today :o) xx

Sammie - Hazel has been on holiday and is currently between jobs, can't remember when she starts her new job, think it is next week but that's the reason she hasn't been blogging. Hopefully she will be back on line soon.

Congratulations to your son on winning "coaches player of the year" fantastic achievement!

Well done to all the proud Mummies on the blog xx

Mr Russell Edward Brand did a stand-up thing recently about going on holiday half an hour from where you live and why not go home at nights instead of staying in a cold caravan. Brought memories flooding back, and oh so true, and oh so funny!

MwK - I'm flying the flag for bloggers everywhere! Can't wait to go home tonight tho - still loving the job but loving the sunshine even more.

    Greetings and Salutations from Vancouver,

I hope and trust you all had a fine weekend. Having read the various blog threads from the weekend, I can but add one comment...

This forum has always been defined by an unswerving generosity of spirit, uplifting camaraderie, shared good wishes, compassionate understanding and an undeniable sense of positive energy.

I for one cannot and will not deviate from that road and any attempts to vandalise the 'entente cordial' of this blog should be unreservedly and unapologetically eschewed by us all.

So, my trip back to Blighty starts tomorrow. Marks and Spencers food court, here I come, family reunions, beers with friends, Edinburgh, Windermere...Life can be tough and by god, we should enjoy the good times.

To you all, a good day.

Bingo - we're a fiesty breed, us Leo's! Out two of us together and like cats in real life, we'll either love or loathe each other.

Mr Diva is a Virgo - laid back, chilled and logical. We go well together!

Notched up 12 years of wedded bliss yesyerday (yesterdee, as you'd say) and we've still not crossed swords or had a row of any description!

Like all Leo's, my pride and joy is my mane atop my bonce.

    Rrrrraaaawwwwww!

    CtD xxxxx

PS: can also go meeeeeeooooow when called for! xxx

  • Comment number 42.

Oh wow DWNB, you make the camping sound so fantastic I want to be off now!

Only had one experience of camping, back as a wee schoolgirl. Memories of a muddy field, my friend having an asthma attack in the middle of the night, and rivers of water running down either side and the middle of the tent. Give me a four star hotel any day hahaha.

Mum and dad live in one of those static caravans, fab during summer, cold during winter! Love listening to the sound of the rain on the roof though.

On balance CLP I think I'd go for the caravan. Bit more protection from the elements (and let's face it, this is England, it could turn nasty at any given moment!).

Ooh, only half an hour til hometime (well, gym time...).

Enjoy your time in Las Vegas and don't miss the water and music show at the Bellagio. Try going into the hotel and snagging a seat on the terrace with a cold one...it is even more delightful that way.

Oh, and if you can get a ticket, Cirque Du Soliel shows are absolutely incredible.

PS CLP - I've got a very BIG important question I need ter ask you on the blog termoz!!!!!

    Tarrr........

  • Comment number 62.

    Hello all...

CLP you sounded right excitable talking about the rechargable chickens! When we buy a house next year (hopefully) I might have to see if I can persuade the hubby to let me have a chicken...

Talking of food, the hubby has been trying to boil the kettle to cook some pasta for dinner. Got one of them kettles that heat up on the hob. Only the wrong gas ring was on, heating up the empty frying pan for about 20 minutes.

    Sigh.

I guess the chickens don't need to worry about moving house, the garden's already there, right?! Where would you have put them if you'd stayed with your mum, or at one of the pubs, or in a hotel? Who would've looked after them? Think you've made the right choice camping in the back garden there!

It's felt like we've been camping the past week, eating outdoors on a picnic table all week. Gorgeous. And I'm not worried about my sun exposure any more, 20 minutes of sun three times a week BEFORE putting on the sunscreen is what you need for a good dose of Vitamin D :) Hurrah! Any any more than that and I bake, so no desire for sunbathing for me...

Coco don't leave us, your posts do inject a bit of madness and levity into the blog and they do make us laugh!

    Happy Mondays :)

    xxjeni

CTD- But its the glamour of Chelsea I want to see and love seeing on the TV!

