Good Afternoon Chris and Bloggers, havent blogged for a while but felt I had to today on this monumental day. Well dont know about you but my morning routine has changed, turned on the radio at 7.00 and spent the next hour getting ready for work listening to Mr Evans and dancing around to the music. Love Moira that women has the most deliciously chocolate covered voice, she could read a shopping list out and it would sound wonderful.

Love the fact I can listening to the whole show now as I can listen in the car and when I get to work. Loved it Chris and Team keep up the good work.

I usually watch the telly first thing, but this morning I sat and ate my crunchy nuts listening to you . I turned you up a bit when i was in the shower, and even louder when i put the hair dryer on . Bet the whole of my street were listening to you by the time I left the house.

thought it was excellent Chris - as someone else said (sorry can't remember who or where) I liked it that some was familiar and enjoyed the new bits too - Moira was superb - a real laugh and just the honeyed voice you need at 7am!

Firstly, WELL DONE LAMBIE PIES!!! As posted by Nic on the previous blog, we listened to the start of the show together at 7am and yes, you nailed it Chris! The back-to-back Beatles was the perfick way to start your era of Breakfast.

Loved the "Wrong Gong" - I was awarding a Wrong Gong to the numpty lorry driver who managed to close the A14 at Catthorpe this morning - cheers for that! And please do send auld Saunders on a teccy course for mobile phone usage!


And indeed, I can concur that the weekend was amazing. Have seen my new home town, taken to a lovely pub for Sunday lunch, relaxed and laughed. A lot.

The drive to work this morning was a commute and then some: M6 Toll, M42, M40, M43, M45, A14, A134 and all in 5 and a half hours with one petrol/wee break!

Is it Friday yet?

Hi really enjoyed the show. music was great as was the presenting. just one complaint what was that awful quiz? The show is good enough without having silliness, any chance of moving it to around 9.00am so as i miss it when i get out of the car to drop my daughter at school? Good choice of first song.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with the comments above. I don't think it was a good show, in fact it was the was the same style as your drive time show. Just replace the words 'drive time' with the word 'breakfast'. What made Terry's show different was he didn't talk about sports or get 'famous' people who can blow up hot water bottles but simply read out listeners stories and comments. It was a nice simple way to start the day. Your show to me, sounds nearly the same as all the other commercial stations. All you need is the news to be sponsored by some corporate company and I would not be able to tell the difference.

Also may I ask what happened to Terry's Team? Have they all be laid off/moved to different departments?

I know my comments won't please a lot of people but I just wanted to say my bit, I for one miss Terry's show, it was different, which made it interesting.

I don't think you can fully judge whether it was a success or not one 1 show but I, for one, liked it. I like the mix of familiar and new features and the segment with Jonny and Moira worked well. The surprise guest was way too whacky and hyper...lol...looking forward to tomorrow.

Just thought that I would say how much I enjoyed your show this morning. It felt very familiar as I was an avid listener to the evening show. Having said that I also listeded to Tel in the mornings and was a great fan. I don't think there was anyone else who could have come near to replacing him but you have, not by trying to copy him but bringing your own unique style to the job.

I am a long-term Radio 2 listener despite only being in my 30's and loved both your drivetime show and Wake up to Wogan.
I have to say I was a little disappointed this morning - it was all just a bit much that early - too many excited people and lots of noisy jingles (help I'm sounding like my mother!) - a style that was more suited to drivetime. Maybe it was just the excitement of the first show, but I did find myself scanning the airwaves for a slightly calmer alternative to ease myself into the day a bit more gently (and that's a first in many, many years).
I also missed the gentle ramblings and giggles with Boggy, Deadly and Fran, although it was good to hear Moira Stuart again. Change must always come and whilst I do try to embrace it, I hope my comments are helpful.

Having listened to most of the show, I found the music choices often rather patronising and the rest of the show disappointing. Surely the largest radio audience in the country is entitled to expect more than the wholesale transfer of "features" from your Drivetime show? (Top Tenuous, Hit or Miss, Fox the Fox - albeit with Johnny Saunders - etc etc ad nauseam). Moira Stewart was good. But many of us were hoping for some intelligence and wit, not phone-ins from schoolkids. As for the end of the show, pointless and tedious choruses of Hellos from nonentities seeking a namecheck recalled the worst days of Seventies local radio. Please, at least spare us this final agony. If you'd listened more to Terry's shows, though laudably never intending to emulate him, you might at least have grasped that the whole point of getting text and email contributions from listeners is that you can whittle them down to the funny ones. Unlike phone-ins where we're all subjected to endless bores seeking a "mention".

