Isn't It Strange Being You All The Time

Chris Evans | 10:56 UK time, Friday, 6 August 2010

Just driving round the M25 thinking, "Here I am being me again."

Always me, never anyone else and this is it. Imagine being someone you don't like, and having to be them instead. That must be unbearable.

The more I think about this, the more it's making me feel slightly weird. "So I'm me - and that's it - tomorrow, the day after, next year - the whole shooting match. I will only ever see through these eyes and hear through these ears, and there you are."

Well I'd better start coming to terms with that, hadn't I ?

So here's to you and here's to me and here's to all of us - 'cos that's all there is. Going for a lie down in a dark room.

Roll on the weekend.

Wow! I seem to be saying "wow" a lot this week. Anyway an amazing post CLP as only yesterday I was reading a piece on accepting ourselves. This I personally find hard as I'm my own worst critic.

Just to clarify on yesterday's post - I didn't mean to send in a shoddy book, just don't be too critical of yourself.

Anyway (there I go with the "anyway"). Darlings of THE Blog - have a wowful day. You never know I might see you later. . .

    Hello CLP

I Am What I Am And What I Am Needs No Excuses!

Having said that sometimes I do need some excuses. But we can't all be perfect all the time, we all have good and bad in us, we can only be ourselves. And what a boring world if everyone was perfect.

Today shall I be good or shall I enjoy myself?

CLP - very deep for a Friday morning. Luckily I like myself too and wouldn't change a thing (other than maybe my putting stroke) so huraaaah to life.

Still sunny in Kent and getting warmer by the minutes. Shorts on soon !!!

Oh, maybe change my legs too, bit skinny for shorts.

  • Comment number 6.

    Morning all (just)

Very thought provoking CLP - I think it takes a long time to accept that you are you and I am I and we can't be anybody else. Luckily I am in a pretty good place at the moment, so being me isn't so bad.

Although it is clear and a bit sunny, it is also a bit chilly here. Still off to Lithuania next week and they are in the middle of a heatwave (probably start raining then).

TtT - I seem to do a lot of anyways as well.

How true CLP, we need to accept this is who we are, otherwise we get in all sorts of bother.

Glad to see it isn't raining on Deev's and Nic at the cricket (yet), hope you're both having a good day.

Got a real CBA Friday feeling today.

Shame I've got lots that I should be doing!

Just time to pop a post on here, to say that we are back from the vets and Dylan has got the all clear.

The healing is going to take months, but he is now officially off the danger list.

The vet is amazed at how he has defied the odds and pulled through.

So, thanks to each and everyone that sent such encouraging support.

Just goes to show it works doesn't it.

And as the bill wasn't as huge as anticipated, we will eat this weekend after all.

I guess the milky bars are on me.

    Off to work now.

I'm home too, what a strange and busy day.

It's the end of an era, after 9 1/2 years, I no longer work in Salford Quays!

am absolutely exhausted after packing up everything all day, so intend to put my feet up and pour a glass of wine.

Baggy, hope your day improved hun!

MTF, glad Dylan has been given the all clear!

MC, pets are a tie aren't they? Sometimes the smaller ones are more trouble as they are less able to be taken to the kennels, although Finlay's place does take small critters.

You deserve it anyway JG - how's the knee?

  • Comment number 27.

Eveeeeenin aaaallll. I’m getting used to this bloggin now.

MTF - pets can be such a worry. Just back form the vets yesterday following a huge gash in my cat’s leg. Now just having fun trying to get tablets and anti-inflammatory down his neck !!!!

JG - wine already open here.

Why do I harp on about the weather, sunny all day until I venture on to the golf course then guess what ..... It starts to rain. I blame the South West as that’s where it blew over from.

  • Comment number 28.

MTD, the knee's on the mend I think, but I get the feeling it will be a slow process unfortunately. It's still quite swollen, but at least the bruising has almost disappeared now.

I can get upstairs more easily than down, but have probably done far too much today than I should have done, so it's hurting quite a bit now!

Mikey, wine open here too now! We've just had a really heavy shower, which has helped me rest up, as I was going to attempt to cut the lawn!

