Martin Simpson on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Four
Martin Simpson writes:
Just removed myself from the banjo in order to compose this missive.
It's been a fantastic summer. I'm still buzzing away after playing with the band, first atÌý Cambridge Folk Festival, and then at the Queen Elizabeth Hall for Topic Records' 70th birthday celebration.
It's an extraordinary feeling for me after so many years of playing solo to put together this
fantastic bunch of musicians to articulate the sounds I've wanted to make.Ìý So I'll thank them again - Andy Cutting and Andy Seward, Danny Thompson, Jon Boden, Keith Angel, BJ Cole and Nigel Eaton.
I can't wait for the next spasm. Ìý
´óÏó´«Ã½ Four will be broadcasting highlights from the Cambridge Folk Festival set on Monday 12 October at 7.30pm.
This last weekend I've been teaching a guitar workshop which is hugely enjoyable. I had a great group of people asking me to explain what I do, and there is no better way to understand what you do, than to have to explain it.Ìý I also get to play for hours and hours, which is good in every way. I'm working on about 9 different pieces right now, and thinking in solo, trio and band terms for arrangements. Ìý
Having the different options is very expansive. I am always trying to play a little better, and I'm practising whenever I can on various instruments...who knows what'll come up next?