I think the only bit I "didn't get" on the new show was the "Hello Goodbye" slot right at the end. A novelty today and tomorrow, but could possibly wear thin by the end of the month .....?

I agree about the awful quiz - what was that all about?

No - we do not want to hear people shouting their goodbyes or even shouting at all

Jonny does need to tone it down a bit....!

Do we have to keep being told that we are listening to Radio 2 at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ etc, etc? Please give us some credit that we know what we have tuned in to and that we are awake enough to realise it!

Why do we need a mystery guest like that? Who was he and what was all that about?!!

I missed it earlier because I've not been very well but I am here and listening again - I am so excited it's stupid!

I loved the choice of first record as I love the Beatles, so that was a fantastic start. I generally loved the content and certainly the music. BUT I absolutely hated all of the phone ins. It is my own personal gripe. I don't understand the need to know what some unknown person is wearing and I certainly thought the Guinness book of records man was barking and not in a nice way, unlike your singing deep sea divers.
I loved your interaction with Moira and can see a wonderful fun relationship building between you two and Lynn.

Loved, Loved, Loved the show Christophe! Well done. We loved listening to you on Drive Time but I'm thinking you're going to make it easier getting up at 7am with my 4 and 23 month old babies! Now you've got the first one out of the way, you can relax and enjoy it from now on!

I thought the first show was poor, very poor. It's just Drivetime moved to Breakfast, music was predictable, too many phone-ins, I just can't imagine who wants to hear stupid phone-ins first thing in the morning.

Chris, personal message: I thought you weren't going to talk over the music? Frank Sinatra was the first victim - just typical of your lack of respect for good music. I will never forgive you for ruining the Glenn Miller track you played Armistice week, appalling behaviour, you really should be ashamed of yourself.

Too shouty. Even the folk phoning in were being interrupted. It's as if Evans' questions are more important than the callers' answers. Clearly listeners do not come first in Evansville!

I will not be a regular listener.

Excellent first show Christoff. I think the nerves showed a bit, and am positive that things will settle down to give us consistently great entertainment.
I don't understand the "Its not Wogan, its Drivetime" comments. Of course its not Wogan, its Chris. Its different, not an imitation. Wogan was brilliant, but so is Christoff, just in a different way.
Moira was excellent, as was Jonny.
Shame about the mystery guest, he was a bit too lively for early morning.
Love the kids being involved.
All in all ....... excellent for a first show, and can only get better.

What has happened to the intellegent, warm and interesting radio 2 we were able to listen to up to the 18th December last between 7.30am and
9.30am? We don't like the new style, it is harsh and brash and the 'phone-ins are a definite "no no". If people like this kind of thing there are other radio stations to listen to, our radio 2 breakfast
programme is ruined.

Well done CLP - heard the first hour and twenty and it sounded really good, fresh and upbeat. Love hearing Moira on first thing, calming and efficient!

We'll be tuning in each morning for as much as we can (me, Mr Daisy and two Daisy boys!). Good job!

You can't please everyone all of the time but you will find your groove and we think you made a good start today..

I'm sure you must be enjoying the feedback you are getting today - even the people who didn't like the show have written interesting comments!

Personally, I loved the show. I was like an excited schoolgirl this morning, and I was grinning from ear to ear. I thought it was absolutely lovely that you and Johnny sounded a wee bit too loud, because you were both a wee bit nervous - that's got to be a good thing. Even the lovely Lynn sounded a little bit out of her depth, she was nervous too! It was all very exciting, and I think it is going to be great. Moira was wonderful, she always is. You could just tell she was having a terrific time.

However, there's too much content - I think you will know that when you listen to it. We don't need every single second to be tied up with "doing stuff". I think you will get really interesting and funny emails - I hope you will spend more time on them, and give us an idea of how you feel about the people contacting you, and what they are saying.

Chris, the first two records were inspired choices. Your interaction with the Reverend on Pause for Thought was just perfect. I really felt part of all of it.

Once things settle down a bit, it's going to be great, and we will all be there for you!