I find getting tablets down Finlay (the dog) quite easy as long as they are hidden in cheese! Now my Mum's cat will not take any, she turns into a vicious wild thing, so good luck!

    JG x

  • Comment number 29.

Well I'm in need of a lie down, have just cooked a meal. & just shared the big bokkle of cider with Mr MC . My mind is pleasantly fuzzy, but thats nothing new

JG, I guess its the big A for you next week then ? Hope your leg improves.

MM hope your puddy tat gets better.

Right, off to search for a hollibob .

    MC xx

  • Comment number 30.

MC, yes, the new chapter begins in Altrincham, I hope I remember on Monday morning, and don't drive to Salford Quays on auto-pilot as usual!

    JG x

  • Comment number 31.

    JG,

Hope it goes well, i know you are not looking forward to the commute, but at least the schools are out at the moment . Have you got your route planned out now?

    MC ;-)

  • Comment number 32.

MC, I think so, am going to try the M6/M56 route, although I need to look at the last bit from the M56 again....will only use the Warby bridge route when the M6 is blocked...it seemed to take ages! But then I didn't know the roads, speed limits, cameras etc...

Just had a text from my sister, she must be psychic, telling me NOT to attempt the lawn, she'll do it for me when she gets here!! She'd rather me be able to walk around Alton Towers! How sweet is that!!

    JG x

  • Comment number 33.

Oh, and another one just through, I'm not to get all the shopping, they will come with me and push the trolley around, and help me!

I was worried about that as I don't want to twist this knee any more than necessary!

    JG x

  • Comment number 34.

And, at the point of monopolising the blog at the moment, actually CLP, it is quite strange being me at the moment...

Am struggling with a bad knee
Moving offices, with a new commute
Having a tidy-ish house, still more to do though!
And at a point in my life where I am re-evaluating things that are or are not important anymore...

Nothing beats a good old sort out, once Mum, Sister and nieces have gone home will be doing the same with my wardrobe!

    And now, hopefully, tea's ready!

    JG x

  • Comment number 35.

    Evening all

Can I join in with the non-working knees please? I'd love to know what I've done to mine, but I think whatever it was happened in my sleep. Feels a bit twisted, pain mostly to the right of my left knee. It's not swollen or in anyway a different shape to my right knee, but it has taken to objecting (in a sharp stabbing pain way) to being bent in order to climb stairs, get in and out of the car, put trousers on etc. Most off putting quite frankly. It seems quite happy to be bent when I'm sat down though, so it's a bit strange.

Anyway, tis the weekend. So apart from the weekly wander (which may well be a short hobble this week) the diary seems to be blank this weekend, but no doubt the few things I have in mind to do will expand and fill it all on their own. Will try and rest the knee, having tried the tactic of walking it off which appears to be failing!

MTF: Glad Dylan's got his pass mark :)

JG: glad your sis is looking after you, even if she's not there yet :)

  • Comment number 36.

Do you know what Chris... I expect that writing your autobiography must be very draining yet also rewarding. It surely allowed you to re-visit times, people and places and reflect on yourself and the impact your actions/reactions have had. Hindsight is a gift but only if we learn it the lessons it promises us. Pretty powerful stuff I should imagine. Getting to know yourself is a difficult enough process, however, it is the accepting yourself for what and who you are, together with the why you are the way you are, that is a the real challenge.

No problem and no need to tell me I’m talking twaddle... why change the habits of a lifetime?

Anyway... hope all are well and looking forward to the week-end... we’re just back from dinner with my parents... which was a laugh... it’s so good to spend time with the chaps and my folks...

Take care and make the most of it...

Chris - profound thoughts indeed. I often think that I'm alone in my head - we're all little islands aren't we? Everyone has their own story to tell, faces can be masks, no-one really knows what's going on inside other peoples' heads.

    Enough of that.

Got up at 4am this morning, left the house at 5 to drive to Newcastle with man in the cupboard to my darling Aunt's funeral and just arrived home now. All my extended family were there and while it was a little sad, we all have such lovely memories of a beautiful lady and had such fun sharing them and looking at old photos of us all when we were little.
