Secret Squirrel Sporting Challenge

Chris Evans | 10:26 UK time, Wednesday, 2 June 2010

So Jonny and myself are off to Bournemouth to scare the holiday makers with our excess of pale skin which will be on show from midday.

I played volleyball once and all I can remember is the excruciating pain in my forearms, after my severe lack of muscular padding resulted in direct bone striking by the deceivingly innocent looking volleyball.

Still there are many potential upsides to today: for a start there's the girls and their get ups; then there's the fact we are by the seaside; then I'm thinkin' fish and chips and a cold drink; then I'm thinkin' a nice peaceful drive back and a bit of The Big Show...and then I'm thinkin' an ice cold mid-week beer down the local.

Sounds alright dunnit?

Peace and Love and grab a bit of sunshine today if you can.

LOL

Oh no. No LOL, please, Chris! x

Just as well that the sun is shining today. Would have been a totally different prospect yesterday with all that rain, though am sure the fish and chips will be yummy whatever the weather!

Hi Chris: I have to say, when I read your blog, the reply that came to my mind is absolutely identical to Gail's at #2!

    Have a really great day.

  • Comment number 8.

Sunshine? Where? Really? Not here in Cannockshire, that's for sure.

Have a fantabulous day Chris and Jonny - do your utmost to focus on the matter in hand, as opposed to the get up of the laydeeeees!

Have to ask tho .... if the laydeeeeees are wearing "traditional" beach volleyball kit (or lack of) does this mean you and Jonny will be doing it in your Speedos!?!?!

The demand for the video come Friday morning may well bring the entire ´óÏó´«Ã½ www down!!!

    Hi all

Do you know what - I cba to do much today, luckily there isn't a lot for me to do....

clp - I thought you couldn't say where you were going... Have fun anyway.

Chrissie and Daisy, glad the mini meet went well yesterday. It's a shame I don't live closer, unfortunately Glasgow is a bit far to nip to for lunch......

    Oh - nearly lunch time....

The sun is shining today - after yesterday where it didn't stop raining til about 5pm and then it started again about 5:05 lol.

How are you all today? I am having a pants day and may stage a prison break lol. Who wants to join me?

  • Comment number 11.

    Hello CLP and All.

    Happy Birthday Highland Lass!

Now that you've announced that CLP I'm sure Bournemouth will be crowded with folk wanting to watch such superstars playing in the sand.
I've never played volleyball myself, merely messed about with a beach ball, but I was good.

    Hope everyone's well.

    MK x

  • Comment number 12.

Sounds like a good plan Hannah. where to?

  • Comment number 13.

@MTD - i don't know - do you reckon the sun is shining in Brighton? We could go to the seaside for the rest of the day. Then again we'd still get mobile signal so maybe up a mountain might be better hehe (you know the back end of beyond)

  • Comment number 14.

@MTD then again mobile signal would be good because we could sit and give a running commentary to the CLP Bloggers while we had our adventure

  • Comment number 15.

Hannah - Of course there is always the current attractions in Bournmouth....

  • Comment number 16.

MTD - of course! how could I miss that lol

    Happy Birthday Susan.

    Hi

volleyball - well when me and Mr bp first lived together he used to play every weds night with his dad and some other men of a certain age. As I didn't (don't) like being left alone I tried to go along with him but it was a waste of time and I really am not that good - so bad in fcat that Mr bp snr got quite cross with me, and he is a scary fellow.

back to sandwiches - it was only after reading all the comments last night and this morning that I reminded myself that I used to work in a sandwich shop at the tender age of 14 - not very happy memories but I do know that hot sandwiches are cut into rectangles and cold sandwiches into triangles

    Baggy,

Any particular reason for the sarnie cut? or is just the way it is?

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 22.

    Afternoon,

CLP, have a great time , sounds like fun will be had.

Not as much fun as we are having here though, who can beat being stuck in the office, the sun shining, and a posse of auditors camped on the corner of your desk ?
Am not complaining though, i know where the jaffa cakes are hidden !

Deevs, glad you are fixed up with a job. ;-)

    MC xx

  • Comment number 23.

Plenty of attractions in Bournemouth. Sunglasses, best creation known to man, created by a man, for men on the beach that don't want to get caught!! ;-)

  • Comment number 24.

    #23 LOL

  • Comment number 25.

Steve - no idea - I just did my job - and very badly as it was the first and only job I was asked to leave and not come back!

  • Comment number 26.

    Afternoon peeps
The sun is most definitely shining here in North Wales.
Being the domestic goddess that I am ..... stop laughing at the back!, I am delighted that all the pillow cases, duvet and sheets are drying lovely!

