Still Buzzin' From All The Love and Good Vibes

Chris Evans | 15:04 UK time, Monday, 6 July 2009

Say Hi everyone, Peter Fonda says...

... Hi

blog_060709.jpg

This is how the four days of Drive time Children in Needing culminated this year as the winning bidders said goodbye to their trusty piston powered Italian Stallions with a run up the famous Goodwood Hill Climb, Peter was there to take an easy ride up the hill. I also had am amazing conversation with him about his good friend "Jimmy" Coburn and the car of his that I bought last year. Peter said he'd been in it many times and that "Jimmy" loved that car - a real thrill for me to hear this from one of the great man's best friends.

Four days of non-stop driving, eating, smiling, chatting but oops very little sleep.

The thing is sometimes when you're doing things for all the right reasons, the energy just keeps on coming. I love driving and I love my cars but this morning I would have been happy not to see a road or any set of wheels for a couple of weeks - not to be however as I left my wallet in one of the cars which ended up in deepest darkest Essex so I have just completed another four hour spell behind the wheel before arriving here at the mighty Radio 2.

Can't thank the listeners enough who pledged the dosh for the Dine and Disco and of course the Car Caper, and for the first year this year I remembered to enjoy it instead of worrying all the time. Really, honestly and genuinely can't wait for next year, we are thinking about the details already.

Thanks to everyone involved big love to you all, almost half a mil to the kids, you've got to pat yourselves on the back for that one.

CLP 2009.

    Hi Chris

Glad you had a good weekend and well done on all the money raised for the kiddies. You is 'da man xxx

I had a wonderful weekend quietly celebrating my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary, which in this day and age is a fantastic feat. Yesterday my Dad gave me and my Mum a guided tour of Cambridge as he relived his university days - it was good to share that with him. They are only in their 70's but none of us know how long we've got - so live each day to the full I say and take time to listen to the oldies as they depart their wisdom xx

Have a great show and evening.

Nice picture Mr C! Defo one for the album.... Not sure about the hat though. ;-) I watched Mr Fonda on the One show the other evening and I thought he came across as a real nice guy. What illustrious circles you move in.

Half a million quid is an awful lot of dosh! Rather puts my weekend efforts into perspective. ;-( Still from little acorns and all that. ;-) Well done everyone! ;-))

    Looking forward to the show!

    Keep smiling

Hello all, haven't blogged in ages, today's the first day i've been able to draw breath in days!

Looks and sounds like evryone at the drive and disco had an awesome time, and half a million quid raised is a even more awesome result. It's fab how even in times of recession people still dig deep for a worthy cause.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

  • Comment number 18.

Bingo, have a boss day at work!!!!

  • Comment number 19.

At one of my previous jobs when my boss was absent, which was quiet a lot of the time actually, we would call it a B.V. day standing for boss vacation. We would get more work done when he was not around and have fun doing it..... it was almost like we enjoyed working on those days....... sigh!!!!!

  • Comment number 20.

Bond: I may be deluding myself, but my lot, since I've retired, are never off the phone, even the person who took over from me!!

Am going in on Wednesday to sort them all out.

I hope they never felt like you, in your previous job.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 21.

I still keep in touch with the people from my old department from the B.V. days. We are all quite good friends and we go out for lunch 5 or 6 times a year. The BV referred to the boss we reported to...... I alway thought of my staff as equals and treated them how I would like to be treated, but never was by my last 2 bosses..... yet they stay and I go..... I must be doing something wrong......

  • Comment number 22.

No Bond, they are just good at bulling. Have had those bosses too.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 23.

Annie, you're probably right but they seem to keep their jobs while others get the elbow........

  • Comment number 24.

I left a job because of a horrible boss - a long time ago now - but in the end she got the bullet. Eventually found out by her Managers. I wasn't happy about it because I loved that job, but as the saying goes - what goes around, comes around.

    You'll be ok Bond.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 25.

    Thanks Annie...

  • Comment number 26.

You're very welcome James. And you know we've all got our fingers crossed for you.

Hi Annie, just had something to eat, and have wrested the laptop from Mr JG....

He's on call tonight, but finished at 4, and is waiting for "that" phone call....

I would hate that, could be now or 4 in the morning, or both!! Or even every hour.....

Bondy, sounds like you're OK ?

    JG x

  • Comment number 30.

CLP, that sounds like a good weekend to me! You should be very proud.

Can't believe how I've got through today on such little sleep.....still on a bit of a high from last night I think.

Lady Gaga is very, very strange. But I kind of like her. Does that make me strange too.

Had a bit of a 'mare getting home though....I didn't know that Watford has so many blooming stations!

    Debbie x

  • Comment number 31.

Glad you went though Debs, and glad you enjoyed it!

Didn't see Lady Gaga, she didn't turn up for ours, just had Gary Go, who was Ok, but had to play through a storm, and could see we were all in self-preservation mode LOL

    JG x

  • Comment number 32.

Debbie, so glad you got there, and had a good time.

I quite like lady ga ga, although just got Seasick Steve from Amazon. Haven't listened to it yet. Am old.........

    xxxxxx

  • Comment number 33.

Hmm now I wasn't too sure about Gary Go to be honest.

I got quite emotional actually when they sang 'Shine'...after all the hassle that I had just getting there I was so pleased to hear it.

  • Comment number 34.

    JG, hanging in there.......

Debbie, hope you didn't get lost on the ring road......

  • Comment number 35.

Bondy, we got lost because we ended up at the wrong station. And it was all going so well!

  • Comment number 36.

I think we got distracted when he was playing! Great big storm, and trying to find our waterproofs!! But recognised a couple of tunes!

    JG x

  • Comment number 37.

evening all! am still on TT high from Friday too!! our support (as well as Gary go) was The Script - and they were fab!!! they seemed to really appreciate the crowd's reaction which was of mad applause for them! have been alternating TT and Script albums today - lovely!!

glad you made it Debs - thought you weren't going to last week!

and there was a guy in front of us who spent the whole evening just standing there with his arms folded, not moving at all!! i nearly went out and bought him a newspaper!! why would you go if you didn't want to be there? surely the lady with him had SOMEONE else she could have taken??!!

anyway, we didn't stop dancing all night!!

  • Comment number 38.

Mr Christoph, I salute you. Very, very well done to all involved in raising so much dosh for CiN. Glad a good time was had by all. You're one in a million.

Just arrived home, soaked, having watched gawjus 7 year old granddaughter play Miss Hannigan in local theatre group. Not biased of course, but she was brilliant!!

To Chris, Keith and anyone else giving their all in a good cause, blooming well done. I somehow got roped in to doing the Race for Life next week in Leicester, only really because Teen2 needed a consenting adult alongside her (unlike most of the time!).

However, as my dad died of cancer last year and one of my bezzie mates is in chemo after, fingers crossed, surviving breat cancer, I thought I'd give it a shot. I know there's a few peeps on here who've had close shaves one way or t'other so here's to you too.

Best wishes to all of you people who are loving their retirement - you deserve it, it sounds fab.
