Put Some More Radio 2 On The Fire.

Chris Evans | 09:53 UK time, Thursday, 2 December 2010

That's what it felt like today. We had to keep warming you up with anything we had to say and play. Radio has to be warm at the best of times but when the nation is undergoing what it is at the moment - especially so.

As I tap today's blog into my mobile phone, I am on the move once again to make a short film. After fencing with Jonny yesterday, today we test sledges for our One Show toy special tomorrow night.

Kids, Kylie and Santa's sack. Exactly how did I get this wonderful job again - will someone remind me !

    Morning Chris

I have to say, the show had a warm glowy feel to it this morning (or what I heard before heading out into Arctic Cannockshire!) I was wondering if it was for Tash's return, or is Hells Bells From Hull totally loved up at the mo?

We've just taken an executive decision here and subsequently ordered a round of bacon/sausage sandwiches to be delivered any time ...... huzzah!!!

I am not a happy bunny today. Although how you can tell the difference between a happy bunny and a grumpy one has never been fully explained to me.

Yesterday I was working from home, sitting next to a roaring convector heater, not missing the Artic conditions usually experienced during the course of a day in our office not one jot. Today, though I discover that the Internet connection in our house isn't working and that as as result I'm now having to repeatedly stamp my feet on the ground in an attempt to get some feeling back in my feet, knowing full well that when the feeling does return, I'll probably discover that I've broken a couple of metatarsals.

My guess for the Advent Calendar today? Lord Lucan.

Chris. You got the job because:
    a) You are talented;
    b) You have learned from the past;
    c) Someone at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ believed in you, as we do;
    d) You have proved yourself MORE THAN worthy of the task.

I agree with the above posts - you keep us together - a rare gift to possess, but one which you have in abundance. Danny Baker also has it. Hope he's on the road to recovery soon. As for you - forget the past; do not worry about what you cannot change. In the here and now- we LOVE you - as well as Johnny "Stab" Saunders; Lynne "Splott" Boyles; and Moira "Goddess" Stuart - the perfect team for the harsh reality of dawn.

And as for dearest little "sNOwAH" - no words can express his cuteness - keep his soundbites coming!!!

Hello to folks that have sent the latest greetings to me - thank you SO much. Your warm welcomes mean a great deal to us. xx

Off to visit elderly now. Procrastination is the thief of time, they say, and Jasper & I have pilfered enough.

    Hi everyone:

Hope all is well ... or as well as it can be, given the circumstances! The H*ll that is the snow continues in Glasgow. (Sorry MTF, I tried to be upbeat about it, but have failed!). When we left the house the morning, MrS said to me "for the love of Mike, stop wimpering!". Actually, he didn't use the name Mike, nor indeed did he say anything about love either!

My sincere sympathy to everyone who is battling with the conditions - I can suggest that a wee wimper does help to get you through it!

Annie: glad to see you made it out for some serious provisions: a girl can never have enough wine in stock!

Mary: your story made me laugh so much - guarding your wine with your life - a girl after my own heart!

Bingo: hope you are ok - sounds like that was a bad fall. xx

Pen: Men! They never listen, do they? Hope Mr Pen sees sense and heads back home at a sensible time.

To everyone who has stayed home day - well done. I do think it's crazy how we risk life and limb to get to work ... I wish my boss would see it that way!

    Loving the poems, btw!

Cheryl, last but certainly not least, re: Advent Calendar - a snowflake - bound to show up any day now!

Have heard from Mr P, he says he was only '15 minutes late', like it was a race or something! Only 5 staff members made it in, and none of them were locals, FFS, what's that all about!? 'Will be home before dark', he says, yeah right. Me? I'm keeping schtum, but will secretly be pleased when he gets here!

Really am so sorry for all of you who have got proper bad weather

Boys and I are stuck home but it's not that bad really - especially now it's stopped for a while

I just hope it starts to improve now

I must have the only kids in the country who are disappointed not to go to school - they were having a party in drama club so I expect that will be next week

On the plus side as boy1 made his mince pies here, none of them have mysteriously vanished and very nice they are too!

Well, I've had a busy morning, and have stuff to do this arvo BUT I am so distracted thinking about Christmas stuff I just don't want to be here!

Being busy is one thing, but it's so repetitive I am slowly losing the will.

