Quick Bite And Then - The End

Chris Evans | 10:27 UK time, Tuesday, 30 March 2010

Stopped off for a proper bit of brekkie before finishing Book ll.

Today is the day.

5 p.m. is the deadline - any time after that, and this author will be toast !

One major insert to put in, and a bit of tidying...and then one very large pint of celebratory beer will be downed - perhaps even two - but no more, as we are rowing on the Thames tomorrow with Sir Matthew P. for Sporting Challenge Number 11.

So what did you do for the first time today ? Finished my second book !

What to write next ?

Good Morning Cristophe and all bloggers.

T he first thing I did this fine morning was take my medication, make cup of tea and feed two cats plus stray.

Hope book 11 is as good as book 1 CLP. I would write my autobiography but who would believe it? I can hardly believe it myself.

    Hope everybody well.

    Chris,

Surely you must have read more than 2 books?
Looking forward to Part II of yours though - reading Tickling the English by Dara O'Whathisfacethaticantspellorpronounce at the moment - highly recommend it.
What have I done for the first time today? Well, I got up early and went swimming, leaving Deevs waving me off (she got up to make my butties - one in a million...)
    Happy Tuesday!

Does anyone know if Crumpy's fail safe batter mix would work as a coating batter if a little extra flour was added? Have perfected the yorkies but want to do a nice bit of fish on Friday

  • Comment number 10.

    Morning Chris, morning all,

Looking forward to reading your next tome, Chris. Well done you for being so focussed and dedicated in getting the book written. Must have been very hard to shut yourself away with the maelstrom going on around you this past year!

Tiggs, we had home made fish and chips on Friday, Mr Mcw says that it tasted better than the fish shop offerings. Bless him! The batter mix I use is a Delia one and can thoroughly recommend it:
    4oz self raising flour (110g)
    half tsp salt
5fl oz water(150ml), plus scant tablespoon

Sift flour and salt in mixing bowl, gradually add water, whisking until batter is smooth and free from lumps.
I have found that using sparkling water makes the batter even lighter.

    Mcw x

  • Comment number 11.

    McW
That's more like a tempura batter and would be better for us than using an egg one, might give that one a try, ta very much! Might have to deep fry something today to try it out, hmmmmm, banana fritters......Bad Tiggs!

Hi Chris: How fantastic that you will finish the book today - I can't wait to read it, I have a feeling this one is going to be a wee bit emotional! Enjoy your beers, you deserve them.

And, how funny was it this morning with Jonny on head to headlines?! Everything about the show just makes the audience feel totally included - it's wonderful. xx

    Bingo #6,
For the same reason that quite a few "fit" people park in the disabled spaces in my local leisure centre and run across the service road to play squash and 5 a side. Walking 50 yards from the other parking is too much for them.
It really gets me mad. Lazy ***s!

The Fitness Centre I go to has a space right near the door for single ladies to park at night only. It's monitored by the staff, people know this, so don't try and get away with it. Like most things in life, it's not the rules which are the problem, only the application of them.

Bingo, It took them a while to catch up with you today. Have you been saying naughty things?

  • Comment number 18.

    Hello Everybody Peeps,

CLP - what an achievement - well done - you deserve your beer tonight - enjoy.

Tiggs - just a wee bit of a brainwave which occurred to me this morning whilst in the shower (where I do my best thinking) - I know it's a wee bit away but what about us having an Oksoberfest whilst the others enjoy an Oktoberfest. That could be fun. At work at the mo, and v busy but just had to pop on with this one.

Miss P - sorry I missed you out last night. I hope your shoulder has defrosted now and that you're happy with the new hair-do.

    Rightio, back to the grindstone.

    Cheerio for now.

Afternoon Tiggs. I would just use the normal yorkshire pud mix but make sure it isn't too thick. Love pineapple fritters myself but never made them at home - all this talk of food - maybe it's lunchtime?

    And for todays nature watch...

The horse in the field in front of my house is being plucked by a bunch of pesky crows and she's letting them!

They are all flying off with beaks full of horsehair, no doubt to line their nests with.

My poor old wabbit Dylan is still losing hand fulls of fur due to his moult. I dont think I would leave him at the mercy of the crows though!

What a change in the weather, I drove through snow earlier this morning as I was going over Exmoor. I think it is just heavy rain now.

The weather reports in Scotland aren't so good though, so take care all of you up there.xx

Great news MC, glad their persitance paid off, now looking forward to finding out tomorrow.

Well as I was so cold when I got back from the first of two runs today, have indulged in a slice of caramelised plum puff and a cup of coffee, which I only drink about once a year, but it has done the trick and I feel a lot warmer now.

Anyone doing anything nice over Easter?

Back again - taking my lunchbreak now.

MTF, Schools break up here on Thursday. My younger boy and I are off up north to my Mum's on Saturday. Bless her she doesn't keep very well these days so it'll be good to see her and see for myself how she's doing. My elder boy is off skiing on Friday for a week then has revision classes at school the following week. I must say I'm looking forward to the break, even if it means a 600 mile round trip on the A1.

    What have you got planned?

  • Comment number 24.

    Hi MTF,

We had toyed with the idea of breaking out our tent for the first time over the easter weekend, however, since we are now about 8" deep in snow I don't think we'll bother!

    Afternoon All,

Cant believe the snow is back in some areas, I hope the people affected are ok .

Grizzly drizzly day here, am hoping the leaves will soon appear on the trees. We have a magpie nest just outside our office window, and they have been building and flying back and forth all morning.

    Otherwise not much else occurin'.

    MTF, thanks and yes !

    Hope everyone else is OK.

  • Comment number 26.

    Busy time for you GailyB.

As I drive 1,000 miles a week, I am hoping to hang up the car keys and get stuck into the garden. It makes me ache all over but the overall satisfaction outweighs the pain!

Dozy, yes have been hearing the travel reports for you.

I think the only option for camping is a long old trek sarf, but even here isnt promising. Plus you have to be able to get out from where you are. I bet mr Dozy thought that the snow ploughing was possibly over.

Right have just had a phone call from my boss, second run is ready, so off I go to deliver one or two more smiles.

Have a good day everyone. Might pop back later.

Not been around much, as had a long weekend and then spent yesterday trying to catch up, both on work and blog!

Bingo - glad too see you're feeling cared for by the mods and glad the new lady situation seems to be going well. (I wonder if its all the punctuation in your postings that trigger more warnings from the mods?)

CLP - you have shown great discipline with the book and you definitely deserve a beer or two when its put to bed.

Hope all the glasgow crew have now recovered, pics on fb look like you had a cracking time.

Hope the snow itsn't to bad for the northern contingent either.

    Hiya troops!

Bingo, if Sally Traffic is busy, I'll gladly tell you what I think of the M6 - how long do you have to spare!?!?! I'm actually getting an affection for the A14 and M25, now having encountered the glorious M6 (J11 - J1 section, inc roadworks and heavy rain spray - huzzah!). I did however conquer Spag Junc yesterdeeeeeee . double huzzah!

So what did I do for the first time today? Errrrm ..... ahhhhh, hmmmmm well nowt yet but going to attempt to get a job this afternoon in the Midlands. That will definitely be a First!

Then apres interview, tired and weary, I'm heading to a supermarcardo to invest in some beer for imbibement this evening whilst watching the Champions League with The Love of My Life (that's Nic, not Russell Brand, btw!)

Hokery cokery. Let's go get a job.

    Hello again bloggers.

Most annoyed with afternoon post today. I've received offers of electric beds, riser recliner chairs, stairlifts and a catalogue of special socks. Bed socks, DVT socks and even waterproof socks, what are they for? Even worse, they've used my favourite shoes to advertise a special foot gel. They are not my favourite shoes any more.

Must go now, I need to listen to Steve to make me feel young again.

Whilst I agree in principle with your suggestion, the Oktoberfest is actually not in October but in September (I know, it's bizarre but it's true, so there! lol), so you need to be very specific on the dates on which this would start and end.

    Hiya Troops:

MTF #22: thank you for thinking of us poor Scottish bloggers who have snow. This morning was dreadful and my heart was in my mouth while we were driving into town. Ooooh, I hate the stuff!

CSN: glad to hear both your daughters are ok and taking it easy. I can well understand that you just want the babies to be born and then you can breathe again!

Mariella: I was sorry to read your post - hope you are ok.

Bingo: I did see you saying that you will be in Glasgow on 20th April - do you fancy meeting up for a wee bite of lunch? Or, dare I say it - a drink after work?!

Just a few words about the blog meet on Saturday - it was a fantastic day. What a really great crowd of people - we just laughed all day, it was lovely. I have to say that Mary's organisational skills are brilliant - I doubt that we had to walk more than 30 steps between venues!

Jovial: what a fabulous singer you are - quite brilliant!

Annie: sorry I didn't get to see you on Sunday - I hope you all had a great time. My brother-in-law's birthday lunch ran on a bit ... until about 7pm! Hope you had a lovely birthday - how was the party?

CLP: if you get to read this, thank you so much for this blog. Not only do we get to share a huge part of your life through it, but I have met some really terrific people that I would have had no chance of meeting, if not for you!

    Hope everyone else is ok.

    Afternoon Chris et al,

Hopefully by now the book is done and we can all wait for the wheels of publishing to grind into action and get it on the shelves asap! Well done Chris.

Thanks for the positive response about going to the pictures on my own, it's encouraging to know that other people have done it, and I will defo do it again. As for the film Aunty Sandy (previous blog) it was a good film, made you feel warm inside and full of admiration for the family who took the boy in. As Sandra said in her acceptance speech it was "for all the mothers who look after the babies and children no matter where they come from" and I say "amen" to that. Sometimes it's nurture over nature.

