SAD DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN BAD
Early blog, ...
... had to say goodbye to Enzo this morning.
He was supposed to come home last week but his condition, which had been acute for several months, became chronic last week.
I went to see him earlier today and he really was a dog that needs to be at peace.
One final walk and then it was time for him to go.
Lots of love .

So sorry to hear about Enzo, we too had to say goodbye to our very brave springer spaniel Thomas after 15 years this year, it was nice he was at home in his bed and not stressed at the vets, which we were grateful for.
It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, but you know it is the right thing when it all sinks in in a day or so, no more suffering and at peace. Just remember the happy healthy times he had, like we did, thoughts of him running through fields on a sunny day!

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

I know how you must be feeling but once you get over the really sad times all you will remember are the good times.
We rescued a beautifull coker spaniel called Ben that had been mistreated as he had had testicular cancer as a pup and was no good to the breeders.
Although the cancer came back after 6 years we know that he had a good time and gave us tremendous pleasure.
That was 18 years ago and even now we have another rescued dog ( a Jack Russel this time called Eddie) I still think of Ben when walking in the woods or along the river bank of the times we did (even in the river sometimes).
Anyway time does heal and with baby on the way you will soon have your hands and thoughts full of other things, but the good memories will live with you forever.

How good was the maestro tonight though considering the effort he put into CIN and then to lose his faithful Enzo, the guy is a diamond.

You have mine and Mrs PoolMan's sympathies. I personally dread the day that one of my cats falls badly ill and we have to take such a decision as you did. Like you said (pretty much) you can only go so far before it becomes obvious that its not in the animal's best interest to keep trying.
Chin up and thanks for a great show. Perhaps next time you have me on for a request, my van's CD player will behave for me!
Cheers

"What are you reading, Mummy?"
"Chris's dog died and went to Heaven honey, I'm just reading all the nice messages."
"That's sad."
Pause.
"Mummy, when my cats and fish die, I can get a dog, can't I?"
Trying not to laugh, "But that won't happen for a long time, and you will be sad when they die, won't you?"
"But, Mummy, they will be in Heaven with God and that means I can get a doggie, doesn't it?"
What can you say!?!? She has, I hasten to add, said this a few times - the way their wee minds work!!
Can I just reiterate what has been said before, I think it's amazing that folk have written such beautiful things. You are a unique bunch of folk, you bloggers and blogettes!

Chris, well done on a great show last night, despite your sad news.
Tiggs, when's your birthday then? We have to start planning the party!!!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!
By the way, I agree with jothelawyer - Little Drummer Boy was fantastic. It's my mum's fave Xmas song of all time so guess what she's getting for Xmas???
Hope we all feel a bit happier today. My friend is having her final IVF treatment today, so any positive thoughts you can spare and send up to Liverpool at around 11 am would be MOST appreciated :-)

Lots of things have been said already and while we agree that it was his time and how, after all he's gone through, we're not surprised, but none of it helps. We know. We went through this last year when we said "goodbye" to our beloved goldon retriever, Sam, the day after his 14th birthday. Someone sent us the Rainbow Bridge and that ALWAYS makes us cry. Someone else sent us Rudyard Kipling's, The Power of The Dog
There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie--
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find--it's your own affair--
But...you've given your heart for a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!);
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart for the dog to tear.
We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long--
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
We do it because they love us; because there's a wagging tail when you come through the door - no matter how awful your day has been. Because a toy will be thrust at you as if to say "play with me, please" and though it can sometimes be annoying at the time, oh, how we miss it when its gone.
We won't say "chin up" because its right that you grieve for the loss. We will say that we hope the pain eases over time.
Warmest wishes to you all
Sue em All and Realwit
