I've challenged visitors to this site to submit their personal credo in 272 words or less -- since that's how many words Abraham Lincoln took to deliver his , one of the greatest speeches ever given. Today I post our bloggers' attempts to express their values and beliefs within that word-limit. If you are interested, provoked, challenged, impressed or infuriated by what they have written, add a comment and say why. Exactly one week from now, the credo attracting the most comments wins a book prize of my choice. Needless to say, the views expressed by the entrants to our Spirit of Lincoln competition are their views, not mine or the 大象传媒's. The following is The Christian Hippy's credo.

I believe that the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth, Oliver Cromwell the greatest of British leaders a man who believed the Bible to be the inspired and infallible Word of God and who lived his life accordingly and believed that others should do the same, was right when he along with others banned Christmas, though it had only limited success.

He had the vision to see Christmas for what it was; it had turned into a pagan and worldly festival of riotous living which had nothing whatsoever to do with the birth of 鈥淚mmanuel鈥.

One only has to look at the pagan symbols of Christmas, evergreen trees, holly, mistletoe, Yule logs and a fat man dressed in a red suit being transported through the darkness of the night sky to recognize it for what it is, an ungodly, man-made creation to satisfy the lusts of sinful man. The Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost

Christmas is no were mentioned in the Bible and this alone should alert Bible believing Christians to the significance and authenticity to the celebration of Christmas in their lives, it has no meaning whatsoever for them and they shouldn鈥檛 let it contaminate their lives by being caught in the trap of it, Jesus wasn鈥檛 even born at this time of the year and nowhere in the Bible are we commanded to celebrate the birth of Jesus but we are commanded only to celebrate his death and resurrection as commanded, this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. I BELIEVE!

Billy - If you want people to check out Cristianity don't mention a connection with the barbaric ethnic cleanser C......!!!

Cromwell is still a figure of hatred in Ireland, his name being associated with massacre, religious persecution, and mass dispossession of the Catholic community there. A traditional Irish curse was malacht Cromail ort or "The curse of Cromwell upon you". This saying is still occasionally heard in parts of Ireland.

wind you neck in!

Billy has had the guts to reveal his personality here and to stand up for what he believes with some courage.

And who is going to say he is wrong about Christmas?

I think John Wright might have had his conscince pricked because on his website he wished everyone a happy Christmas with....you've guessed it...

...a big fat man in a red suit drinking a bottle of [captalist] coke!

love yah John! ;-)

Don't you think there are much more important things than how we celebrate the middle of winter and lengthening days. We all had a booze up at this time of year long before 4BC. Why don't Christians go off and have their day in their way in April or whatever arbitrary day they choose and leave the rest of us to celebrate as we like?
and BTW I do wish people Happy Christmas

fair point GW

But I prefer to be in the middle of your Christmas party and after the turkey, crackers and fun, asking you (with a twinkle in my eye) why you are wishing people happy Christ-mas if you dont believe in him.

I know the Way the Truth and the Light Mark,

For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

The worldliness of the world needs to be resisted by all Bible believing Christians in the face of opposition from the carnal mind of the pagans in the godless society in which we live, Christians are called to stand against all forms of evil and oppression and to separate themselves from the world even though they may be in the world, we are not of it.

Christmas is a form of paganism created by pseudo-Christianity, who don鈥檛 observe the Lord鈥檚 Day which is of the God of CREATION but observe Christmas which is not of the God of CREATION, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Christmas is an unholy day

Your silliness MARK only makes my CREDO stronger though it may not be popular and it may not have many comments, but truth is not a popular commodity, By mercy and truth iniquity is purged:
