On the way to Hay

Chris Evans | 11:33 UK time, Thursday, 2 June 2011

Just eaten one of those big bags of crisps I swore I would never go near again. D'oh !

Also the traffic has been like a game of avoid the jam. We've been in every direction save the one we need to go in. An hour and a half on the road, and still nowhere near. But it will all be worth it when we pull up to the chippy in the high street the moment we arrive. Or shall we go to the ice cream parlour first ? Fields, books, tents, chips, ice cream parlours - oh and pubs by the river.

Suddenly the traffic seems like a small price to pay.

See you on the radio tomorrow.

Blinky Blimey Chief ... will you have time to radio with all that noshing on the agenda!?!?

    Crisps. Love 'em.

My current faves are the "Gary Lineker" ones in the black bag, roast chicken and thyme (at least, I think it's thyme ...). Absolutely delishus and more moreish than a moreish thing!

Salad for lunch it is then!

    Mange Tout.

    Hi Deevski.

Not much of a crisp eater, but first choice would be the tomato ketchup ones. Lush.

Back to the garden, just had a sneaky peek in and spotted a new blog.

Ooooh I like those ones too MTF! And the weirdest thing ever ...... I always hated, loathed, detested prawn cocktail crisps with a passion. However, just lately, a taste has developed and now .... nom nom nom!!

    Hello CE & Everyone.

Wey Hey! Make Hay while the sun shines Chris!

A lovely sunny day here on the Wirral peninsula too.

We've got to have crisps Chris, my favourite at the moment are cheese & onion. And if I were you I'd go for the chips first followed by the ice cream later.

PS I don't like prawn crisps either Deevs and don't think I ever will, don't like salt and vinegar either!

Hi Chris: have a terrific time. Sounds like tomorrow's show is going to be a belter! How the judges will make their decision on the winning story, I just do not know. Good luck to all the children. xx

Hi everyone, hope everything is ok with you.

Rosie: sounds like you had an incredible holiday. Loved the story of the drinks being lifted up by pulley - I would probably have just stayed at the bottom of the ladder!

Annie and mtd (OH): hope you have a lovely mini-meet.

    mtd: have a great holiday!

Susan, our lovely Highland Lass: Happy Birthday! Hope you are having a great time, with lots of wee surprises!

    Afternoon all

V busy at mo so just a quick pop in to say hello.

On the crisp front - I'm definately a prawn cocktail person, but not those ones that Mr Linekar advertises.

Happy Birthday to HLS - hope you have a great day.

I'm looking forward to the show from Hay and the stories - not read all of them on here but the one's I have have been amazing.

    Cheers

    Hay Hay it's Chris Evans!!

Sorry, I've had that in my head all day!

I can't imagine how the judges have managed to choose the winning entries for those stories but I'm looking forward to hearing them all.

I was just thinking this week, when Chris mentioned Sir Tel, how much the breakfast show has changed. What with star guests and all, it's so alive!

Crisps! Have to be the cheese and onion ones in the blue packets! Anything else is just wrong although I was persuaded to buy some roast chicken ones recently and they were much nicer than I remembered!

Right, best go, I think I'm needed to spend more money on a child! It's never ending!

    Hay Christoph!
Heard most of the show this morning and had a big smile when Noah came on after me having a very slow start - thank the little man for his contribution which always brings a smile to my face. Sounds like Hay is going to be awesome - spray vinegar on chips - genius! I did think how a tiny pretty little town like Hay copes with a festival this size - and who knew it was for 2 weeks!

Good luck with the show tomorrow - how exciting for all the kiddies - and I agree - who a judge can choose when all the ones I have read have been brilliant.

Right not hear really - but about crisps - crisps and dips over choccy anytime!

    Happy thursty thurdsay everyone

Hi Chris. Did you get your icecream? We are coming to Hay tomorrow to see you but were gutted that tonights interview was sold out. Any chance you could say hi to my husband Steve Arnold when you are on air tomorrow as he has been a great support this year as I have had a mastectomy and I am going through chemo at the mo. Any chance you could sign our book? Lol Jill :)

Dunnit Sezza! Assignment No. 6 all typed and done and dusted and submitted. I'm really, really enjoying doing this course - learning loads, hope it sees me in a new career path eventually, and it's also keeping me motivated on the diet front!