BTW: is it a wee bit crazy that I felt I was being unfaithful to Terry?! How about that good luck message he sent? The man is wonderful.

Don't listen to the "Daily Mail" lot on here, whining on about how you aren't Terry Wogan. There were always going to be people too stuck in their ways and unable to accept change, some of which clearly haven't even listened to the Drivetime show, so carry on doing what you do best - being you, being positive, fun and entertaining.

Can I just say there are a lot of us who used to listen to Chris and to Terry, who will miss Terry but are happy to hear Chris in the morning. Radio 2 is a big and varied family, there is a place for most of us

Seza - I'm with you - I have been listening to Terry before work/ Uni for 10 years and will miss him alot

I like Chris and although it will take a while for the show to shake down I'm not going to winge he is not Terry - I am not the person I replaced at the company I work for and thats because my bosses wanted someone different - that is what the ´óÏó´«Ã½ want!

So thanks to all the contructive critism but remember it is a free world and pleanty of other radio stations - I don't listen to alan carr on the radio becuase his voice irritates me, but I certainly wouldn't stop others listening to him or be nasty about it - its all personal taste!

I only heard until 9am so can't comment on the 'hello/goodbye' bit although doesn't sound too popular. Loved the rest and was very glad it hadn't moved too far away from the drivetime format. I think the mystery guest could be quite good if the right person is picked but this morning's bloke didn't have much of interest to say. Something along the lines of the usual drivetime guests would be good like the xmas pullover man/sleep experts etc.
Loved the first song and didn't think Jonny was too excitable at all so don't let it get to you chuck. Had a blast and long may it continue. By the way, I didn't get much sleep at all cos I couldn't stop wondering how well YOU were sleeping!! Take care and much love to you all. xx

Naturally enough Chris has lots of support on this blog, but I'm one of many who didn't enjoy his 1st breakfast show full of features & phone ins. Hopefully he'll take note of the constructive criticism here & elsewhere and calm the show right down. But if it continues as morning Drivetime I'll be switching off I'm afraid.

Set my alarm, tuned in at 6.45 and listened until 9.45. My thoughts for what they're worth -
1] Choice of music - OK for first show - 7/10
2] Moira - smooth as silk - 9/10
3] La Bowles - use her more - she's an ace banterer - 8/10
4] Jonny - "that sporty bloke"! - use him wisely - 5/10
5] The Rev - the most natural dialogue exchange in the whole 145 mins - 8/10
6] The Quiz - Wha ...? 0/10
7] The Mystery Interview - heads should roll :) 1/10
8] Top Tenuous - still Jonny's best bit - 8/10
9] Wrong Gong - best new feature by far - 9/10

The thing is - even the most experienced broadcaster/producer ain't gonna get it spot on first time off. With millions of listeners to please and the media press poised to leap on every perceived error, it takes a very brave man to sit in the breakfast chair.

Fair play to those with constructively critical thoughts about the show. I know CLP will take them all on board, he could hardly be accused of not doing that. But I'd like to add something.

All those years ago I had been greatly amused by CLP on the Big Breakfast, and so was delighted at the prospect of his appearance on Radio 1. But when I first heard that Breakfast Show, I hated it. I remember thinking he was actually trying too hard, and tuned out again. However. A while later I listened again, this time LOVING it, and the rest, for me, was history. He had found his feet and, though slightly re-invented, was back to the CLP we have since come to know and (most of us) love.

What was never going to happen was that CLP would try to emulate the National Treasure that is Wogan. Nobody could do that, indeed, no-one is more sorry about that than me; and God forbid that they should try. That way is doomed to fail. So he got stuck in, weeding out the more popular, or perhaps more appropriate, bits from Drive-Time.. rightly or wrongly. And Drive-Time, if my memory serves me correctly, was not well-received either, at first, following on from the popular Johnnie Walker. And thinking about it, neither was the Saturday show. But we all quickly grew into it, along with Christoff himself.

In fact, I'm going to fess up to something here. That first Saturday show, the gorgeous Minnie Evans had (I think) just turned 80; therefore CLP asked if there were any other octogenarians out there, call in. And so I set up Renee, then 81, and my lovely now dear-departed Aunty Dot, then 79, and called in. The result was that Dotty was mortified to be called 80 when she was, in fact, 79 (bless her!), but Renee stepped up to the plate and sang a full chorus of a Wartime Favourite song. Now, that first show was a little wobbly also, but Renee was delighted with herself and still remembers her Radio 2 debut, toe-curling as it was, and the said show settled into itself after that.

