Rugby

Hi Level Uppers,

Well, I hope ur enjoying the Boy Gamer's Blog. I thought that I would write about rugby because it's so fab! I mean to watch or play. It's so much better than football and that seems to be all that鈥檚 on TV. Does anyone agree with me? Unfortunately the rugby season is nearly over, but it's been awesome. It's just such a great feeling when you completely nail someone (but make sure you do this with all the correct safety gear and with a teacher or coach). Rugby has got a position for everyone. Whether ur small, tall or in the middle. I play second row, which is a position for a runner and a tackler and a tall person (also it's good because you get involved in the scrum).

I鈥檝e been playin' different games during this term. I鈥檝e had a really good match the other day (with one of the local schools, it was a good game.Their scrums were amazing and really strong, but we put up a fight and did not get put down. They had two really fast lanky lads but we had a trick up our sleeve too - our prop was soooo fast and he ran straight through about ten people! They started down wind and away from the sun, so they had the advantage. We held up well for the first few minutes, keeping our heads high, but after a poor scrum the opposition seized the chance and made for a straight run. They then managed to score a conversion. This was followed by try after try and it was clear they were dominating. Luckily I managed to take out one of the good runners but they were still in the lead (yes, although I don鈥檛 look like it, I can tackle).

Half time was then soon upon us and, after a rallying speech from our captain, we were back on the pitch with a vengeance. All of our energy and effort meant that they soon faltered and twice our backs made the try line. Both conversions were missed but our spirits were high as a win was now in sight! Then both teams raised the game to a new level with minutes to go and, bravado high, we were ready. But a severe blow came when our captain was taken off after an injury. Without his words of encouragement we had to work even harder. The end was nigh and our game was beautifully finished with a try in the last minute. A good game for both sides. I did not get the ball much but I made some good runs and a few tackles.

Also we had the England scrum half come to our school as it's his old school. He said how much things had changed since he鈥檇 been here and he even left his rugby shirt behind. It's been a real rugby week and to top it off there is a house vs. house sevens tournament this half term and I have to help find team members! I am really nervous about playing too. Has anyone got any training tips or tips on how to choose rugby teams? Have you guys had any experience?

By the way, if any of you have any rugby related questions, please give them to me and I will try to answer them as best I can. Or have you had any great rugby moments or are just interested in getting involved? Or is there a match you would like to have a good old chin wag about? What ever your question is, post it in the comments box and I'll do my best to answer it!

Braders

PS - I will send in pics of my match and a report when I can.

PPS - Check out the red button! The Gamers have done a new Raven film and I think its brill. Enjoy.
