Loving the World Cup. Alright, so we didn't play very well at all really - and poor Rob G - took his eye off the ball...and the next thing, he was holding his head in his hands. At least he didn't drop that.

BUT - what a festival, what a party. Looking forward to the 55 remaining games - I think.
I hope my interest doesn't fade - either that or my wife doesn't sell the telly in the meantime.

So, Holland today and Italy tonight, Brazil and Spain still to come and then Friday we're back on the world stage.

The week's gonna fly by, off to write more of draft 63 of Book ll; a bit of gym work; Noah and Tash time; and the sofa and the soccer in between.

    Morning (just) gang.

    How's things?

Now I enjoyed the game on Friday, or at least the hope and expectations that go with watching our national team, however......those blooming trumpet/horn things are getting on my nerves! Can't they ban them?

If football's coming home, leave the trumpets over there please :o)

    Morning Chris ,
Not really interested in the footy ,and really pleased that Mr B isn't either ,but hope you enjoy it all and that Tash doesn't sell the telly, but I'm sure you'd find somewhere to watch it .

Have you not got a TV in your office at home ??.

Hi Chris: I was thinking of you on Saturday while watching the match! If England can just "keep the heid" on Friday it will be ok - but I am only too aware of the torture of wanting your team to win - the tears I have shed because of Scotland losing, doesn't bear thinking about!

    Hope everyone is ok today.

    Chris

I feel really sorry for Robert Green.

Ok, it was a horrific mistake and led to a goal, but both Heskey and Wright-Phillips missed sitters in the second half and yet there is no media frenzy about that.

As for our predictions, perhaps it not time to give up the day job just yet.

    Chris,

Not a great game was it...and itv hd going blip when England scored din't help much either - a Scotsman with a warped sense of humour at itv perhaps?
And what's this about "it's not about winning" nonsense - good god man!! My son said this to me on Saturday and I had to put him straight - no wonder we never win anything with that attitude!
And these vuvuwotsits are starting to get on my wick too - can't hear the crowd for the drone and I suspect the players can't even hear the whistle either...
Not often I will say this but felt sorry for the Aussies!

    Hello Chris.

Cloudy & cool here today but not raining!

Don't talk to me about football. Throughout the weekend I've had to listen to the sound of the vuvuzela coming from next door.

So what am I going to do?
Will I just quietly put up with it for 4 weeks? No.
Will I knock on their door and complain? No.

I am going to get my very own vuvuzela and lie in wait until they are quietly sunbathing in their garden.

    And then SOUND THE HORN!!!!!!!$$$$$!!!!!!!$$$$$$$$..........!!!!!!!!!

Will this be the start of a vuvuzela war?

Is that what they are called then? Vu Vu thingys? Had no idea.

Felt sorry for the Aussies too Nic. How does Tim Booth dance anyway? In fact, who is Tim Booth?

the noise of the oversized bee (Vuvuzela) is giving me and the lads the headache, is there anyway of the TV boys dampening it.

3 to 4.5 hours a day of the giant bee is sending us off the cold stuff and on to the drugs (parecetemol)

  • Comment number 11.

What's this "feeling sorry for the Aussies" all about.

Personally I wish Germany had scored a few more and really stuffed it up them.

Ask yourselves this, If England lost 4-0 would any Australian being feeling sorry for them?

    No, Of course not!

They'd be too busy laughing into their pints of fizzy lager.

I for one will be right behind Ghana on Saturday.

    Go, The Black Stars.

I was watching Doc Who rather than the footie but as soon as we scored I knew about it - my neighbours were cheering so loud! I could hear them through the wall! I flicked over for the goal celebrations and then flicked back.

  • Comment number 14.

    Hello Everybody Peeps,

Overcast and breezy in Lincolnshire today.

I am totally fed up with the football but did feel sorry for Robert Green. I am trying hard to find it within myself to support England but, as a Scot, I really do struggle. Could it be all the hype beforehand and then the making of scapegoats when expectations are not realised? I admire Scots who can - so I will try to be a better person and lend my support, but I'm just not ready yet. :( It's not jealousy and you mustn't take it personally. You bloggers are all so lovely and I certainly don't mean to offend so apologies for any offence caused.

I'm feeling really bad for my comments now but feel I have to say what I think, I can't be two-faced and as there's a fair bit on here about the footie I thought I'd better explain why I'm not shouting for England. Perhaps I should have just carried on lurking and keeping my big fat g*b shut.

