MOBOs 2007

Post categories:

Mistajam | 00:14 UK time, Monday, 17 September 2007

So the MOBO 2007 awards are finally upon us. The UK's first awards ceremony set up to celebrate music of black origin celebrates it's 11th year this wednesday. Confirmed guests include 50 Cent, Robin Thicke, Kano & Craig David and more - hosted by Shaggy and Jamelia.

As usual, there's a lot of controversy surrounding the awards show - this time mainly because the lack of of a Soul category. Artists such as Jill Scott, Omar and Nate James have been very vocal over their unhappiness of this and it seems for all the good the MOBOs does, someone knocks it year after year.

Now, this tuesday on my show I'll be looking at the MOBOs and I need your input. Make sure you're locked on to 1Xtra from 7pm.

Just to get the juices flowing now, I'd like to know your thoughts on how relevant you think the MOBOs are to black music in 2007?

THEY MAKE THESE LITTLE AWARDS FOR THE SO CALLED BIG STARS TO WIN...I.E BEST RING TONE AND FASHION ICON......
THE MOBOS HAVE LOST TOUCH WITH WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS, I CAN UNDERSTAND THEY HAVE TO MAKE MONEY, BUT THEY SHOULD GIVE WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS,

I don't think Beyonce should ever be nominated since she snubbed them a while back. She doesn't even come to the UK to take part in it. Please stop adding to her already huge ego

I THINK ITS A SHAME THERE ARE SOOOOO MANY HATERS...THE MOBO AWARDS ARE ABOUT CELEBRATION,RECOGNITION AND TOLERANCE ...SO WOT IF BEYONCE DOESNT COME OVER TO TAKE PART...SHE'S TALENTED...AS FOR BEING INTO MUSIC AND NOT KNOWING THE LINE-UP...BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS THEN...PEOPLE SHOULD LEARN TO BE ACCEPTING AND STOP HATING!!!

Whatever happens NOBO’S (currently being said in all offices! — NO we aint going to the moBO’s)
so to save time iGoss are just calling it the NoBo’s.

Question Has any one actually bought a Ticket for the NoBo’s(MoBo’s) @ 02 centre?

After last years Calamity with $500 tickets and the food you were
being served was Nandoes and did we spot lambrusco in some boxes!!.
Does any one really want to be paying $350 per seat to sit at the back of 02centre ?? or if your brave enough
and want to look like a Prize Muppet! Why not just buy a 5000 table for 10 at the front where the cameras can see you
so everyone can laugh at you when they are watching the shambles live on the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

MOBO's is now nothing more than a corporate event - which to be reflects the state of the "black music" at the moment - its gone corporate. Back in the day it was about the music - reflecting real life, but now im bored of tunes of nonsence lyrics, and US artists talking about how much money they have, for example Kayne..once very talented now reduced to whining that he didnt get an MTV award. What has it come to.. where is the innovation, the hooks etc.. Im dont begrudge anyone making any real money, not at al, but the price you pay is the dilution of the most influencial musical genre of all time. So from a personal point of view i dont care about the MOBO's, I just care about the music, and the sad state its in today.. I just hope the next gen who are out there struggling to get heard get their time .. trust me they are out there !!

The MOBOs have lost touch with what they set out to do.
Some of the artists appearing have lost touch with reality!
Nominations are for the most part a joke, and some of the winners, more so.

MOBO organizers, go where you're supposed to go with what could be an important award show for black British music.
    OR
Find another way to make money!

Right now, the word on the street is that the MOBOs is beginning to sound like a joke.

The one thing I like about the MOBOS, like alot of British award cermeonies is that it doesn't get caught up in the glitz, glammer and mutual appreciation back-slapping that the cheesy American award ceremonies do. The award givers aren't size zero annorexics who have obviously spent thousands on their outifts - lets face it, the MOBOS is, if nothing else 'real'. The problem I have is that not enough good music gets recognised, not enough positive music gets recognised and the same old people keep appearing! The Reggea award winner this year was a joke, and it's a very annoying song too (in my humble opinion). I thought the speech made by the woman from 'The Boyhood to Manhood' organisation who won the BeMobo award was spot on! I couldn't stop clapping - about time someone spoke the truth and gave the moronic lyricists we have today something to think about!!!!! All though i'm sure most of them switched off halfway through!!!
