Cornwall to run its own railway?

Graham Smith | 16:03 UK time, Thursday, 16 February 2012

I have to confess I never knew that Cornwall had a . The final words of the report say:
"This is a unique opportunity to consider making a step change improvement in Cornwall's railways to deliver greater local authority involvement through the new Great Western franchise and Government's devolution agenda."
No-one can say that those in charge at County Hall lack ambition. Perhaps a new branch line to serve the stadium?

No need - the main line is only a mile from the stadium just need to build a stop at tomperrow!

Perhaps now we will get the job finished, and continue the line up to St Just, where it should have ended originally, we will have to come up with something to replace the leaves on the line, being the cause of hold ups, owing to the shortage of trees in the county. I bet a new Cornish song would soon follow, "going up newbridge hill coming down". Something along those lines LOL.

Good idea if that can do it properly, would be good to see some improvements to the network, I'm sure Brunel wouldn't mind if we changed something he designed decades and decades ago!
Not sure about St Just, Young Cornwall building a new line on that scale would need significant investment. Perhaps if our MPs lobbied for some compensation for being wholly left out of HS2 would could have money to invest in new stations Threemilestone and Pool seem obvious choices and perhaps if we're really lucky we could reopen the old branchlines...

Cornwall could be taking on a little too much here, OK while everything is going all right and everthing is OK.
