Six Sleeps And Counting - Everything.

Chris Evans | 11:47 UK time, Monday, 19 December 2011

The number of cars on the road (diminishing), the number of shops opening earlier (increasing), my calorie intake (let's not go there).

We had a full on Christmas Day on Saturday. Especially brilliant because of the live Strictly Final. We went for a pub lunch (turkey and all the trimmings) for fourteen before returning to shout at the telly for the rest of the night. How the judges didn't give Harry a perfect forty for his show dance I'll never know !!!

But deserved he was, and deserved he did win. Hats off and tough luck to little Chelsee as well, one of the myriad reasons that has made this year's SCD the best - ever!

Would I do it next year if asked???

Mmmm.

They say you only regret the things you don't do.

;-)

    Morning Chris

I think you should do it.

I had an arguement with my sisters friends about who was better, you or Chris Moyles - I'm afraid I couldn't convince the 25 yera old market to listen to you

OMG! Chris, you would be off the scale on Strictly! Can you also have a word and get Chris Packham on there please - he could dance to "his choice" of music every week, cue lots of Smiths, Banshees, Bunnymen, Damned ..... oh yeh!

    And the dancing poodles ....

    Sorry mtd - I must've missed your guess. Have a star *

Will put a list on later of what's gone before - doing some real work at the mo :-)))

    Jilly - sorry to hear of your sad news {hugs}

    Back soon.

Christoph - if you went on SCD your excitement levels would be off the scale!!!! BUT I'd love to see you on there!

    Chris on Strictly!!!

That would be Christmas come early!!

Ok so car sorted now. Luckily was "only" the battery but still cost me nearly £70 to get fixed - could have done without that this week!

My guess for today is an ickle mousie pushing his car along!!

Right, best try and make the best of a bad day

    Hello CE & Everyone.

I don't know whether all these pre Christmas dinners are a good thing Chris, you will be spoilt by the time the big day arrives. But then on the other hand we have to enjoy life and take opportunities when they are presented to us on a plate.

YES CHRIS! You must do Stricty 2012! All those calories you burn off dancing will ensure that you are free to enjoy the festivities without the need for the gym.
I have to admit to only watching bits of Strictly because of the X Factor but if you are doing it next year Chris then I will desert Gary, Louis, Tulisa and Kelly.

PS My advent calendar guess: a window looking out over snowy fields & trees surrounding a frozen lake with ice skating ducks wearing hats and scarves.

    Good afternoon everyone,

I haven't watched SCD yet, really looking forward to it though, I missed it as we were at the work Christmas party on Saturday night, really good night had by all.

I think you would be fantastic on Strictly Chris.

Sorry to hear your sad news Jillygoat. X

My guess for the advent calendar today is - A String Vest (think Rab C).

    Have a good day.

    Afternoon

Chris - it would be fab to see you on SCD!

Sorry to hear your news Jillygoat xx

Sezza - Things can only get better for Christmas!!

Deevs - sounds like a fabulous weekend was had by all! x

Everything is now about bribing the boy to be good with threats of santa not coming this week - he's just promised to eat all his dinners in return for opening his present from his 'girlfriend'!!

I'm still suffering from a sore throat (no other cold symptoms) and today have woken up with a sticky sore eye - maybe t'other will have to do all the driving over Christmas!

I also realised this morning that as we're staying in this country now I can upgrade my phone........early Christmas present to myself!!!

Advent guess - still a Candle please!

    Afternoon each

Chris - go on, go on, you'd be great on Strictly. Have to say, I voted for Harry but Chelsee was excellent too.

Did a very elegant triple salko on the black ice outside the house this morning but I managed to get the car out and did some work - that's me finished till January - yippee.

Hope everyone is safe and well.

    Back in a bit. xxxxx

  • Comment number 9.

Just had a thought - Chris!! What will you do if they don't ask you!!! Will you be devestated? ;-)

Annie, you take care out there!

Ebbs, thanks for the good wishes! I'm still threatening my boys with Santa bringing coal but at 15 and nearly 13, I'm not sure it's having the same effect!

