History may start bad and ends with colorful joy. This is the day that world will never forgot because Pope is going bless Holyroodhouse and ask God to shower his mercy to this historical event.

I can forgive the poor grammar in the posts below, (perhaps English is not your first language) but I find it impossible to forgive the Pope or the Catholic Church for their stance on basic human rights issues, such as contraception, education and the cover-up of sexual abuse crimes against children, and young adults.
So the Pope is going to bless a building, and beatify a long-dead convert to Catholicism (on dubious grounds, even for the Catholic church)? How does this address any of the important issues of today?

I wonder which social problems in the UK the pope will be addressing ?

Thanks for the schedule, it looks as if on Saturday, the 18th of September, the pope will be having a nap in London while the protest marches from Hyde Park Corner to Parliament.

There doesn't seem to be any big public rallies for the guy at all and the small ones are pay-per-view.

The Pope isn't visiting N Ireland or Wales so why is this information only in the N Ireland news section or is it hidden somewhere else.

It's probably fitting the details of the Popes visit are banished to such a small corner of this website. I personally feel his visit is a mistake, but I expect the Vatican and Pope are in a world of their own, unable to take in the damage this Pope and past events have done to the Catholic church.

I hope if anything this visit brings into focus how redundant catholicism now is in the modern world and how damaging it has been in the hands of those guardians the faith has been entrusted to. In terms of religion causing damage to the people its supposed to nurture & protect, it's right up there with fundamendalist Islam. I hope people feel they can still be privately spiritual/religious or turn to a gentler take on christianity like Anglicanism instead, because at least for me Catholicism is a dark , teinted , warped ideology by those in authority who are weilding control of it

To whom it may concern - this is my 'message in a bottle' my hope; my prayer; whether because I am half German, or because I am an active Catholic and Christian intercessor, I would like to be chosen as a companion for Pope Benedict; to travel with him. My own German Grandfather was taken by the Russians when my Mum, now in Heaven for over 20 years, was about 12 years old. Pope Benedict reminds me of my German Uncles; maybe a distant relative?? I would love to be at his side praying constantly for his well-being and the success of this trip, AMEN. Of course, I will be doing just that wherever I am! But I only have the option of the Vigil and I really would like to attend a Mass. Westminster or Birmingham are nearest... maybe I can be sent a ticket and get through security in time???

This all seems very unnecessary. Why on earth did Brown invite the Pope? Or was a clunking "hint" dropped that an invite would be required, if Brown wanted to visit "himself"?

There's a lot of misfortune around this visit, and I seriously hope that the Pope will be unable to come. Why on earth not beatify Newman in Rome?

This visit is costing taxpayers millions of pounds. One newspaper has revealed details of the luxurious accommodation that some of the Pope's entourage will be staying in. I'd much rather see the millions go towards helping the flood victims in Pakistan.

I'd always thought the the people of the UK are generally very tolerant of people who religious or non-religious views are different. It looks like this tolerance does not extend to Catholicism nor to the Pope. There have been a great many things wrong about how many things in the Church were managed in the past but all the good things tend to get completely ignored. Catholicism taught me much of what I think is decent in my life including for the information of newlach a great personal commitment to love and generosity to the third world including Pakistan. Initiatives led by my church have already resulted in hugh church collections for Haiti, Pakistan etc. I accept that a little humility from our leaders would set a better example but please do not ignore all the positives of which there are many

Find it very hard to believe that someone who covers up really terrible crimes, and by doing so enables them to continue ruining peoples (childrens) lives, can ever be able to use God's name to bless anything or to forgive sins.
If this pope gets into heaven I dont want to go..
