Huhne resumes public engagements

Michael Crick | 10:05 UK time, Tuesday, 22 June 2010

Chris Huhne resumed his public engagements last night, less than 48 hours after an expose by a Sunday newspaper forced him to announce he was leaving his wife of 27 years, Vicky Pryce.

Addressing the Gladstone Club in London, the climate change secretary was "calm and jovial", says my source, "at ease and comfortable."

"It was incredible."

Speaking and answering questions for almost two hours, I am told Huhne behaved as if nothing had happened over the weekend.

William Gladstone would have approved of the coalition government, Huhne insisted.
"Gladstonian retrenchment speaks to us today."

Huhne also revealed that senior Lib Dems had conducted war games before the election, in preparation for possible negotiations with the Conservatives in the event that no party got an overall majority.

But in the event Lib Dem negotiators were surprised that the Conservatives conceded ground to them to the extent they did.

DID TORIES ALSO WAR-GAME - INFORMED BY MARTIAL ARTS?

I understand that, in martial arts, the trick is to defeat the opponent (LibDems) with the force energy of his on-coming. Of course Dave appeared yielding! Nick should have dropped languages and done martial Arts.

Would you refuse to be operated on by a surgeon that smoked? I know the policy of the 大象传媒/TUC/Labour opposition to the coalition is to expose the Lib Dems as hypocrites and the Conservatives as some kind of sadistic cult who exist to gratuitously inflict pain and suffering on others. HH's rant in response to the budget her party's incompetence forced the coalition into, was designed to appeal to Lib Dem MPs who they actually believe will turn traitor and vote with labour against the coalition thus bringing about the fall of the government, another election, and the final downfall of our economy into a place where the Greeks will be able to look down on us from a great height!

But for the TUC-Labour party and their sycophants and groupies that will be a small price to pay for the defeat of their tribal enemies of old.

So the guy had an affair! So he's split up from his wife! But in the eyes of the Tory haters his real sin is that he had the effrontery to continue doing the job he was elected to do and defend the government his party is an important part of.

    Unforgivable (of course).

'My guiding rule is that in any story there's usually something the politicians would prefer the world not to know. My job is to find that out.

    Or.....

Next in the news, 'According to chicken entrails...'

PR as news. Opinion over journalism. No one reports and everyone edits. Unique.

Speaking of resumptions and value, how is the newly re-elected MP for Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath delivering so far for his money?

'Mr Brown recalls his father quoting the words of Martin Luther King: 鈥渆veryone can be great because everyone can serve鈥.

Now saving up to be fashionably late to make a big entrance may look great, one guesses, with today's media set-up, but as to serving....?

Hope your source doesn't have a Glasshouse.