Gail, do I really have to think about Rab C?

MM, What are you doing for Christmas? Will you have to cook?

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 10.

    AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

What do you get a 9 year old boy (who already has EVERYTHING!) for Christmas?

    x

  • Comment number 11.

Annie-take care on the ice up there.

Sezza-yes, I'm going to cook Christmas dinner but only for three of us, any more and I would be in a panic, used to enjoy organising larger gatherings but those days are gone. I'm in a huff over my shopping plans for this week. I was going to an online shop as T**sc* said fresh turkeys would be available from the 20th, now they say 'no longer available for pre order' . So it's off to the Co-** or I*el*n* round the corner.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 12.

Deevs - our 9yr old loves Transformers - unfortunately they cost loadsa money.

Maddy, I headed for asda today, got to their carpark and gave up - good luck.

Sezza - think the 15yr old and 13yr old might be winding you up re Santa.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 13.

Deevs-I found that when they reach a certain age and have everything then cash (or maybe a voucher for whatever store would interest them) is the answer.

    MM xxx

  • Comment number 14.

Annie-I can park my scooter right by the shop doorway, could take it inside but have never done that since the time I dragged a stack of Christmas games along with me, reversed and dragged them back again. Luckily the staff were amused and it caused much laughter.

  • Comment number 15.

Maddy, what a great way to get your Christmas presents!!

  • Comment number 16.

Thanks for the toy tips. I'll have a word with Nic and see what he thinks. We're trying to get away from the "easy option" of computer games and I guess that if we give him money it will go straight to something of that ilk.

Time to switch this contraption off for the evening, but first I can reveal that today's Advent window is ...... an ice skating dog!

    Have lovely evenings everyone.

    Muchos amore, and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

    Deevs
    x

  • Comment number 17.

Deevs, what is the 9-year old boy into?

I tend to buy slightly obscure things like outdoor gadgets if they're into that sort of thing, books - you can't have too many, Rubiks cube,

Alternatively, if it's a child you will see lots of, you could make up a voucher book with things like a trip to fly a kite or a baking day or film night

Oh, thinking of film night, you could make a film night hamper - DVD (could be cheap old-school film that you want to introduce him to, pop corn, snacks, drinks etc

Will keep thinking but any clues would help!

    Sezza xx

  • Comment number 18.

Oh, or boy2 has recently got into model making - the old style air fix ones come in all sorts of types from plane to trains to star wars!

The kits are graded so you could find one for the right age group.

I have seen a really good selection at the big hobby craft shop in chelsmford if you have the same thing near you?

Or also a radio controlled car - one he could make and play with his Dad maybe?

Coo, s'good spending other people's money!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 19.

Sezza, you've just reminded me - youngest son has got for his 11yr old and 9yr old nephews a Christmas present which helps them make their own videos. Haven't a scooby what it is, but he was really excited about it.

If you're interested Deevs, I can find out for you.

And I'm sure there's a radio controlled car which runs up walls.

Sezza - could we be consultants??

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 20.

Oh, and by the way - Alexander McCall Smith's books for children are fab - our 11yr old loves them.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 21.

I suppose what I'm trying to say for the 9-year old's present is think outisde the "gift-wrapped" box.

Don't got to the toy or game shops, look elsewhere - even the electronic shop -M*plins is good as it has little kits of things to build that flash or go buzz!

    Good luck

Annie, transformers used to drive me made - they would transform one way but never seemed to go back to what they were!

Maddy, is that you and Bingo and the future Mrs Bingo? Good luck with the turkey hunt!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 22.

Oh Annie, I think that could be my dream job

    Christmas Shopping Consultant!!

We could get everyone's list (and credit card!!!) and go shop!

Baggsy me not do the wrapping though!

    Sezza xxx

  • Comment number 23.

Oh Bums Sezza - you got in first with the wrapping. I've still to wrap grandchildrens' pressies.

Lego stuff goes flash and buzz - grandsons love them. Particularly if they've got an elastic band attached.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 24.

