Tents look amazing. If you know anybody who needs some grass to camp on over the weekend, I live near to Goodwood. Sorry no Hot water, boiler has gone down, but can boil it up.
Weather today has been quite dry. Car will stay put this W/end, walking is quicker. Think the rain will hold off, it's because we are very good this side of the downs.

I have been reading your comments about MPW this week. It is all very well with Chris being excited about MPW's visit to the show and to his nephew's pub.

My own experience of MPW was firstly, that he photographs a lot better than he looks in person. Secondly, he can be very unpleasant to ordinary members of the public if there is not a tv camera present, or he is not at, say, a book signing. I was a paying customer at one of his restaurants, and his attitude was uncalled for.

Well, dazzling: interesting perspective. I did get a hint of that when he was talking about his current partner and his ex.

We have no idea what goes on behind the 'face', do we? Have often wondered, when walking down a street, what is going on behind peoples' 'front'.

I can well believe that dazzling. He just has a "presence" tho, which if you've not met the man, is somewhat alluring. Regarding his looks, agreed that now he is rather craggy for his age but his younger photo-shoots - WOW! he really was the uber-Rock Star chef. Les Enfant Terrible.

I read his autobiography last year and yes, he does come over as arrogant with perhaps (some might say) archaic opinions towards his women-folk, but there's still .... something.

Have never been to a MPW establishment, but can highly recommend The Ivy, or it's sister restaurant J Sheekey: the latter being a fish restaurant. Never seen any celebs (don't want to really), haven't a clue who the head chefs are, but the ambience is welcoming and laid-back, and the food simply sublime. And no - you don't have to be a gadzillionnaire to eat there either.

Mr Diva was complaining about all the saggy neckage on Corrie earlier ... Audrey and Dierdre I believe, were the main offenders. Said it put him off his dinner! Best I get some of those high-neck jumpers when I get to 74 then!

Annie: to carry on from our earlier conversation about work: the targets, appraisals, prp etc was when i worked in local government. we were so busy monitoring, reporting and justifying our every move that very little actual work ever got done! we had to key in every morning, key out for lunch, then back in again, then key out at home time - it was like one big keying in and out hokey-cokey!! i'm amazed we never had to key out when going for a wee.

so glad to be out of that environment!!

Am 2/3 down a bottle of red. Think I should sign off now, feeling a little reckless!!!!

The thing about what MPW looks like in person is that the photographs do him a lot of favours full stop, and it is nothing to do with being older than when the Bob Carlos Clarke photos were taken. He must be photogenic - he certainly does not have a 'presence' as you may have thought. He looks ungainly - I was hard pushed to recognise him.
The meal was diabolical - it is the first time I have ever had to leave a meal in a restaurant on the basis of it being so bad, but I was glad I did not complain because when I saw him, you can tell from his expression, that complaining is not a good idea! He made a nasty gesture at me as he walked past.
The bit about his new partner will come as a surprise to the British media, because up until the beginning of July, he was telling the newspapers and magazines that he was not dating anyone - maybe he has a problem with the truth.
