Guess who's back - back again ?

Chris Evans | 09:40 UK time, Monday, 27 July 2009

Tis I, people of the blog - truly refreshed and ready to go - not unlike our new look blog itself.

Hope you have been well peeps.

En famille we had the bestest summer holiday ever. It all started up in Scotland at The Open two Tuesdays ago and a warm up game of golf at a local golf club between drivetime and those devils from Five Live.

I'll let the pics do the talking for a bit...

Five Live"s Ian Carter bunkered in a challenge match - drivetime lost by one shot on the last hole - d'oh !!!:
ian_carter420.jpg

Tash on the eighteenth - in the distance Tom Watson prepares to miss an eight foot putt for the championship:
tash_eighteenth420.jpg

In the gallery of the telly boys and girls waiting to go on. Tom Watson on the monitor - little did we know then on the Saturday morning how close he would come to pulling off the greatest sports story of all time:
golf_studio420.jpg

My on course partners in crimes against commentary - left to right -
Alistair Brice Ball, the genius that is Mark Roe and the pesky but brilliant Andrew Coltart:

The newly knighted "Sir" Nick Faldo on the stunning eighth tee.
nick_faldo420.jpg

The golf is over - so after walking at least forty miles in five days at Turnberry we go on a hiking holiday for the next five days. I thought my legs were going to fall off!
tasha_noah420.jpg

After all that walking me and junior needed to lie down for a couple of days - so we hot footed it all the way down to The New Forest and snook of for some 'r' and 'r'. "Please dad no more..."
noah420.jpg

We were due back home last night but we decided to put off reality for one more day, which explains why this is all being transmitted from my Burbery somewhere on the M27.

See you lot back on the radio.

    Hooray Chris is back!

Glad you had a great holiday, looks like it too from the pics. Not really a great fan of golf, but I got into last weekend big time and enjoyed it. Think I'll take it up when I retire...LOL.

I had a mad crazy weekend. Spent Saturday catering for 120 people for a 65th Brithday Party, why do I get myself into these things?? Left other people to do the washing up though, as I went to see The Proposal at the cinema on Saturday night....great film. Sandra Bullock is brilliant and Ryan Reynolds very nice eye candy...yum yum!

Although I don't know why I go and see romcoms as they just depress me!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday, shame about the rain!

Howaya Christoff yous auld gobdaw. By the crin what a wheeze yous all have had.

Meanwhile we have been droppin' like flies back here at the ranch, what with the outbreak of the Swine Flu in Wigan, Housemaids' Knee in Wales, Haggis Elbow in Scotland and sore heeds everywhere else, not to mention my tragic and obviously fatal brain-rot. Chiz as Molesworth would sa.

Any road up. Ali. Never mind the depression following The Proposal. On the recommendation of the nightmare cousin Baz, we went to see possibly the worst fillum ever made in the entire history of cinematography, namely Hangover.

Now at this point, I should say that I should have known better. This is the man who once famously roared, "Jean's just taken me to see the worst film I've ever seen. Out of Africa. Out a bloody Africa. What was all THAT about."

The man is, as we already know, a sartoroial phylistine, but how we laffed. Anyway, having never cracked me face throughout the whole fillum; which, it has to be said, will be thoroughly enjoyed by teenage boys and neanderthals everywhere, the lights went up and, as one, we all said, "Out a Bloody Africa?"

So don't bother with that one girls. The only redeeming feature is the v. cute baby. And even then I'm always filled with horror when babies are used amidst the chaos of adults shoutin' and roarin'. It's not big and it's not clever, and certainly not funny.

Right. Am off shortly to look for vintage cuff-links. Will explain later. That's cuff-links, Bingo and Rips. Not Handcuffs. Ey mind you, there's a thought...

I know they say you should go through the change acceptance curve before criticising anything new, as most of the time once you realise there has been an improvement you can then let go of the previous way of working etc. But I have given the new blog a chance over the last fortnight and I'm still struggling to see what is better and I'm still convinced the navigation is harder than it was. Can someone from Tech support please let us know what the issues were that the new system addresses and why it is not possible to show the old calendar link to previous day's blogs.
Rant over - welcome back Chris - I too anm loking forward to 5.05!

Annan. Dyou know what. I'm with you, I've struggled over the last couple weeks with the new blog, thinking it's me resisting change and being a dreadful aul technotrout eejit, but no, I'm not comfortable with it either. It's like having tunnel vision isn't it. So hopefully, back to the drawing board, chaps; I'll be a happy bunny and am sure I can't be on me own.

Hazel, that's awful, sweetheart. How did I miss that. Shingles is nasty, nasty. I know a couple people who've had it and it can be a long road back; hope you're well on the way, sunshine. I'm sure you'll be restored back to your 100% rude health and humour in no time.

Sorry for the absence, but went back to work today, and had a zillion emails to go through, and a few angry one's as there was no "Out of Office" on! We do have a set up where others can check your emails, but the two who have access to mine clearly couldn't be ar.. er bothered!

Anyhow, all sorted now! next time I get swine flu, I'll try to remember in advance to do OofO first! LOL

Hope you get some good news Bondy, I've still got my fingers crossed, but am finding it hard to type.....Glad the Daphster is OK too, a new photo would be great!

CLP, it sounds and looks as through you've had a briliant time, thanks for the photos!

Hazel, you poor thing, I've never had it, but I can remember my Nan getting it quite regularly at one time. Building a nest on the sofa is the only way to go, with a quilt and pillows, cushions etc! I can never stay upstairs, I always need a drink or something, and once I'm downstairs, I hate going back up!

