Hi all

I have a problem and I would like some suggestions please.

In a couple of weeks Mr bp is taking me to a 1star michelin restaurant for dinner and I want a new dress, but I can't see anything I like on line or in the shops and I am not sure what would be suitable - any ideas?

As for mesen.... Am still at 'ome off work on the sick still suffering with me bad throat infection/ fever that started around the time of the CiN gig!!!!!!!!!
The good news is me blood tests at the doctors proved not as bad as 'e feared.... and the other good news is am now well past the worst and am 70%-ish better!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone

Phew - I'm exhausted! Had someone here all morning going through some tecchie stuff. Suffice to say I'm proper excited about 2012 now. Also my new phone came this morning so I've been setting it up and exploring its many functions for the last couple of hours. Needless to say my brain is well and truly fried!

Chrissie: the reference to the offspring in their "love nest" made me smile. I really hope they enjoy a long and happy life together.

Baggy - if you can't see something you fancy in the shops, my advice would be to make the most of something in your existing wardrobe. It might be worth asking the restaurant if there's a dress code - it would be wrong to assume that jsut because it's Michelin starred you have to don a posh frock. I've been to The Ivy twice now and people wear jeans and t-shirts there! The most important thing is that you're comfy and that you both enjoy a lovely evening together.

Doh! I've now forgotten everyone's blog entries. Think I need to lay down in a dark room for an hour or ten!

Deev - good call to suggest calling the place - the suggest smart casual - which doesn't actually help that much but means I have more scope - I want to wear my really high purple shoes so need to contract an outfit around that -maybe a black skirt and purple top?

And it's got to be something that's comfy to sit down all evening and EAT in. I've eventually learnt (the hard way!) ... just because it looks nice and is comfy when standing, after a few courses and some vino colapso, tight is not a pleasant experience!

Have a look on line Baggles - I used to get most of my Goth garb from online shops (via the auction site marketplace) - masses of black/purple/corsetty type things with batwings that will go fab with purple stilts.

CG: that's lovely about their choice of how to get married, and yes, you will all have a great party to celebrate!

Pen: oooh, it must be a bit of a shock when your daughter gets married without telling anyone. I would love to be there if/when MsS gets married, but I would totally understand if they just wanted to get married without fuss.

I wish I had had MORE fuss, but when I was 19, a small wedding was what I wanted.

and i too have not been feeling christmassy at all.
i usually have the tree up as soon after the 2nd as possible..
(got to get birthdays out the way first.)

but this year it is still in the loft along with the ten or eleven boxes of decorations ( not all of them go up i hasten to add)( i love christmas really)but today i felt a bit better after a good walk through scrunchy leaves on the dog walk.

had to go into our metropolis today to do some reverse shopping..and it seems all the nutters are out in their cars. we have a fair amount of speed limits over here but i was behind a lady who thought that 30 was the best number ALL the way.

My news for today is that I have ordered my Christmas pressie to me - an iPad2 + case (mind you it will have to be a joint xmas/birthday pressie - those of you with birthdays looming will know that phrase). I'm collecting it on Friday from ELH so I will have the whole weekend to play.

What a good idea about the kiddies choirs - mind you it won't stop the tears welling....

Chris - what are you trying to do to me? It's bad enough when the wives sing the song - I'm going to be inconsolable once the kids get going.

I'm a complete emotional wreck this time of year. We had the Salvation Army brass band in the High Street last Saturday. I had to walk past them four times and every time I welled up.

MTD - so jealous of your ipad2 - I would love one (or the htc tablet) but just cannot justify to myself the hundreds of punds they cost, just for what would be a toy for me, everytime I think about it a voice in my head says -that money could be better spent!

I had the day off yesterday and spent most of it at the german market in birmingham, great market , the mulled wine particularly recommended.
They have it bubbling away in a huge vat, really hits the spot with the hot pork baps and bratwurst.
My favourite Christmas movie is A Christmas Carol (Alistair Sim version), closely followed by the muppet version, closely followed by its a wonderful life.closely followed by white christmas.
Advent guess is a steaming jug of delicious German mulled wine.

Jovial - I really want to go to the German market again. I went last year but made the mistooook of making it on a Saturday and it was like a rugby scrum in parts. I'm hoping that we're not too cream crackered next weekend as it's a busy one, but I'm going to work my charm on Nic so we can hopefully get the train over on Sunday after we've taken his little 'un back to his mother.

I got my new phone yesterday (yes, the fruity one!) and I have to say, I love it! I think they put some sort of subliminal drug in it - I just can't put it down. It's magical, beautiful .... :-)

Well I'm doing a shopping trip at lunch to windsor and I will probably treat myself in the fudge shop there - the best fudge anywhere)

It's horrible here this morning, so just the day for Christmas films - Muppet Christmas Carol and.....ooooo.....The Snowman, have always loved it and when I saw the Liverpool Phil do the music live I cried all the way through!

Still waiting for friends baby to arrive - 8 days now and today is daddy's birthday, so here's hoping!

Artificial Christmas tree being purchased today by t'other, I will try to find all the decorations for it after physio - they're somewhere under the stairs...........

We have the boys Christmas 'thing' next week, all the kids at the pre-school have been learning lots of songs, but I doubt whether he'll stand there and sing when everybody is looking at him, so I'm enjoying the renditions we get over dinner!

