Hot Potato - Heated Debate; Where's Caroline Aherne (aka Mrs Merton) When You Need Her ?

Chris Evans | 11:10 UK time, Thursday, 15 April 2010

What do we think about the leaders debate due to air tonight ? I am so worried they are going to "safe" both the fun and the value out of it all. Please don't !

The viewing figures will tell us all we need to know. It's not all about how many people tune in though. Rather, it's all about how many people stay with the programme.

I predict the ´óÏó´«Ã½ show will win the most viewers overall, with Sky's Adam Boulton ranking up there with Dimbleby (David) as best hosts. Alistair Stewart is a strange choice for ITV, I think. As I said this morning, Sir Trevor McD must be spitting feathers.

I hope the leaders realise it's not what they say we'll be taking note of, but how they say it. Do they mean it ? Do they believe it ? Or are they simply saying it to get their hands on the keys to Number 10? Not that Number 10 has any keys, but that's another story.

Alright - 8.30pm ITV it is then.

See u there.

X.

Greetings Ter CLP & Every Individual Blogger Individually......

Bingo Star ere..... Feeling deceptive from the outside but VERY much bigger on the inside (noot that am being egotistical)...

CLP - A find they way the poliicians are being so nice suddenly after all the expenses corruption & the mess Blair/ Brown let our country get inter.... makes me wanter vomit!!!!!!!!!!
A wish the Liberal Dems would ge tin for a change.... but would they change things or just be the same az the rest!!!!!!!!
The one sad thing about the Lib Dems, they are the ones who 'ave done so much damage ter this country by distorting the electorate!!!!!!!
All the ex labour voters vote Lib & ex Tory voters vote Lib... thus this iz the reason a thinkl why Thatcher 'ad such a long run & now Labour!!!!!
There's never a strong swing ter the left or right!!!!!!!!
Either way... am ashamed for voting Labour eight years ago.... and 'ope anyone but them get in again!!!!!!

PS Caroline Aherene - Capricorn 100% TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's noot being cut up by NUTTERS.... az it makes me realise my driving iz far superior ter theirs.... Iz it traffic jams yer may ask!!!!! Nah again... this gives me the excuse ter contact the motorists radio friend Sally Boazy & communicate with a top celeb!!!!!!!
Iz it being stationary in a traffic jam... nah az this iz VERY useful for abitta extra overteem if yer truckin'.... and for making a cuppa tea & admiring the view!!!!!!
What makes me VERY ANGRY on motorways iz why iz it... when the country iz alledgedly short of money & our road tax & fuel prices keep going up.... do yer see aloada council NUTTERS planting trees & shrubs in a most 'frrrrrivolous' (soz Giles Brandeth moment there) manner up & down the DAMN IT embankment of the motorway!!!!!! Iz it ter 'elp save the world & make our enviromentation.... beautiful?????
A think the cars 'n trucks passing the DAMN IT shrubs 24/7 are pumping out far more Co2 than the shrubs will ever absorb!!!!!!!
And ave yer ever visited yer local garden centre & seen the cost of one shhhhrub???? AYE????? A??????? A?@? Yer talkin' 15 quidda kidda just for a bargain basement bush & a ain't kidding!!!!!!
And on toppa that they wrap plastic protectors around the damn newly planted tress 'n shrubs ter stop wildlife eating them!!!!!!
If they didn't DAMN IT plant 'em they wouldn't need ter protect 'em!!!!!!!!
BUT.... the thing that really makes me ANGER double az bad..... double az bad..... the thing that makes me struggle ter keep me rig going in a straight line....... eight & a DAMN IT quarter miles further up the motorway............. their choppin' down the fully grown trees 'n shrubs & turning them inter small chippings via a wood chipper machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!@!@!@@!@!@!@!@!!!!!!!!!!!!@! NYAHHHHH!!!!! NNNYYYYAAAAA!!!!!@!!@!!@!@!@!!!!!!!

    World's gone/ iz mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Chris: nothing would entice me to watch the debate tonight. I couldn't watch it for a moment - the leaders of the main parties are so insincere, and I don't believe a single word that somes out of their mouths, unfortunately. I will vote though - the fight that was fought to get women the vote was just so horrendous that I would feel guilty if I didn't vote. But, tonight, I think the bathroom is going to get a jolly good clean!

How I miss Mrs Merton. "So tell me Debbie McGee, what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?"

I'll be out tonight but will record the debate. I agree with you though Chris, it's the sort of thing that you have to watch live. I bet they're all quaking in their highly polished shoes. Rather them than me. It's not so much answering the questions, they don't bother with that nonsense, it's the scrutiny of the body language, the amount of perspiration and so on. Just imagine - one of them unthinkingly mops his brow or has something up his nose and it loses him the whole election. Crikey.

Love to you all - hoping to make it on Saturday for a pint of scrumpy.

Chris, I shall be watching tonight, although I might struggle to not switch channels and watch Grey's Anatomy and the georgeous Patrick Dempsey; it depends how exciting the debate is!

I agree with Chrissie #15 I couldn't not vote. Although I am still not quite sure who to vote for but am carefully considering it and promise not to vote for the best looking one...LOL, which is what I told someone on the phone a few years back when they asked which party I would vote for.

Whether we watch it or not this TV debate has certainly given us all something to talk about! Would like to watch it but not sure it will hold my interest long enough and fear I may get irate and angry at 3 grown men refusing to answer specific questions! I heard on the radio this morning that they have all been rehearsing for their debuts tonight - do they already know the questions that will be asked???!!

MTF - bet the hair cut looks lovely.
CSN - from prev blog, good to hear daughter and grandaughter both safely home.
Ali - Dr McDreamy, yummy!! He is gawjus!

    Chris

I really can't see the point of these debates.

It's not as if they will be asked any searching questions.

It seems that we are just copying the Americans. The difference is that unless you live in their constituency then you are not voting for Brown or Cameron and even if their parties win the election they are not guaranteed to be PM.

Let's get away from this personality based politics and concentrate on the issues at local, national and international level.

I totally agree that everyone should vote, over the years too many people have made huge sacrifices so that we can live in a democracy. Abstaining is not a protest, so if none of the candidates appeal to you then just spoil your ballot paper, at least it shows you care.

    Evening all

I'll be watching it tonight, although I suspect I won't be watching future ones as rehearsed answers to preset questions by three fellas wearing more make-up in one evening than I wear in a year is not my bag!

That said, irrespective of your own personal political position - you're all talking a lot of sense in the comments you've made above. I agree, too many sacrifices made to NOT vote but, for me personally, no one party currently stands out as the one I want to give my vote to. It shouldn't be about looks, personality, or anything else. It should be about who can best do the job. I worry that with all the newspaper sensationalism the parties lose sight of this. I don't care what they're wearing, where they shop, or anything else. They're nothing special - they all p in the pot like the rest of us.

It should be about KISS and not the baby type. They need to Keep It Short and Simple. What can they do for us, what can they do for the country and most importantly how are they going to do it. I could be a size zero, I could be a millionaire but I couldn't tell you how I could achieve either because it's all talk on my part.

It's about time they showed us, the public, some respect, started listening to us and put our needs first and got on with it. Isn't that what Public Service is all about?

None of you are getting pressies from Lewis, Harris and Barra, ok?

Had a bit of a trauma on the way home a little old lady fell down right in front of me, tripped on the pavement, it was very nasty. Didn't know what to do first! Blood was pouring from her nose, I helped her up, grappled in my handbag for some tissues held them on her nose, called an ambulance, thank goodness some other people stopped to help. Thank God for the Ambulance service xx saw her safely off to hospital, but I keep wondering if she is OK. She was talking throughout the whole ordeal, but she lost a lot of blood. Her names Joan and the ironic thing was she fell just outside a hospital(not an A&E one) as she was going to visit a friend in there. Bless her.

Beez, just had a look at the forecast for Stornoway and it's light rain on Monday - no mention of snow thank goodness. I will, of course, keep you updated while I'm away.

Oh dear Ali. Are you okay? Being part of something like that can be very upsetting after the event. (((Ali)))

Right folks - I am organising two blog meets:

    Leeds - Saturday 26 June 2010

York - Saturday 30 October 2010 (I should have my exam result by then and if it's a 'Man from Del Monte (other brands available) he says Yes!' then there could well be a round on me!!!)

I have asked for expressions of interest on the CLP Bloggers page on FB. If you're not a FB user (and definitely don't want to be) but would like to come along to the meet then shout up and I'll make sure I put details on here when they're known.

    Annie - noted, thanks.

Right I'm off now. DS made a baked strawberry cheesecake yesterday and it's been 'setting' in the fridge ever since. Off to help decorate and then demolish it. I know, I lost 3lb last week and at this rate I'll be lucky to keep it off!

    Until later....!!

Thanks Pip and Annie, I'm fine but it is times like this you wish you didn't live on your own, I could do with a real hug as well as a virtual one.

Right quick shower and then ITV1.

Big hug Ali. Mr B did the same not long ago and was so upset with poor old lady forgot the door was open on the car. Saw her fall as he was getting in. Dog a good samaritan too - shot out of the car and went straight to the poor lady and gave her a lick! ((()))