Been to the garden centre and have some more stuff to plant once I have collected Adam from work in about half an hour.

    Back later, lovelies.
    ttfn, Crumpy xx

  • Comment number 27.

Baggy - I didn't know there were protocols to sandwich cutting. There is more to the humble sarnie than I thought! When I was little, my Mum used to cut my sandwiches with a pastry cutter so I would have rounds and stars etc. Probably a total waste of bread but I when I feel glum, I still make myself a "pretty" sandwich!

My office is a sauna - the fan is just blowing hot air around. The beach in Bournemouth sounds tempting and trains go straight there from Guildford ( I think). Hmmmm - may join the prison break!

    Miss P

  • Comment number 28.

    Miss P

This is just between you and me, since we got together and everytime he makes me toast for breakfast - Mr bp colours my toast using different jams etc and makes me pictures or jenga toast or something interesting!

Now you know why I married him :-)

  • Comment number 29.

is it safe to open me eyes now?

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 30.

Deevs: probably have been tweeting too much but on the other hand one of the other forums I go on highlights the name if you put @ and then the username lol. I do it out of habit - issues!

  • Comment number 31.

MissP: My dad used to do that - he'd cut the jam sandwiches into squares and then into triangles (so technically i had 8 tiny sandwiches)

I was at mum and Dads on Saturday and he'd made sausage sandwiches and he'd cut his mum's and CJ's straight then mine was cut diagonally but so I had two funky shaped sandwiches lol.

  • Comment number 32.

    Hello again.

When I was little my dad used to make himself a raw onion sandwich.
I used to sit and watch him fascinated wondering how he did this.

    (whispers) Baggy, I won't tell a soul!!

We all know why you married him - he is lovely and loves you (quite rightly!)

  • Comment number 34.

Marjie, did it make him cry.

  • Comment number 35.

No CSN but it made me cry if I sat too near!

    MK xxx

PS This sandwich topic is very popular LOL

  • Comment number 36.

my dear departed grandad ate banana and sugar sandwiches

My dad (at the tender age of 50) still eats hot milk/bread and sugar for breakfast - yuck!

  • Comment number 37.

    Of course you can, CSN!

The sandwich talk is having a positive impact on my figure! I felt so sated with sarnies, I had salad for lunch! (A very sibilant sentence that!)

  • Comment number 38.

    Baggy,

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not had THAT for YEARS i just hope it's still as nice as i think it was back when i had it.

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 39.

Mr P and I were talking about banana sandwiches at the weekend - how strange! Only good when freshly made.

My Dad's fave was buttered white bread with condensed milk poured over it - double yuck! Must admit, I quite like bread & milk - my nana used to make it for me.

  • Comment number 40.

Miss p - my nanna used to make it for my dad (she being his mum) and so he made it for us - but we said no!! I do love hot weetabix (other wheat biscuits are avaible but rubbish) though so not all wasted.

  • Comment number 41.

    Baggy & Steve.

You've just reminded me of a very distant childhood memory, to do with food rationing.

    We called it pobs.

    MK x

  • Comment number 42.

Triple yuck to the hot weetabix (other wheat cereals etc etc...)! Just flavourless mush - pah!

My Mum has weetabix (other wheat etc..) with hot skimmed milk every morning. When she comes to stay with us, my biggest cat sits staring at Mum until she finishes and then proceeds to lick the bowl clean. Ergo, hot weetabix must be a Puss thing!!

  • Comment number 43.

    What's pobs MK?

  • Comment number 44.

    MissP

Pobs is hot milk poured over pieces of bread and sprinkled with sugar.

I agree about the hot milk on cereal, yuk, must be ice cool from the fridge for me.

    MK x

  • Comment number 45.

hot milk doesnt work on cereal - just weetabix (sorry again)

pobs - that sounds like what my dad and nanna had - she was orginally from lancashire - maybe thats the clue?

  • Comment number 46.

Baggy, I love hot milk on weetabix.

    csn. xx

  • Comment number 47.

ice cold milk on weedybrix is just lush (so is mixing it with bran flakes and cornflakes *ANY make will do even value/basics/smart price versions*)

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 48.

don't get me wrong - i love ice cold milk on cereal as much as the next blogger - but sometimes its nice to have it hot on weetabix and I have a winter love affair with porridge.

    CSN - thanks for understanding.

  • Comment number 49.

    Gosh I'm shattered

Sorry can't do anything other than ice cold milk on any cereal. Have a particularly lovely granola at the moment with cranberries and blueberries and it makes the milk purple - I know little things!

    Warm and sunny here hooray.