Anyway, need to ring my Mum to see how she is, just a bad cold I think.

Evening lovelies ..... and welcome back CLP. After 2 hours hurtling down the A14 you were just what I needed at 5.05 this afternoon! Lovely piccies too - Noah really is bootifull!

Well, we had a lovely weekend, if complete opposites with the weather.

Friday night - got the the village in South Derbyshire where we've stayed for the last 9 or so years. Sadly the pub had recently changed hands and the food was dire, the landlady rude and unwelcoming and the clientelle highly amused by the Fawlty Towers-esque display.

Saturday - Qualifying day. Sunburnt, red nose, red arms, approx 10 miles walking, cold cider trackside, all in all a jolly good jape! And yes, it is bloomin' hilly round the Donington Park vicinity!! Good for the glutes tho! I@ll be cracking nuts betwixt me thighs by December!

Sunday - at the circuit by 8am, set up camp, huddled round hot coffee cups, huddled under brolly, huddled under polythene poncho (so not me!!) and left Donington Park with trench foot. And why why why do they change the traffic "management" every year?? It took us over an hour to get out of the circuit gates, then diverted round half of South Derbyshire. Luckily diverted thru a village with a Spa shop, so red wine was indeed puchased and we were back at the holiday cottage in time for Top Gear. Result!

The racing was OK, not brill, but ok. Good to see 3 different faces on the podium. When Rossi fell off there was a collective gasp of 90,000 or so spectators - weird!

And hurrah to Scott Redding - the 15 year old Brit who finished 3rd in the 125cc GP. (he won there in 2008).

Topped the weekend off by stopping at mums for a pub lunch en route home today - she's about half way between Doni and us, so it all worked well. And because it was a pub lunch, no cooking tonight! hurrah!!!

Weekend was saved by learning that I can update/comment on FB via my mobile phone. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!!! Today, this was my saviour!! ;-) xx

Back to normality in the morn.

Debs, methinks you should have had it booked for both weeks!

Have just finally spoken to MiL...dammit, she makes me so annoyed, full of excuses why she didn't ring me when I was ill!

And turning down an offer of a home cooked roast or BBQ if the weather's good for an nasty local kiddie pub place for next week! Well, I ain't going!!

By the crin JG. How vexing. Still, that's MiLs for you. But don't stay in that angry place, the only one who will get eaten away is yourself. Let it pass, sweetie.

Ey listen up. Yous may have trumped me wit the Swine Flu but seems I'm afflicted along wit Monsieur Sarkozy. Ah jaysus. I'm not 'avin' THAT. Anyway never mind. Bugger the heart condition, I bet I know exactly what happened as 'e minced up the Champs-Elysses. 'E was ambushed by one a them Killer Chipmunks with the Ray-Bans and the rabies, and tripped over 'is emergency white flag.

    Sacre bleu. Whatcha reckon.

Aww Clodagh, I no, I mean, know, she means well, but, she spends half her life saying how much she enjoys my roasts, and then she does that!

I'm not one to hold a grudge, and as long as I don't get to end up driving to this nasty place, I'll survive, although probably won't eat much! Unless I can find another illness to get me out of it, I'm gonna be stuck with it, and the non-speaking BiL and future SiL!!

At least they'll have eaten before they get here on Friday, even if I might not have!

Not a happy JG :( Sorry!!

    Hi All,

Welcome back Chris, sorry I just can't listen to Mr Mayo, even when Sal & nige keep him company.

I know evereeeeeone has already said, but hopefully someone at the Beeb is reading this...the new blog is hopeless. Too slow it's like being back on dial up in the last century!

Bondy, good luck with the job news...we've just started getting J Ross in Oz as well - I cry with laughter. hopefully there's a good backlog of them to catch up on.

Jakey girl..from last week...I've finished the TT Wife. *sniff* brilliant *sniff*.

It's a lovely sunny day here in Franche Compte, sorry if it's still dodgy where you are.

Since I've been away we've been taken over by huge killer slugs they're everywhere - action has to be taken!

A day of weeding the veggie garden then off to collect my eldest son from the airport yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!

    Have a good one everybody.

Beautiful morning here in Edinburgh too. Sitting having breakfast looking over the blue sea. Makes a change from torrential rain - poor tourists who have to sit in it to watch the Tattoo up at the Castle each night! Doesn't rain here all the time honest! Looking forward to Chris tonight.

    Good morning folks,
Blimey just walked to work , sun shining no rain , going to fetch a coffee to have with my ham and egg sandwich, luvly jubbly, may even do a bit of work soon.

Great to have the maestro back, cooking the tea is a more pleasurable experience.

Not really ready to face the day this morning, as I'm very tired. For some reason people decided to start playing football outside our house at 11pm! (After already haven been woken by Mr JG).

Yes Beez, en suite, but with a perfectly good shower over the bath...

Anyway, a couple of strong coffees and onwards and upwards!

    Morning all

Well there is always one isn't there? Cloudy and dull here, the decorators can't get the paper I want (which matches the carpet I've ordered) the dog is kicking up merry stink cos he wants to "get at" the decorators and a low flying jet has just burst my eardrums and parted my hair whilst I was walking up t' garden to the office!!! Oh yes - Mr B's frantic pulling of paper off walls last night! Clearing up it cut my hand and leg!!! Oh and double yes - my back hurts!!

Apart from that - all is fine and I'm a happy bunny really!!!
