One change - all change

Chris Evans | 09:02 UK time, Wednesday, 5 August 2009

Whilst continuing to edit the last chapter of my book this morning, I made the fatal error of...

...deciding to change the wrong paragraph three pages from the end.

It was the wrong paragraph to mess with because it had several elements in an order which, if altered, would change the sequence of all the events leading up to culmination of the story. After spending over half an hour on it I realised this, and then had to put it back to how it was before.

D'oh. D'oh. D'oh. D'oh. D'oh.

A large flask of tea was called for.

Nat, the lady in the picture from yesterday and my official editor stayed at ours last night so we could start work early this morning. It's not all pontificating and poetry this writing lark you know. The creative is nowt without the craft.

    Morning all!

Yes, I am in a wonderful mood today. I am wearing a dress that has been in the "too bloody tight" end of the wardrobe for about 3 years. Put it on this morning - perfick!! Even Lady Boss has commented how nice I look today - there's progress!

As for tweaking .... don't get me started! Mr Deev is playing this stupid game on the PS3 where you can create your own levels and upload them to the network for other gamers to play. He's obsessed by it. Totally and utterly driving me nuts. So much so, he almost ended up wearing his dinner last night!

Thank evans for my walking - tis keeping me sane!

Lovin' your work you gawjus bunch!

    Morning Everyone,

Chris, I agree with Tango if it aint broke etc etc. I suggest that perhaps now "You step away from the book"!!

AF and Beeze, I had every intention of putting a photo of my new hair do on FB, but they turned out hideous. It's not easy taking a photo of yourself at arms length, I either looked like a rabbit in the headlights or it was double chin central! Sorry. But it does look nice, even if I do say so myself.

I walked to work again this morning, taking a leaf out of Deevs book. It was a nice sunny day, but seems a bit cloudy now as long as it's not raining by the time I have to walk home.

    morning all, hope you're well?

Sounds like a mammoth task getting this book ready for us to read? Sure it'll all be worth it in the end though.
Horrible night at work, some people are just taken from this planet far too early. Wont bring the blog down with it but let's just say my children got an extra big hug this morning when they came vounding through. Toughest one ever in my service.

Sun's not shining here today, bloomin' muggy though, can't complain I suppose. Thanks to those of you still sponsoring me. Knee giving me some 'jip' this week but the training is going well. Had an offer on our house too, only been on the market for 18months!!!!! Hopefully we'll meet somewhere in the middle eh?

    Morning Christoph and bloggers

On numerous occasions I've attempted to change things around and they always end up how they started. Why is that?

Anyhoo, was feeling quite lonely without blog (apart from the plumber, yes there I've mentioned the 'p' word again), so glad it's back, the blog and the plumber!! Does anyone else feel like that when it's not here?

Debs - whenever work had social occasions, everyone stood around in their little clicks and no one mingled!! You always felt like an alien if you moved in on them!!

Warm and sunny darn sarf thus far!

Gingembre - hugs and huge admiration to you. You guys do such a great job and see such awful things which must affect you deeply. Things like this certainly put all our petty problems into perspective and make you take stock of what is important in life.

Hello all, just catching up from yesterday - so tired when I got home that I was asleep on the sofa for most of the evening!!

    So, from the last blog:

Steffi #10 - haha, no worries luv! Don't think I mentioned what dept I work in before, so you weren't being lax about keeping up! And it made me laugh, which was sorely needed at the time!!

A, glad your big day went so well, looking forward to seeing how beautiful you looked! Holiday destination sounds fabulous (am a teensy bit jealous hehe).

Re changing names - I'm all for it, but it's a b*gger when you need to change it back again ;-)

Bingo, gorillas and naked dutchmen. There's a part of my brain that's dying to know, and another which shies away...

JG, hope you're feeling better today xx

Deev, you need a separate tellybox for the PS3 luv!

    And from today:

Phew, Christophe, thank 'eavens for the 'Undo' button eh???

Deev, you is gawjus anyway, but glad you can get into the dress!

Debs, very cool, straighteners in the loos! Did you avail yourself? If only we'd had them here yesterday - I was a bit of a fright, hair-wise, after the walk to work!

AliB, you're so right, you need someone else to do it!

Gingembre, ((((((((big hugs )))))))). When's the run? Hope the knees stay up!

Right, lunchtime and I'm flippin' peckish :-)

    TTFN,
    AF xx

ps any (not too complicated) recipes for chicken breasts anyone? I tend to chop them up for stir fry, which I love, but I think I'll end up looking like a noodle soon...

pps Debs, if you've got nothing better to do, would appreciate some advice re work - see Christophe's "Alright now there's joking and there's..." blog #138. But only if want to :-)

    Yo.....

    Bingo Star ere,

Just a quick one mesen terdee az ave been wreeting abit more of my booook!!!!!

CLP - Sounds like putting the finishing touches ter the boook iz causing you wreet big 'assles!!!!!!
You obviously are a perfectionist who wants the boook ter be..... errrr perfect!!!!!!!
A now, sorry know, exactly were yer coming from on this important issue.... but the only advice a can offer iz.... well if yer working ter a deadline ter ge tit finish and printed ready for the autumn and the run upter Christmas which a pressume iz the 'ot time ter release a booook!!!!!
Ok maybe deadlines are gooood in some ways az it gives yer a kick up the jacksee ter in the words of Jono Walker.... "get a move on, get a move on!!!!" BUT..... and this BUTT, sorry BUT iz a very BIG one..... sometimes rushing izn't the way ter go.... NO!!!!!!!
By rusing it with a deadline.... yer can end up with dead lines in yer booook!!!!!!

My advice if the editors and printers can 'old and INDEED Chrsitmas.... leave yer book for a few weeks.... go away from it and then come back to it feeling fresh and loooose!!!!!! You've got nowt ter looooose - know what am sayin'!!!!!!!!!

Then yer can reread the situation and make the final finishing touches without driving yersen MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know, sorry now!

    'ope this 'elps!!!!!!!

PS Yer wreet above 'creative iz nowt without the craft!!!!!!'
Iz this a clue ter what the booook iz gonna be about?????
    Craft...... aka spacecraft!!!!!!!
Oh yes a can just picture it...... Steve Wright iz in fact an alien from outta space who arrives at R2 on a craft aka a spacecraft az a spy from radio Luxemburg that iz run by.... extra-terrestrial terrestrial radio broadcasters facing a trial trail..... yeah..... it's gonna be a cracker of a booook CLP man!!!!!!!

GOURANGA PAPERBACK WREETERS AND INDEED READERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS Ello ter SuperBagpuss, BridgetM, ChrissieS and anyone else from yesterdee's blog... a read yer posts and a very nice read they were/ are and a agree with everything you writted!!!!

  • Comment number 35.

PS CLP - No offence pal, but am noot keen on this new white blog!!!!
It's too white aka too clinical and bright!!!!!
Aka less personality being just plain old white!!!!!!

A much prefer the old blog style.... a thought it waz warmer and 'ad more personality - know what am sayin'!!!!!!

Suppose though the beeb computer dudes ave 'ad ter do a software upgrade ter intergrate the blog with the new web pages aka the reason for changing the style..... but any chance we can keep this new blog but with the old colours???????

    Chow!

PS The new webpages are brillo.... just the blog... too white!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 36.

Can't really say much publicly on fb to those of you that have left lovely messages. Being stalked and have to be careful of what I say!

The teen is 18 today, feel a bit emotional which is strange. Maybe I'm dwelling to much on his 'real' mum etc. So must stop that I guess.

Have felt really down since yesterday, having a bit of a setback and going to make a note of the things I've learned that should help.

And to top it all off, left the cheesecake that I was going to bring us in at home! *sigh*

Thanks guys. It's probably just that in our house 'step-son' is a formality. Things have always ticked along, I'm mum and that's that.

But today a few people that we hardly ever hear from have crept out of the wood work with messages of how they remember him at 1 hour old, him being brought home from hospital, 1st birthday party....so I feel a bit wierd and out of things. They all knew his 'real' mum too. I know that it doesn't make much sense, I'll get over it.

haven't been around for a while - crazy things happening. Haven't really had a chance to catch up properly, but caught the name changing thing. It took a lot of thinking about but I did take his name when we got married. I was concerned about losing something by changing my name, but now I've done it (and it's still weird being called Mrs married name almost a year later!) it's like I've changed my label to say I'm with him, which I kinda like! Although that said, half my stuff is still in my old name and I have to check the name on things before I sign for them so I know which signature to do!

Whadya know 5 mins later - restraunt manager on phone - 'we have found some linguine.....'

Little girl bump cooking nicely Penny. Due in about 7 weeks, can't wait to meet her.

(Hope they're right when they say it's a girl. If it's a boy, he's going to be awfully confused with all things pink).

    Hi all,

I haven't been around for a while, What has happened to the appearance of the blog?

We've finally had some sun here in Cornwall today which has been great for the kids to actually get outside without waterproofs and wellies!

Hope everyone on the blog is well, things are a bit mad around here (too much to go into on here) so between that and getting caught up on facebook (biggest time waster going!) I'm not managing to get over to the blog very much!

    Much love MCM

Dragons night tonight - hurrah!!! then Betty - hurrah hurrah!!

JG: Fingers crossed about d-i-l's job. Whilst her job has gone, they've asked her to fill in some form (there's a technical term for it, but I haven't a clue) to be matched to other possible jobs. She'll find out on her last day at work before going off on maternity leave. How horrible is that?

Hello, Hi, good evening and wotcha.

Apologies for absence and apologies for returning!!!

I'll keep it brief - which will be a refreshing change!

V.busy at the moment with projects in Eire, Glasgow, Berlin, London and Banbury......

Hi to all of you, no special mentions, as I will just miss someone...and I've missed you all, actually.

Ooops...one special mention to Margot who caught me out last week as I have been lurking, but mainly by phone (hence no input, life's too short!).

Margot, thank you...Not seen much of the wife and kids of late apart from our anniversary weekend (just me 'n' er), and with the kids being on holiday was starting to get a bit down....until your post reminded me of what I said in Brighton.
When I read it, I was in a lovely hotel in Bath with the CMM fast asleep beside me. We had just booked our holiday in two weeks time and I am going to spend the time between now and then in Ireland, Berlin and Glasow....so....on reflection...what have I got to be miserable about.

    Thanks x

    Love to you all

MC...5 weeks and counting I bet! Twas fab, around 35+ everyday, sunny, we did loads, as I luv driving in Espana and get figity after bout 30 mins of doin' nothing. Aren't you going somewhere south of Murcia, but north of Cartegena/La Manga if my memory serves me well?

    TBx

  • Comment number 99.

Hi Tango, we are going to Sucina , flying into Murcia . Hope its going to be good. Is that anywhere near to where you went ?

    MC x

  • Comment number 100.

No...your about 1 hr drive south of where we were Santa Pola...think you're close to Pilar de la Horadada which has a nice beach, think that's the closest one to Sucina....but north of that, stick to the coast and you have Campoamor, Cabo Roig and La Zenia beaches...the last of which is great, BUT can be rough and dangerous with young kids....I love Cabo Roig, only downside to it is the long walk down to the beach from the parking areas, then worse, the hike back, in 35 degrees...just take it slooooowww.