Inspector- Don't be like that. :( The thing to remember is as we have all been blogging for a long time we natually grow to know each other and care about each other. So when someone says something hurtful will say something. But as even Debbie herself said everyone is entitled to their opinion. So come or dude stay posting!

Gingembre- what a surprise! Sorry couldn't speak long, I was serving that lady for ages after you left!

Well just looked at the weather only 2 more days till the rain comes! NOOO!! Oh well it will save me watering my little Chelsea garden in Lowestoft. Missy xx

  • Comment number 66.

    All in blogland.

Thank you for your kind wishes. It'll be a whirlwind trip, but no doubt a good one. LV has become a regular destination over the past few years, so we know what we're in for.

Except, there's a twist. For a belated 60th birthday treat, we're taking Mother of MfR along with us this time.

And she's never been to the good 'ol US of A.

    Let alone Las Vegas.

We'll have a flutter for the bloggers and if we win big we'll treat you all to a night at one of CLP's fine hostelries.

Don't get too excited though, the odds are stacked against us.

    Love to all

"sounds like you might begetting around a bit" ... a phrase that has been used about me in many a context in years gone by...

Thanks for your magnaminous words. I am sure we will have an utterly splendid time, right from the moment my folks pick us up at the arrivals gate at Heathrow (cut to opening scene in Love, Actually)...

Actually, I am sure I will be cock-a-hoop from the moment I leave work this evening.

Yes camping in the garden will be fun if the weather stays like this! and if you get into your house on the 28th then its only just over two weeks but these dates do get to be stretched a bit.
Hope the weather stays like this it makes everything so much easier and look so much better, was it really snowing four weeks ago?
Wow just seen some bats flying around the garden it must be summer.

Birthday on Wednesday but will be at work so I hope to do something nice in the evening!

Been thinking of Enzo hope he is getting on OK....

Hope you are all enjoying the lovely weather!

Good evening fellow bloggers - I have just got back from a hold up in Poole - Artic had a fuel spill and caused major chaos as only one way over the lifting bridge - the 6.30 bridge lift was delayed due to sheer weight of traffic and lifted at 7pm. Then there was a fire somewhere on Hamworthy penninsular and the emergency vehicles were off again just after having cleaned up the spillage. What a night and I got to watch most from the quay where I had a meeting.

Missing the daytime blogging and can only blog in the evenings at present.

    oH oH Oh

The Camping, If you want to have a REAL camping experience, then you have to go to Fisherground in Eskdale.

This is a campsite with only 4 toilets per sex, and 4 showers, hot water for washing dishes and tumble drier for drying off soaked clothes.

But it is THE most beautiful place on earth. If you go first week in July - it will be deserted. Just two great huge fields, set in a valley. You are allowed to use fire holes, so in the evening you can sit by the camp fire and watch the smoke sit above the camp site below the level of the hills.

You can listen to the grasshoppers, and the larks singing, you can walk along hillside paths - there's even an ice-cold river you can jump into and cool down - my son and husband have even jumped off a little bridge into it - from about 12 feet above the water. the water is so clear your heart just stops looking at it.

You can climb a hill and go skinny dipping in the tarn at the top.... Boy No 1, Skinny Dipped and Then Ran to the Crest of the hill, only to be met by a RAF Fighter Jet taking a training run close by the hill. What a vision the pilot must have had!

All go - Go Now... To the Great Outdoors!

I suppose it’s the land of virtual that sometimes I have become too involved in. I am not talking about the blog here. But when you find yourself discussing your problems with strangers, surely that’s not a good thing. I found myself retreating into a secret other life. It’s taken me a long time to realise that one day your virtual friends are not there anymore. Only real people matter.

I was recently in a bar in Majorca and two people sat there on lap tops all night not speaking to anyone. It’s a strange World.

B’s Mum I am not really grumpy just controversial.

Nev and Gingembre Well done yes Prof Plum here. I have been confused with being a man too.

Bingo Wondering what the question is.

    Missy thanks you know why.