    Hope everyone is well?

    Sus x

  • Comment number 50.

Ah, now porridge - that is a different matter! Brown sugar or golden syrup?

  • Comment number 51.

what is it with this poncifying of food? whats wrong with just plain good honest food? if i wanted cranberries i'd drink cocktails . . if i wanted blueberries i'd have muffins :-D

we have a Plain language society . . . . why can't we have a plain food one as well?

    Steve :-D

    PS
    S-u-T this isn't a dig at you :-D xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Comment number 52.

Isn't granola a type of sawdust chippings?

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 53.

Steve now you just haven't lived if you don't do granola! Mind the best I had was in New York and it was all cinnamony which was brilliant as I lurve cinnamon. Twas a well known brand we have over here but they don't sell it here boohoo. PS Steve I do the cranberries and blueberries in those formats too!

Sorry don't do porridge tho - we can't all be the same, luckily. Just don't get me started on ice creams - has to be Italian, sorry.

    S x

  • Comment number 54.

But Steve, you could argue that adding a blueberry to a muffin is "poncifying" it!!

There are days when plain food is good and others when you want something fancy!!

    Miss P

  • Comment number 55.

IS granola a type of museli type stuff?

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 56.

    MissP,

I don't like either so not fussed :-D

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 57.

Granola is a breakfast food and snack food consisting of rolled oats, nuts, honey, and sometimes rice, that is usually baked until crispy. During the baking process the mixture is stirred to maintain a loose, breakfast cereal-type consistency. Dried fruits, such as raisins and dates, are sometimes added.

  • Comment number 58.

    Afternoon all,

Sandwiches.. boxing day - fresh white bread, left over turkey, cranberry and stuffing. Mmmm.

I always have trouble finding sandwiches in supermarkets, I can't eat brown bread and I don't like mayonnaise so finding something is nearly impossible.

Cereal - the only way I can eat the wheaty biscuit cereal is spread with butter and jam and eaten like toast, yes I know, I'm weird!

We have recently discovered Amish baked oatmeal for breakfast, lots of different recipes but the one I use has oats, eggs, milk, sugar, dried fruit and nuts. Mix it all up stick it in a tin and bake it. Then eat it hot with hot milk. More of a winter thing though!

Hungry now, will have to go investigate what there is to eat, though as I have yet to go food shopping, I suspect not much!

    Hope everyone's OK,

    Dragonxx

Themanfromuncle - A FULLY understand the points yer trying ter 'it!!!!
A agree the MotoGP is a great dee out!!!!!

Just wanted ter share this MEGA tune from this MEGA band from their MEGA album!!!!!

The BIG Q is.... why... why is this MEGA brill band not played on the raio more often.... and in particular on CLP's very friendly radio show????

Some times a wish if a 'ad ave gotta job 'elping out on CLP's show... a would ave 'ad the job of 'elping ter choose the daily playlist... of course a few on the R2 Playlist A & B & C need ter be thrown in each dee... and then getting a balance of tunes/ styles of music ter appeal ter the target audience!!!!

A tell yer if this was my job... a would put 190% inter getting it correct!!!!!!

And this tune would definately feature one morning & INDEED this band would feature at least once a month if noot slightly more often.... Enjoy all >>>>

    Back ter albegra revision.....

  • Comment number 68.

PS Just makes me wanter dance the above tune.... MEGA!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 69.

Just wanter add.... The music yer choose for a radio show is a VERY important part of the show & going terwards it's success!!!!
As important as the DJ/ presenter & INDEEd the talkie bits!!!!!

CLP & ALL the Breakfast Gig Team doing a most excellent job going by the increase in ratings - know what am sayin'!!!!!

The thing is... Sir Tel's audience a think the average age was about 52 or 53 if a remember correctly!!!!

A notice CLP is cleverly targeting the younger audience by 'aving parts of the show like the kiddies phoning in... all 'elping the show ter appeal ter both adults & kids too!!!!!
    Most clever move!!!!!!

And aswell as attracting new listeners from the younger audience also wanting ter 'old on ter most of Sir Tel's TOG dudes!!!!!!

One way is getting the balance of music correct!!!!!

But a think now could be the right time ter very gently start playing slightly younger music (not full blast R1 type music otherwise all yer older audience will do a runner) but a think now is the time ter gently play a bit more younger music ter attract more 20 ter 40 year olds... but being careful not ter alienate the over 40 listeners!!!!!

Soz getting carried away there... only trying ter voice an opinion & 'elp a bit....

    'ope this 'elps!!!!!

Why am a writing this.... a need ter get back ter me maths!!!

    Bye!
