I spent last weekend in
Each year it hosts a festival dedicated to celebrating the music and crafts of this area.
There are folk artists painting native landscapes, blacksmiths hammering out curtain poles and door snecks and musicians of all kinds from solo concertina players to barber-shop quartets and old timey bands.
Most of the people dress up in costumes from the time of the Civil War and in fact, there is always a civil war re-enactment with old guns and cannons blasting away and men fall down in the sunshine.
All good fun as long as you don't think about the many thousands who actually died in one of the bloodiest wars in history.
One of the finest bands playing there was the .
They specialise in camp music from the Civil War and played some great stuff on fiddle, flute, fretless banjo, guitar and percussion.
The percussionist was particularly interesting because most of his instruments were made from bits of cow: cow's shinbones and ribs for his rickers and a cow's jaw (complete with teeth) for a sort of guiro sound. You can see a few pictures of them .Ìý Ìý
I bought one of their CDs and I'll try and play a track for you in a future show.
