Pouring down in London...

Chris Evans | 16:09 UK time, Thursday, 7 July 2011

Raindrops the size of snooker balls. I quite like though, probably a lot more than my suit jacket, unprotected and suddenly all forlorn. As no doubt Jonny and I will be come six o'clock this afternoon. Lunch is on me for the teacher to be and he is of course more than most welcome. Now, he doesn't know this but the rest of the team are gonna arrive en masse a propos 16.30 hrs. Shhhhhhhhhh - it's gonna be great.

    Hello everyone!

Aww... what a LOVELY surprise that Mr. Chris has set up for Jonny. We'll REALLY miss him - I'm sure my eyes will leak a bit tomorrow...

But - to paraphrase Edward Tattsyrup from the League of Gentlemen... "Don't worry Chris... he won't get far...!"

(By that, I mean I'm sure he'll stay in touch, rather than Chris catching and cooking him...)

    Keep smiling!

LOL Roo - having enjoyed a Jonny Huggle on a couple of occassions, I can honestly vouch that if he was caught and cooked, there's ain't a lorra meat on 'im!

    Hello bloggers,
just moved back from overseas working after 4 years to find CLP on brekky radio not drivetime!! One of the things I missed most was radio 2 and especially CLP. So pleased to see the blog is still going though, I never contributed but always lurked and I recognise a few names from back then. I'm a lot braver (is that a word?) now so I just wanted to say Hello as I have returned to an area I'm not familiar with and my 'real life' social scene is non existant at the moment, hopefully that will change soon and I would love to join one of your meets if thats possible,
    Bella x

  • Comment number 11.

    Evening all,

Well I would think Johnny is well over the surprise! I doubt they are all on their way home though. ;-)

I am looking forward to show in the morning even if it will be tinged with sadness. I would expect though that Chris will turn the show into some kind of celebration to mark the passing of the one and only Johnny Saunders! Good luck to him for his future, I am sure he will make the odd cameo appearance on the show, probably when we least expect it......

Thanks for all of the warmth in your posts in the last blog. I do not feel special only a little honoured to do the job I do. These last 3 days have been fantastic, eventually, after I got through the emotions I did not even realise that I was holding in. Still I feel in a better place today than I have been in ages.

    Keep smiling

Remember particularly Lochranza, we bought a wee jack russell pup there from the kennels belonging to the castle there? Called the little pooch Ranza and had her for nigh on 15 years! they say Arran is Scotland in miniature? hope you enjoy and say help from me!

Re the topic title... it might be 'pouring down in London'.........

......but it's nice and sunny up here in Scotland!!!! :o))

Just popped on to say goodbye and best wishes to the adorable Jonny Saunders, who will just make the most amazing teacher and his kids will think it's cool having an English teacher who was once 'that nice sports bloke from Radio 2'

I loved hearing what Father brian had written especially for Jonny's departure, and the way he said Jonny has the ability to correct, without any resentment and I guess this is quite apt for a teacher! I'd love to have had Jonny as my teacher!

Jonny, you've been a lot of fun on the radio and you'll make a fab teacher! You won't have to get up at 4am every day and will have a quarter of the year as holiday!!

Best wishes and enjoy your summer holiday!

I heard some of the show this morning and it was excellent. Did they play To Sir With Love? And if not, why not?

I'm going to miss Jonny. He's such a great part of the team. I had the opportunity to get hold of him and give him a squeeze at the Show in a Field last year. Poor chap - he must have been absolutely terrified, but he seemed to cope well.

I'm so impressed that he's going into teaching. It's got to be one of the toughest jobs going. It's certainly the most important. I seem to remember years ago that Zoe Ball was thinking of leaving the public eye to go into teaching as well but I guess she changed her mind.

    Good luck Jonny.

Am listening to the show again as I missed the last 45 mins this morning

It's just coming up to "that song" again - this morning I thought Lynne's travel report was going to be a list of all the people who had crashed this morning because they were trying to drive while the tears flooded down their faces!

Jumped over the fence from the ST blog to say hello to all and wish Jonny all the best for the future. Only heard a bit of the show this morning but the testimonies had me in tears on the way to work. Not a good look.

Have heard Vassos on 5live and while it will be a different dynamic than we are used to with Jonny, I'm sure he'll be great in his own way.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hello,

Followed Mo over from next door because I thought you might require reinforcements on the tissues front.

Good Bye to the super Mr Saunders. Such a lovely guy. Our loss is very much the teaching profession's gain. The teacher who was supposed to be teaching our Big Girl's class in September is leaving her school. When I told her this the Big Girl told me Johnny is going to be her new teacher. Wouldn't that be lovely.

    Hi All

Just wanted to add my tuppence worth re the departure of the lovely Johnny Saunders. I'm disappointed that I didn't get the chance to meet him at the CiN telethon last year - he walked past me in the corridor in a bit of a rush, and my impression of him was that he was very tall!

Loved the bits of the show I heard this morning - Beverley Craven is one of my favourite artists too and her song brought tears to my eyes. I start work at 9.30 - usually I'm in and at my desk before then, but today I was sitting in my car in the car park to hear the end of the show. Father Brian's words were very moving, and I felt quite choked when everybody was saying goodbye.

Johnny will be sorely missed - Vassos has some big shoes to fill.

Just pooping by from next door to wish Jonny well in his new career - Jonny you're going to be just great as a teacher and I admire you for following your dream. I'll miss you in the morning, especially your delivery of the Top Tenuous - if I've gotten to work early, I have been known to wait in my car 'til I've heard the TT all the way through. Father Brian's words moved me to tears this morning - it was the loveliest Pause for Thought ever. All the very best Jonny. May your new career be everything you want it to be and more.

Ok, so O listened to the end of the show, had a weep at the lovely Father Brian, calmed myself down - then went back and watched Jonny's farewell message!

Blubbed over the show this morning, aaawww just as I get back Jonny goes!!
Had quite an adventure today - went in a supermarket for the first time since I got back, there seem to be so many more products compared to only 4 years ago. Does anyone really need a choice of 50 different 'cook-in' sauces and half a dozen shades of white tiolet rolls, not to mention every colour of the rainbow as well!! Sorry didn't mean to rant. I won't even start on the car park standard of driving - scary!!
Home now and wine open, I feel safe now lol

Bye bye Jonny. As others have said you will be an amazing teacher.

Luckily I had just parked in the car park a few moment before Beverley Craven came on. I adore that song but the new words were so wonderful and I couldn't stop the tears. Had to stay in the car far longer than normal to compose myself to go to work.

Will have to listen again for the last hour with a box of hankies to the ready. I too missed seeing Jonny at CiN last year and now I have missed my chance.

Good luck and try and pop back with those lovely dulcet tones every once in a while to keep CE and Mo Stu in check!

Well... I managed to keep it together until Father Brian's wonderful words and Chris's playing of "Nobody Does it Better" and then I blubbed like a girl...! Oh - hang on... We'll miss you - thanks for all the laughs, the sport, and all the good-natured acceptance of Chris's Jonny-baiting!

Top show this morning, despite the bittersweet circumstances. x

Baggy - GOOD LUCK in the Race for Life this weekend! Jasper and I have sent a few quid in your direction - just sorry it couldn't be more. It's such a worthy cause; my mum has had breast cancer twice :-( and so I know just how important the money raised in the Race for Life is and how much of a genuine difference it can make to lives. Jasper and I did the Race for Life a few years ago - somewhere on his blog there's a photo of him looking all smug and wearing his race-finisher's medal!

Lots of luck also to the other runners.