Well I'm offski to hang my head in shame and to start looking for that wee spark inside me that will allow me to shout 'Come on England'. It could be that I just don't care enough about football!?! any help from England support Scots will be gratefully received.

    Toodle-oo for noo,

    GailyB

*slinking away quietly with tail firmly between her legs and head hung in shame*

Ps, just before I do slink off - Bingo: there was me thinking you were a Geordie - I've been reading your blogs with a Geordie accent all this time. Will have to starting reading in Scouse.

  • Comment number 15.

Erratum - Eighth word, 16 lines down should read "supporting".

  • Comment number 16.

    Hi Gaily

Your post has made me think and I would be very grateful if someone would explain for me.

When England are playing any sport, I support them over everyone else. Because I am English. But when England are not playing and Scotland, Ireland or Wales are playing - I will always support them. Because I live in the UK.

I genuinely don't know the historic reason why it seems that Scotsmen and women are unable to feel the same way and in fact, it appears that the majority of them will go out of their way to support anybody BUT England.

Would be really grateful, if someone would gently point out to me why this is the case.

Not wishing to start any controversial discussions here. Simply intrigued.

    Thank you

  • Comment number 18.

Hi Beany, I know - English people are generally happy to get behind any of the other home nations and I don't know myself what is behind our reluctance. It could be all the hype, followed by poor performance, followed by finding the inevitable scapegoat, followed by harking back to 1966. I don't want to upset anyone or start any controversial discussion and as I say it isn't personal. After all, I live and work in Lincolnshire and my children were born south of the border.

Anyway, it's home time. will be popping back later to see what's transpired.

    Hi everyone,

    Hope all is well.

Trying to catch up with the blog over the weekend - I hate to miss anything!

Annie: I saw your comment about the jingle that Chris plays "welcome to another day on Planet Earth" and I have to say, I feel the same. Not just the sadness of losing our lovely Beez, but as you say, all the other people in our lives who have gone. Losing my parents was awful, but when two of my brothers, and one sister passed away, it actually was unbelievable. These are people who you think will be in your lives forever. xx

So glad to see the Portsmouth Meet went well. I did think of you all as I celebrated my sister's birthday with a glass or two of the white grape! It was a glorious day here in Glasgow, and it's great that your weather was lovely too.

Gail: what an incredible achievement from your walk. Really well done - you must be chuffed!

Gailyb: heavens only knows where all this Scotland-England divide started. I really do see where you are coming from, but for myself, in any tournament if Scotland are not playing, I will always support the "home" side whoever that might be. When filling in forms, I always class myself as British, although I am very proud to be Scots too. It is a tough one!

Oh, and Gaily, just to say: having met Bingo, he is a love Scouser. What a really terrific, lovely, guy he is - great fun, too!

I am sure there's loads more to say, so I may be back!

    C xx

Gail, I'm Welsh, but I live in England and my husband is half English half Irish. He generally supports England first, ROI second, and I support Wales first and England second.

However, this isn't ever a problem for the FIFA World Cup as Wales haven't qualified since 1958!

Now, rugby is a completely different matter! LOL

I even forgot the football was on - which was a bonus!

MCW - soory to hear about your chickens, foxes got my husbands parents rabbits and I remember how bad it was for them.

Gail - well done for your walk - a great achievement.

As I was watching aerosmith last night - and they sang dream on - there is a line - coz the God lord might take you away - made me think of beez and bought a tear to my eye - you never know when and you need to enjoy your life now!

    Afternoon CLP and everyone else,

Not sure if enjoying is the right word when talking about the World Cup. Admittedly I've only watched the England game, and well that wasn't a hugely pleasureable experience! I'm another one of the "mixed race" bloggers in that I am English (born in Liverpool), but my Mum is Scottish (with a touch of Northern Irish in there somewhere) and my Dad was English with a smattering of Welsh, and now I live in Scotland! So I am supporting England in the World Cup, and would equally support Scotland if they had qualified. The trouble is trying to pick a team during the 6 Nations! I do have several Scottish friends who are in the "anyone but England" camp, but am not entirely clear on their reasoning behind it. I think a lot of it rests on the amount of hype that the London media create around the England team.

Oh and as for the Vuvuzelas, I'm all for creating atmosphere but they are b****y annoying!!!

    Hope you're all ok

Football - saw some of the game on Saturday and no absolutely nothing about the game so other than thinking it was a tad boring (in my opinion) I can't comment! Those vuvu things - what an awaful noise they make - like a huge swarm of bees!

Hope good weekends were had by one & all.