I also called into the first Drive-Time show, from over in Belfast, carried away with the general joy of hearing himself on air again. And was equally excrutiating. It was some daft spot or other and typically, I was hardly memorable (!) but hey, I was doin' me best. And again, the show was weeded out and tweaked a bit, and apart from one brief call into Womans' Minute and a couple on ARF, I haven't called in since. Thank the Lord. So I suppose what I'm saying, as one who has made a right twit of herself several times and is therefore consigned to the Room 101 that will be this first run-in, yes, there are aspects of the show which will need to be buffed up a bit, or even dumped in the recyclin' bin. But I know in my heart that CLP will pull it off magnificently. After all. He's done it so many times before, and in a couple cases, back from the brink.

As I said this morning. It's like steppin' into the brand-new Ferrari. All spankin' new, fast an' excitin', and you hit a couple kerbstones till yous get used to it, then it's FAB.. but you never forget your little aul first Mini, do you.

So, me.. I'm delighted and shall be stickin' with it. We all had orbit-high expectations, and once we're back down to earth we'll be all the better for the experience. After all. The only failure in life is failure to give things a go, or to support others who do.

Meanwhile, comfort can be taken from the fact that I shall (I hope) be safely dispatched across the Irish Sea from Thursday, and therefore out of calling-range, hahahaha!!

So for what it's worth, well done, Christoff Lambie Pie. From one of many loyal eejits.

It's like a new house thats just been built . The new foudations need time to settle and also the people living there need to settle in their new home and get used to it .

There will be cracks but they will soon get get smoothed over and hey before you know it ,it will be like an old shoe you dont want to part with .

Not a bad first show - I tend to agree with most of the other bloggers in that it did all seem a touch frenetic.

I'm sure it will settle down, and I know you'll want to take on board all of this feedback.

Don't forget everyone...give it time, and if you don't already love it, you almost certainly will.

It is interesting seeing some of the postings here today.
I would hazard a guess that there would have been negative postings even if they had managed to clone the great Sir T of Wogan but please let us be realistic.
Terry would be a hard act to follow for anyone and I for one believe Chris has made a brilliant first pass at the show. Like anything new, it will take time to smooth things out.
Keep it up Chris. Most of us think you are great.

There are so many great comments on here that I have decided to give my own tuppence worth :)

Over all I thought it was great, my fav comment from the Blog has to be from SuperSavvySoph -

I totally agree, I never thought I was bad at mornings but about 8.30 I had to turn the radio off as it was just a bit to much for me.

As I am sure we all know practice makes perfect and I am sure that CLP will find a good even balance between what came before and what will come after...

I am sure that everyone involved breathed a big sigh of relief come 9.31am and I am sure that with a bit of time the show will settle down into the big comfy sofa of Radio.

I will be sticking with it for the forseeable and I am confident enough of CLP to know that he will be reading this blog and taking on board the constructive comments - why wouldn't he?

I loved the first show and was relieved that some of the features of the drivetime show were carried over to the breakfast show. There is no need to reinvent the wheel for the sake of it. I loved the Johnny versus Moira news quiz! I didn't like the mystery guest section but it may be that it was that particular guest (are you sure it wasn't Justin Lee Collins - be honest it was wasn't it?)

I miss foxy & sally traffic but thought Lynne seemed an immediate part of the team.

I loved it and GMTV will no longer be on in our 'ouse from now on!

Hmm lots of interesting posts this afternoon, and you're right Annie, there's a different vibe to the blog, but then today is a momentous day in the life of Radio 2. I think everyone's entitled to their opinions, and of course you can't please everyone all of the time but trying to compare one show to Tel's 27 year "back catalogue" is maybe a tad unfair.

Hope everyone is having a great day, there's bit a big thaw here in Edinburgh and virtually no snow left now... it's really strange looking out and not seeing a carpet of white!

Was in Kirkcaldy today and there was no snow!! Apparently, as it's on the Forth, snow doesn't last long.

Car was dug out and pushed yesterday and is now on main road. And more bleedin' snow is forecast for tomorrow. Bums.
