Radio Festival - Your Opinions Needed!
I'm just about to catch a train to Glasgow and will hopefully arrive there tonight in time for the start of this year's . After two years on the sun-kissed lawns of Cambridge, the festival is back in Scotland and most of the events will be happening in the City Halls or next door at the Old Fruitmarket.
As ever, these are challenging times for the radio industry and I'm sure we'll rehearse the familiar debates about the "threat or opportunity" posed by internet radio and international podcasting. (Incidentally, you can catch ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Scotlad's new telly advert for our themed Zones here on our new-look website.)
This time last year much of the festival chatter centred around Channel 4's plans to launch new DAB radio stations. These have yet to appear but I suspect we'll hear more about the future of DAB over the next couple of days.
Oh, and I'm actually a panel guest in one of the sessions. It's on Wednesday morning and I've been asked to talk about the media's obsession with celebrity gossip. Is this true journalism? Maybe...but is that a good thing?