    Afternoon,

Please accept my apologies for the lack of blogging my Mum sends a note and says it was because I was really busy.

Last Monday a new YTS Kid started, so that took up a while, then Thursday/Friday I was in Brussels (working not shirking), and the weekend was action packed. Finishing yesterday afternoon with a ride on the back of my friends Harley, it was awesome. Although I have never been more terrified in all my life. I thought he might just take me down the road and back..nooooo. Along motorways and everything we were out for about an hour - it was fan-tas-tic.

    Welcome to Looby xx

MCW - Sorry about your chooks xx nasty old Mr Fox :(

Glad the Portsmouth meet went well, the photos look great and everyone looks on good form.

Football - love it, but have to agree with Chris this morning. There were 11 men on that pitch and for the last 10 minutes they kept the ball in their half going for the draw. You are in it to win it not draw, you can't score in your own half - rant over. Can't stand those vuvu things, my friend made me chuckly on Friday, she is poorly sick and has blocked up ears, but she said to me is there a bee in the room...LOL. So I turned the TV to mute and we both had a chuckle at her expense.

I am sure there are more things to say, but this might turn out to be a long one...sorry about that.

    Afternoon all,

Out of control, hello and welcome, i'm very new myself so just hurtling myself into this whole blog thing, think it's the best way to proceed.

Had a lovely weekend with brill sunshine; missed the football as stuck at a standstill in horrendous traffic jam on the M4 for three hours, at one point someone driving in the opposite direction yelled out "your missing the football" which I thought a tad unnecessary and very unwelcome. Still their was the odd comic compensation with the very surreal sight of people letting their dogs out of the car and taking them for a walk along the motorway.

Ah well, time to think about supper tonight, roast salmon with green beens, tomatoes and anchovies. Anchovies, the marmite of the gastronome world...

    Evening gang

I've been soooooooo busy today, really silly busy - but I love it! Then got home, prepped tea and blitzed the ironing .... and relax!

Just been looking at pics from the Portsmouth meet - you all looked lovely and the weather was "well kind man!"

We had a great weekend - went to an English Heritage place on Saturday where Charles II hid in a tree from Cromwell - Boscobel House. It was really pretty and only half an hour from home. Then the footie in the evening - say no more on that one. Sunday was 3 footie games and the F1 GP and a cancelled BBQ due to rainfall - just as well we have an oven!

Baggy - glad Download was fun. Hope Mary's place lived up to its usual standards.

As for the vuvuthingybobs - Unc, if you're lurking - do they remind you of a load of 125cc bikes flying round at Donnington!!?! I keep expecting to see Bradley Smith riding over the pitch ........

Right, the Italy game has just kicked off, although it won't be the same without Totti.

    Good evening everyone

Been trying to get on here all day but it's just been manic here!

Football was a big let down after about the 1st 10 minutes (just my opinion) but I was delighted with the GP result, well done Lewis and Jenson 2nd 1, 2 finish in 2 races :-)

Well I've finally got some where with the estate agent issue, when I turned the computer on at 1.30 this afternoon and there was still no email I phoned another office and asked what their complaints procedure was, the lady asked what my problem was and could she help so I explained and she phoned the manager of my local office to find out what was happening then called me back to say he would drop the details in later and if I still wasn't happy to call her back and she'd pass my details onto the regional manager.
Well surprise surprise he turned up at my door at 4pm with the details and camera to take photos! So hopefully tomorrow the house will be online and then maybe we can sell it :-)
No apology for the hassle but at least he knows that I will go over his head if I'm not happy!

Glad everyone had a good time at the Portsmouth meet, not seen any photos yet but will look on fb in a min.

Dolly M4 traffic jam sounds horrible not how you want to spend yuor Saturday evening :-(

Off to check out fb and try to get to the top of the bejewelled leader board, back later.

MCM, I feel exactly the same. When I took delivery of my new car (well, 1yr old car) I'd been told the garage would give me the £30 road tax and a tank full of deisel. Neither happened and I didn't complain. I should have, but I definitely won't be recommending that garage to anyone and I won't be going there again.

    Evening Everybody Peeps,

Gaily: I'm sorry I was a bit distracted earlier - wanted to say congrats on the walk and the fantastic sum of money you raised. That's fab.

Dolly and Out of Control: Hello, Good Evening and Welcome.

Deevs: Sounds like a grand way to spend the weekend. Pleased you've got yourself a job that's keeping you busy and you're enjoying into the bargain. Worth the wait, I should think.

