Really lovely to meet Mark and Krista and get that American voice into the mix. The density of their writing is impressive and their attention to detail in both lyric and melodic phrasing is something to behold. The mix of age and experience was what made the week for me. Neil had it just about right in his choice of 'inmates', and hearing the women's voices in three and four part harmony was a rare treat.
The week also gave me the chance to hear other's writing styles and methods, albeit rather hot-housed, but I feel a little less self-deprecatory after the week. We, all of us, are our own worse critics and, left entirely alone, will often drive ourselves up the wall. For my part I now have a week in my own studio where I shall be putting a band together.

Before the Darwin week I was very apprehensive about this but the week went so well that I feel much more laid back about it, more musically confident. All in all it was a real privilege to be there. I've done several things like this before but none quite as successful as this.

A massive thanks to Neil, to and especially to all my fellow inmates.