Last suggestion Deevs - Skylander. No, don't what it is but apparently I've got it for 9yr old's Christmas present, via daughter.

    Still to wrap it Sezza.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 25.

Sezza, Annie I could join the partnership as i quite like wrapping and have just done some of mine - what I object too is the knees and back hurting while i spend my time huddled over each gift to get the wrapping pretty!

    Luv

    Sus xx

  • Comment number 26.

Susan, over many years I've never quite got the wrapping posture. I love the pretty paper, sparkly string and little bows but, really, the cracking knees and aching back spoil it.

Absolutely exhausted, waiting for a phone call, and in desperate need of my tea!

I'm organised!! lol All pressies wrapped! New bloke coming round Thursday, cos I don't need to panic...famous last words... I've forgotten what he looks like! lol

Hope it stays mild as they say it will do, and I can get down to Mum's this year!

Deevs, you are welcome, and it was lovely to see you! x

    Roo and Jasper {Hugs}

Wrapping... I stick the bows on when I get there...they always get squashed or fall off!!

  • Comment number 28.

    Evening all

Long time no type, someone stole my diary and filled it with things to do other than blog. How very dare they? Anyway, I've managed to find a few minutes they'd not accounted for and having finished my wrapping (good tip re the bows JG, I gave up with them years ago having not thought of your idea!) I thought it was time I came on here and wished everyone a merry and safe C word time.

I'm just about getting into the mood for Sunday after an evening of belting out carols last night, but I really wish I'd got myself a bah-humbug type hat for work. All my festive cheer goes out the window as soon as some stroppy customer rings up and objects to our fairness at this time of year policy. Greedy gits, that's what they are. Anyway, only 4 more days of it to go until they switch to "it's New Year don't you know?"... Any excuse ;)

Hugs to all in need (and I'm sorry there wasn't enough free time to go back to whenever I last reported in and catch up, so just grab one if you need one and more if necessary, you'll know who you are)

Blimey O'Crikey blinky flippin' eck, Chris.. you'd do Strictly?

Well blow me down wit a wet feather. All I can say is hurrah, I'd pay good money to see YOUR paso doble. Not that we've not seen it before, like, missus.. I'm thinkin' of you on that that football pitch on TFI, the last time I ate a chipolata wit any amount of enthusiasm..

I'm also thinkin' Dawn French. She'd be fab.

An' Gok Wan. Don't know if 'e can dance but it'd be interestin' to see HIM frocked up for a change.

AND. Hows about Will Carling? There's a chap wit a shimmy or two fightin' to get out if yous are askin' me.

Ah go on, Christoff. You will, you will, you will...

    SCD,

Yes why not Chris,go for it and it would be a fantastic way of keeping trim.then you wouldn't have any need for your trips to the gym.

Hope every one is on track for the big day ,not log now eh!!!. I managed to have a catch up yesterday on the blog and I see that {{{hugs}}} are needed for Roo and Jasper ,and Sezza, hope all's well in the Sezza house hold and boy is still well and thriving .and then the car :(( think you need a {{{hug }}}too.

Brain seems to be addled lately so have been trying to have some early nights so to recharge th old batteries ,a reason for looking forward to the weekend as Idon't go back to work untill new year...Bliss..

Right off now, so take care all and stay safe out there.

    Morning all

Feeling all christmassy at the moment - I love the Fairytale of New York.

News in the TD household is that the OH is taking me out for Christmas Dinner.... As there is just the two of us we don't usually bother with all the trimmings so imagine my surprise when he suggested it last week and the next surprise was that the chosen restaurant wasn't fully booked...

Only 4 more days at work until I'm off for the week.

gotta go - advent calendar guess - a bell.

    Morning all

Thanks for all the hints up above for the little one. A brief overview - he is Mario and Dr Who mad (been told NOT to buy either of those as "she" is getting them all for him!), he has absolutely no patience whatsoever (ie Nic would end up making any models/robots), books - he has loads but hardly ever picks up a book. He is into his DS, his Wii and that's about it. We're trying to get away from those types of presents as we suspent he spends far too much time glued to his DS/Wii as it is. Oh, and if anything comes out in the year that he wants, he tends to get it straight away. He also has in his room (apparently) a telly, dvd player, games console etc.