MCM: As Annie says, it's terrible that you have to be assertive before these people do the job they're paid for. V annoying.

AS: Liking the sound of the 'family' outing. I hope it went well.

We had wee gorgeous boy's birthday yesterday. When asked if he'd enjoyed his day as he was popping into bed he said in a rather flat tone "yeah it was okay". I can't tell you how pleased I was that all my efforts had culminated in an "okay" day.

Older gorgeous boy is in the throes of GCSEs but it'll all be over on Thursday and he has the rest of the summer to 'chill'. Well that's what he thinks. I told him I'd have a list of jobs to keep him occupied - he seemed so thrilled too ;)

Have had to put up with a whingy Mr JG today, he took my car for an MOT (I took his in Feb)!

It turns out the garage who put the rear tyres on put different tyres on each of the back wheels!! So it failed...

BUT Merc did the MOT last year, with the same tyres on and missed it! Too late to get back to the original garage, although we might. But we got a discount on the new tyre and a free SRS test, as that'd popped up again as well!

Still cost me £200, but I need to go back to the original garage for full retribution, but don't think I'll get much from them! Will try though!

Have also got good news, have found some new kennels for Finlay, who is still not himself! Mr JG checked them out and they are fine, so we will forfeit the £20 deposit already paid for the other lot, and put him in the new ones!

MC, I haven't forgotten your offer, but maybe a one night trial, for him and more importantly, you!! He can be a right bugger! ;)

Annie: I'm pleased to hear wee Sam is doing okay. I'm assuming he's home now and ruling the roost. Love the bumper sticker - that'd get a few odd looks in Dunfers. For car repairs I can also recommend the most reliable Mark in Lincoln - he's an absolute sweetheart.

Susan, Annie - is there such a thing as a posh Geordie? ;) only kidding. I didn't used to be but living south of the border I'm a fairly posh Fifer these days. I love going home and meeting my wee pal that I've known since primary school days - her accent and vocab haven't changed a bit - it's like slipping on a pair of comfy baffies (slippers).

Talking about Geordies sad news about dear old Gazza isn't it? I hope he gets better soon.

    Hi

Annie, great news about little Sam xx

Susan and Annie, posh Geordies, ha ha ha! Perhaps I'm one of those, (ok Wearsider, totally different as we know). Except when I go back up there, or talk on the phone to my mam or brother. Aye man.

AF, sending you lots of love at this very difficult time. I went through it myself two years ago exactly. It is great loss. XX

    Love to everyone else.

Gaily, haven't seen the news about Gazza - what? He's a Gateshead boy with little education and a gift for football, but doomed with the North East gift for alcohol.

Ah, the Black Horse at Felling, by the Metro (actually, before they built the Metro). Use to meet up with our Felling mates there en route to Newcastle. I think.

PS They used to bus a load of Felling catholics over to my school.

Good god BG, the Black Horse?? Don't remember that one, but darling brother had his recording studio in the old Bank building on the Sunderland Road in Felling, long before the Metro was built.

Has anyone else been experiencing 'internal error'? My internet's not great so could just be that but the page is taking forever to load then comes up with 'internal error'

Susan I've got to get my car serviced on wednesday and it's going to be over £400 Mr MCM is going mad about it as I'm going to the local dealer rather than cheaper garage but I need it done sooner rather than later and cheaper garage can't do it til week after next.

Annie Gazza was in a car accident last night, suffered serious injuries but not life threatening.

    Night Seza, sleep well.

Gaily, he sent me a text to say he'd transferred the money from my account to his whilst he was waiting!

It's one expensive car, and once his brother has had use of it for his wedding car (assuming I don't prang it on the way up there) it's on the market...any offers??

I'm not going to drive it again until the wedding, it'll be valeted tomorrow, and the outside will be done when we get there...

Err excuse me, this is supposed to be my everyday car...Can I have my MX5 back please???

    Hiya Gaily,

No, not yet, been living it rather than reading about it unfortunately. Am just emerging from the kind of fortnight nightmares are made of, but I think we're going in the right direction again, thanks. And I will definitely give it a whirl. Can't get on FB at the mo as it is disabled on both computers - you can probably guess why!

Nice to see you all, better go.

Way past mine too, but I still have half a glass left, but looking at the time, it'd better go down the sink!

I think my best friend and colleague was scared to death when I drove him to Altrincham today, especially on the M60!!

I must remember that if he had driven like I did, I would have been screaming! But he managed not to shout out!! LOL

He did direct me back avoiding the motorway too...Hmmmm

    Night all!