I also mentioned about putting some tinsel and a wee tree up in the office which was met with a "not keen on that idea" from da boss. Ne'er mind - she's out all day tomorrow en route to the firm's Christmas paaaaaaarty.

Been snowing steadily all day here and the skies are currently greyer than grey can be.

    Afternoon,

I'm home and that's where I shall be for the forseeable future :) Well at least until cabin fever sets in.

Things that made me smile on my walk home:

    1. A husky dog, loloping about in the snow.
    2. Grown men and women sledging and laughing all the way down the hill as they gathered speed.
    3. The Dean of Rochester saying hello to me (he's a bit of a dish)
    4. A baby in some contraption on it's mothers back looking very cute
    5. A man pulling his little boy along the road in an inflatable dingy
    6. Someone had carved out a smiley face on each car along a snowed in road

    It's the small things.

Chris, Cracking show this morning and I can almost forgive you for playing Christmas jingles. Haven't heard Noah yet, but can't wait too.

Afternoon CLP and tout le monde, thank you for a cheery show this morning CLP when I'm sure many people are feeling less than cheery what with all this white stuff falling just now!

Day off from work today, a scheduled day off mind, not due to the snow. I ventured out this morning to go to the supermarket, donned trackie bottoms, wellies, cagoule, hat and rucksack, and loaded it up with as much as I could carry. It was a bit of a flashback to Uni days when I had to walk there and back all the time! I also cleared a 6 inch layer of snow from my car and turned the ignition on for 5 mins to let it tick over. However as soon as I had finished clearing snow it started up again, and is falling quite steadily at the moment.

Right, off to do some chores and keep warm!

    Rx

PS Just to reiterate, my guess for the advent calendar today is a Christmas pud. Ta

Well I eventually made it in to work thanks to a very considerate taxi driver who insisted on battling his way into my road to get me. I know he gets paid to do it but none of the others would do it. When I made the booking I was told I would have to make my way to the main road which I said I would do but they called me back to say stay at home the driver has said he will come and get you. It's nice to get someone who cares.

Cheryl - my guess for today is a carrot xx

Pen: glad to hear Mr Pen is home safe. When MrS is out driving in this weather, my heart is in my mouth until he is home.

AliB: your post was just lovely. Good to hear you are home, and probably a good idea to stay put for a while!

MsS has called me to say that the weather forecast for tomorrow is heavy snow in the West of Scotland! Lovely, just ruddy lovely!

I think it is a complete bummer that England did not win their bid for the World Cup. MrS was already planning his trip to the World Cup, a dream he has had since Adam was a boy. It's just ridiculous that England have not hosted the tournament since 1966 - it just does not add up.

I hate to say this, but if I am here in 2030, it will be a miracle, given my lifestyle!

And speaking of lifestyles, it looks like that for one blogger, the bar appears to be open!

Plum, given the frequency that you appear back here when you have vowed never to return, I would say we know where your obsession lies

    Thanks Keith!

Plum, if we're talking defamation of character I invite anyone on here to troll back over past blogs (3 years or so should do it) to see how downright nasty you have been towards me.

Reently at R2, Nov 18th, CiN Day, myself and all of the other bloggers who volunteered their time were greeted with open arms by Chris himself, and Hells Bells (Johnny even remembers some of us from the 02 last year). I am proud that Chris knows who I am. He engages into conversation. He is happy for NIc and I and how we met on this blog.

Could you look Chris in the eye and introduce yourself after all of the vindictiveness you have spread on here over the years?

Why do you bother? Is it some bizarre perversion of yours to just purposefully troll through life, upsetting the happy go lucky nonsense that most of us enjoy on here.

Just for once, can't you behave in a human-like way?

It is (nearly) Christmas, after all.

Right, home time ...... will be back later with advent reveal. I am so hoping it's Lord Lucan!

Plummy_Pie I can honestly say I do not understand what you are saying. Would you like to re-phrase your last comment to me so it makes sense?

I'm not bothered if you don't, just wondered what you were trying to say to me

Enough!!! Why do we get drawn in everytime!!

All I can say UC is that I am so glad that Merlot grapes are grown in warmer climes (chile, italy etc). I would be happy to join your vodka boycott, as long as it has passed my lips first (tmi???).

I am a bit gutted although given where I live I wasn't looking forward to trying to get around when games were being played locally.