    Hmph!

In my day I had to wait for my birthday or Christmas, or save my pocket money!

I'm heading into town in a minute so will pick up a catalogue from Agoooos and seek some inspiration.

Back later. Oh yes I will be!

Good Morning Bids, Mtd & Deevs.

Very mild here today. Actually I wish it was a bit colder because I am having a bad hair day and I want to wear my hooded scarf. Going to wear it anyway.

Off for a second blood test soon, it's a sign of getting over the hill when there are so many medical appointments.

My advent calendar guess: a glass of champagne.

Baggy - I am that 25yo market and I would choose Chris E over Chris M ANY DAY!!! M just gets on my nerves!!! (we have him on in the office so I listen under duress lol) - E on the other hand when I've chatted to him on the phone and in person he's so friendly and genuine - he makes you feel like he's your best bud and he has the time for you. (then again I'm sure you know that hehe)

I'm back at work properly today having had Friday and 3 hours of Monday off (long story to why it wasn't a full day), been to a wedding and took part in the Christmas Production. I also was lectured at like a 5 year old - and told that I kept interrupting. Our Sidekick's Mum was twisted anything I said on the phone on Sunday evening to the point that when I had to speak to her yesterday I kept my answers to one word each time - or as short as needed to be for example "I have work that day you need to speak to CJ". (Somehow she thought it was strange that I have work up til Friday.......)

    Anyway back to work :D

  • Comment number 35.

    Morning all!

Ok, someone's out to get me! Walked into the office today to find the power off!

to paraphrase Noah, "Is it Friday yet?"

Deevs, subscription to Dr Who Adventures? Kids magazine I think fortnightly so a reminder of his gift will drop on the doorstep regularly!! It comes with "wonderful free gift" every month!! Free gifts are worth every penny you pay for them but they don't half clutter up the house they are sent to!!! ;-)

Maddy, hope the blood test goes well,

G'Han, smile and rise above it!!

Laters - off to fiind out which are the dodgy Christmas lights!

    hey all

I have a 35 year old who loves transformers

Also - I took my 35 year old and my 52 year old dad to the doctor who exhibition in earls court, and we all had a great day out - maybe a weekend down south and a trip to the exhibition would be good for a present?

anyway guess for later - a christmas monkey with a cup of tea (yes I am just looking at things on my desk!)

Baggy - My brother is 23 - he bought the original cartoons of Transformers on DVD. Me and my Mum had the choice of Inception on Anytime or Transformers cartoons - we started watching Inception but my Mum got confused - should have stuck with Transformers. Me and Our Sidekick watched the movie version the other day and I texted my brother like 5 times is about 10 minutes with questions like "Is that character an Autobot or a Decepticon?" and so on - I think he was annoyed with me by the end.

We're off to see Sherlock 2 on Thursday :D

Christmas Guess is a christmas tree with snow on it :D

  • Comment number 40.

Oh you lot are wonderful but I think he already has a subscritpion to Dr Who magazine as he often refers to it "arriving" and being there when he gets home from school. And as for the idea of a trip to London - Baggles, lovely idea but there's more chance of me spending Christmas Night in a stable in Bethlehem!

Town all done. Got some more "surprises" for NYE - just got to wrap them now!

Today is my last day of normal stuff - tomorrow it's "start cleaning the house for Christmas", maybe defrost the freezer (it needs doing big time!), and generally make good for when my man gets home from work on Thursday evening for 11 glorious days off together. I can't wait!

Maddy - hope all goes well at the docs.

Sezza - I used to work in an old building in Sudbury and every time we had kettles and fan heaters on at the same time, the entire building tripped out. At times, I wasn't sure if I was a PA or an electrician!

Not around today, doing my HGV Driver CPC Training (at work hence the reason I can come on for 5 minutes whilst having my soup), so in keeping with today's theme, my guess for the advent calendar is - a digital tachograph card.
