My final attempt to get away

Chris Jackson | 11:15 UK time, Friday, 8 January 2010

London Luton AirportNow trying to get to Berlin via Luton.

06:45 Walk to bus stop.

06.55 Bus arrives.

07.05 Arrive at Metro station. Board train but we don't move. Stuck at red signal. Bad omen?

07.12 Train sets off for Newcastle.

07.40 Arrive Newcastle Central in time to catch an earlier London bound train than planned. Looking good?

07.47 Call producer Andy who is joining me in Darlington to see if he can make this train. He can't so I'll have to get off in Darlo and wait to get planned train. Oh well.

08.10 In Darlington gagging for coffee so I exit through new ticket barriers to get to shop. On way back to platform barriers reject my ticket.

08.15 Sweet talk inspector to let me through.

08.18 Andy calls to say his taxi was late so he'll miss our train.

08.30 Do radio interview with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Newcastle's Alfie Joey on my progress. We've spoken every day so he's my new best friend.

09.05 I watch our planned train depart. Next one in half an hour but Andy's phone has packed in so I have no idea where he is.

09.09 Station information boards pack in. No idea if train is due on time.

09.20 Andy arrives.

09.30 Train arrives but electronic door release packs in and no one can get on or off.

09.32 Doors open. We board. Train leaves.

11.00. South of Doncaster. Still hope to make our flight.

Could anything else possibly go wrong? Find out here.....