I spent a very happy hour or two yesterday evening making some felt padded shapes either for the Christmas tree or to make a garland - some two colour hearts, christmas puddings, stockings and snowmen.
Then I watched Kirsty's Homemade Christmas and what was she making..... a fabric garland of hearts.

Have a lovely day, all, and if your hair isn't your own ..... wear a tightly tied headscarf or your 'syrup' will be in the next county!!!

I am sure that there are lots of things I should comment on, but I am so tired my brain has turned to mush. For most of this year I have been twiddling my thumbs, while bosses left and they decided what to do with me. Now I am so busy, I don't know if I am coming or going!!!

Christmas Films - I have to confess that I haven't really watched many of the films that people are suggesting. But I do like Love Actually and The Holiday.

SB - he should be telling you to go home - tell him I said so. And, don't know if it will help but daughter-in-law had your predicament (re outfit) a wee while ago and went to Debenenenhams. She got a personal shopper and was delighted - got an outfit she would never have tried on by herself.

I think you can tell personal shopper your budget - worth a try. Daughter-in-law looked lovely - the shopper even got the shoes, bag and jewellery to go with the dress.

It's awful blowy here in the south, so I have my fingers and everything else crossed for everyone who has to be out and about 'cos I know its much worse elsewhere. Got family on the Isle of Lewis, so calls will be made later to make sure they've not been blown to Norway or beyond!

Missed out on the penguin-related success of Sezza - well done you! - so have to come up with something else for the advent calendar, hmmm... how about a Christmas Tree???

Annie - good point about getting someone else to choose outfits for you. I have to admit, Nic buys me some lovely clothes - they always suit me and fit like a glove, and the majority of them, I'd never have given a second glance at in the shop. In all honesty, I probably wouldn't even have ventured into those shops in the first place!

Had a really busy morning catching up with admin, bills etc, and catching up with a couple of my dearest friends down in Suffolk. I need to cook a spag bol at some point this afternoon too or else there'll be nowt on the table for tea.

I'm laughing at Deevs heading out to the garage in the Hi-Viz vest. I know what you mean - it's been light for what feels like about forty minutes today.

Now, I must be the only person on this blog who has never seen It's a Wonderful Life. I really want to, but I've just never caught it. I bought the Christmas Radio Times yesterday (other listings magazines are available, apparently) and it's not on this year either. Every other film you can think of is on, but not that one. I'm destined never to see it, I reckon.

PS: i survived the trip to the tumble drier!

Havent seen it either but I did catch a clip the other week think it was on a channel that rhymes with "dive". I am bit funny about films cant seem to sit still long enough and afford the concentration to them they need I sort of wander off and get bored.

Thanks Barmy - we're all ok hopefully - still haven't heard that youngest is home safe.

Redd - I was once (and never again) on the boat from the mainland to Stornoway across The Minch. Apparently the Highland Seer said that the only person who survived that crossing was someone with red shoes. Now, who said recently they had red shoes??

One of my neighbours has been calling for their cat for a while, better check he/she hasn't taken refuge in the garden and better take a torch...

Oooh Annie and Redd, I know that crossing over the Minch *very* well. The old boat - the one without the stabilisers! - was a nightmare. When my brother and I were little (many moons ago!) we used to run up and down the deck playing hide n seek with the other kids. Then it was time for breakfast and playing 'chase the plate around the table' as the boat rocked and rolled. Luckily the sides of the tables were built-up to stop plates and their contents spilling onto the floor! You had to get used to it or starve, and I decided not to starve!

These days it's much more civilised, mugs of tea are always available and the stabilisers work! It's just a bit worrying when a big wave hits the side of the boat and the "boom" echoes around the boat... Having said that, I wouldn't want to be on the Minch today, even with a pile of red shoes!

Right, off to find that cat...

Youngest son home safe thank goodness.

Annie, think I must have been on that old boat without the stabilisers - was truly awful.

My Brother said he almost died on a ferry back from Belgium once because it was so choppy. He might have been exaggerating but you wouldn't catch me on a boat on a choppy sea! I get motion sickness travelling on a train!

Right nearly home time, hooray. I'm off to a friends tonight for my tea and a girlie gossip.

just been checking down the posts to see that your all safe and sound ,and pleased to see that you all are, phew!!!

Thinking of you all north of the border , it must be frighting and hope it gets better for you soon.

Gail , I'm with you on OH job ,my mumsold neighbours did the same job ,were gone most of the night and only got a couple of hours sleep then they were out again ,very brave men .

Xmas movies ...Pola Express..Miracle on 34th Street...Jack Frost .with Michael Keaton...A Christmas carol..and Rudolph the movie..and loads more ,love em all , and I'm going to try and watch most of them while I'm off over the xmas break.

Chris, you have got to stop playing this Military Wives song so often on your show. I can't get any work done. Every time I hear it my eyes fill with tears and I am compelled to sit and listen quietly. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on edge and I find it a moving and emotional experience. This morning (Monday 19th) you ended your show with a schools version and I was forced to stop my lorry as I couldn't see for the rears. There is No Way that this song will fail to reach the Christmas number 1 spot. It's just too good. I have got my copy twice.