It's starting to feel "real" now - this assignment was about healthy eating plans, cause and effect of obesity, prevention, health issues etc.

    Love it!

Yoga tonight so Nic will have his very own space cadet when our paths eventually cross at around 8.30 pm!

    Evening each

Big bags of crisps - yummy. If you're going to eat them Chris, you may as well enjoy them. And the chips and ice cream make it a 3 course meal!

Been a gorgeous day here today but of course Sunday, when MTD and the OH are arriving, it's forecast for drizzle - wouldn't you just know it.

Just delivered the man back to his cupboard, we had a nice afternoon - him sitting pontificating about Pink Floyd and the Beatles while I strimmed and cut the grass and tried to ignore him.

Off to check out your shinanigans, back in a bit.

MTF, I like the tomato crisps too, but I usually have to have the S&V as they're the only ones left after the little boys have gone home.

Jill, a big hug to you and if Chris doesn't mention him I will - Steve Arnold you are a STAR.

WELL DONE ANGUS WINNER OF THE 9 and UNDER SHORT STORY SECTION!!

That is the scariest story I have ever read and I am still recovering from someone opening the door behind me as I was reading the last paragraph at work!

Right, just waiting for the next stories

    Morning,

I'm not convinced that it is going to be the hottest day of the year in North Kent, cloudy with wind!

The stories this morning were amazing, I've only listened up until 8:30 but was blown away by the quality. I hadn't read many online but I did read the under 9's winners story as recommended by Sezza - Brilliant.

Hope everyone is OK on this Happy Friday.

    Hi everyone:

Feeling VERY sorry for myself - at home today with a tummy bug. Horrible, horrible!

    Hope everyone is ok.

Just had to come on to say that even though I was feeling terrible this morning, I just had to listen to Chris's show. Wasn't it fantastic? I honestly felt so honoured to listen to all those fantastic stories. My favourite story, Charlotte Johnson, was second in the 10-13 year olds, but I have to say that Stable and The Death Channel were both quite brilliant and deserved to be winners.

    I love Chris Evans!

    Happy Friday everyone.

    C xx

P.S. Jill, I agree with Annie, your husband is a star, and best wishes to you in your recovery.

    Hi Everyone,

Chris, how I would have loved to have been in Hay with you. The show was fabulous and it was wonderful to hear all the stories, I too was pleased the girl (sorry can't remember her name) got recognition for Charlotte Johnson and I must add I was relieved at her thoughts behind her story. I remember when I first the story I felt very concerned for the writer but hearing her explain why she wrote the story put my mind at ease for her.

Chrissie - I am sorry to read you are poorly. I do hope you feel better soon xx You wee pet lamb xx

AF - yes I refer to those silver strands as sparkly bits because I refuse to use the "g" word ;o)) Lovely to see you on the blog, I hope you are well.

Jillygoat - really pleased you have settled in to your new home and enjoying the outdoors.

Jill - best wishes for your recovery and well done to your lovely husband for his support and care.

Re: Crisps - I'm surprised I haven't turned into one! I like most flavours but don't do prawn cocktail or tomato sauce.

Have a good weekend folks - enjoy the sunshine!

Hi everyone. Thanks for your support. We had a lovely time in Hay this morning. We managed to get there before 8am but had to stand outside the ´óÏó´«Ã½ theatre unfortunately so didn't get chance to meet any of the stars although we did see Chris Evans, Anne Robinson and Kate Humble through the open door. Thought I saw Anne Robinson going into an antique store but maybe it was my imagination. LOL. Jill :)

  • Comment number 29.

    Hello Jill

Glad you enjoyed Hay - it sounded great on the radio and it was really difficult to come into work and miss the last hour of the show.

Were Chris and Ann Robinson standing next to each other? I remember the first time I met him at R2 on Children In Need Day in 2009 I was really shocked at how tall and slender her was - in a good way tho! I think Ann Robinson's teeny tiny?

Have just had a really stressy hour trying to get boys to their sleepover, dessert finished (disaster!) and try and get ready to go out

Have now scraped out 10mins peace and quiet before i go and try to find something in the wardrobe that looks vaguely ok

It must be nearly wine o'clock, isn't it?