For the first time today I am drinking nothing by hot water and lemon! Although I nearly forgot when I went to sort out an employee crisis, they offered me a coffee and I almost said yes...eek. I am sure I will feel cleansed by the end of it.

Hope everyone is well and if not then have a hug {{{}}} Special hugs to Mw'a, Deev, csn, MissP xx

#39 Scoobs, is that the wee chip shop opposite that funny wee crossing bit - do you know where I mean or is that a bit vague? The gorgeous boys and I went to Pleasure Island last summer with some friends and got some food there. Mmmm yum. Had been a few years previous when elder boy was a toddler. One of my friends bought a house near Grimsby and whilst the new house was being built they rented the flat above the chip shop. We had a day with them and had lunch in the chip shop (the wee restauranty bit at the back). Fabby. Oh dear, the omelette and chips I had planned for tea don't look so appetising now! :(

Rightio I'm out of here. Loads to do before I go running tonight.

    Hello all

JG - yes I am still temping but feel "in limbo", not knowing if they want me full time permanent, or indeed if I want them. Its hard being a temp as you can't get "stuck in" per se. Lots of thinking to do I think!

On the plus side, this afternoon's interview went really well. As well as talking about the job we discussed music, gigs, rude t-shirts, tattoos, football, bike racing ........ so once again, fingers crossed. And the M6 homeward bound was a doddle. Result!

Also rang the agency about yesterday's interview but they hadn't spoken to the client as of 4.15pm today. So not discounting that one yet either.

So, this evening. The fridge is full of beer, Champions League on in a bit and Nic due back from seeing his mini-doppelganger in about an hour.

Hope you're all dandy, and I echo Chrissie (#38) in thanking CLP for this blog and meeting so many amazing people in yous lot!

Thanks for all the kind words re the job stuff - I'll get there eventually.

    Gingembre

I had all sorts of fin and games with DVLA when I moved here. I filled in the back of my old pink license, sent it off as stated then they sent it back to me as I'd not included a photo.

    That's because I didn't realise I needed to send a photo!

So sent photo (the same one as on my passport) and they sent it back to me. I queried it. They told me it's in black and white which is no good for a driving license.

Ugh! It's good enough for the bloomin' passport office, why not the DVLA!?!?!

Went to photography shop in town. Spent a small fortune (well, £7) on new colour photo. Sent it.

Eventually got new plastic photo license back.

    What a palava!

Good to see you btw. And your CiN choc gift is currently getting me through the days at my temping job!

So bad in fact that I had to drive with both hands on the steering wheel, totally unheard of!

Lets hope it is only short lived and we have some better weather for the bank holiday.

    Evening gang,

Well after a great weekend, had a pretty subbish start to the week as my post widom tooth mouth flared up and started REALLY hurting, so off I had to trot back to the dental surgery to get it checked out. It's still sore but getting better. Then today had been the most god awful day weatherwise here in the 'burgh. No snow thank god, just a steady battering of rain and wind since first thing. I thought spring was on it's way but not just yet...

Thanks for the heads up re driving licences Gingembre. I passed my test on St Andrew's Day 2006 so mine still has a few years left. It's a pity really as the photo makes me look like a clown! My passport photo makes me look like a convict though, and that's got even longer to go until it needs renewing.

Hope you've all had a good day

MTF/Rosie: Can't believe we were sunning ourselves outside the hotel on Sunday. Well, Beez, Jovial and I were really having a wee puff - but we were enjoying the sunshine too.

You never did explain the meaning of your comment to me last night.

More pertinently, however, as I assume it was an insult is why you posted it at all when my comment was in response to somebody else who was in turn commenting on yet another poster.

  • Comment number 73.

Yeah Beez and Jovial give us back our decent weather please!!!

So I know I have already posted todays nature watch but...

For those non mayo listeners, I saw without any doubt whatsoever, the first swallow today.

For those that want to add, one swallow doesn't a summer make, forget it. Because when I came down the Bleadon Hill, there were several more up there too.

The other "Spring thing" that made me leap out of my car involved irresistable sticky brown things!

I love Spring. Like Chris said this morning, its a transitional thing.

All good things from here on in.

  • Comment number 91.

I like spring too - when there's sun and warm breezes! not when its howling a gale and chucking it down like it is now!! the daffs are well and truly out all over the place here and that's fab!!

so then its into summer - beach, beach, beach!!

MTF - irresistable sticky brown things - toffee? chocolate buttons??!!

    Well done MTF!

Well. I've managed to get something in my eye what won't come out!

Also Mr JG's team have lost, and it would have been his Dad's birthday today, and he didn't get chance to speak to his Mum...

So, all in all, I'm going to shut this down...

    Night all

Good guesses CG, obviously the only natural thing you mentioned , were cowpats and NO, not right!

Mind you, they make good frisbees, when dried.

    i know - natural, brown and sticky - i know i know - A STICK!!
