Watson Writes... (part two)

michaeldunlop_boots.jpgWe're getting ready for the second practice session tonight and I'm looking forward to getting onto the grid to bring you the live coverage on the website. Hopefully it won't rain!

Just been talking to Michael Dunlop, who says he's not fussed what the weather does tonight as his Tuesday practice went well. But I did discover that he wears two different coloured boots - one orange and one blue. He told me it's a fashion statement, but the truth is that he can acquire one (and I don't know how)Ìýfrom the Belfast Motorbike Show and the other from the Dublin Bike Show.

Also bumped into a North West fan who told me that Steve Plater made an unscheduled pit stop during Tuesday practice when he had to call into a petrol station to borrow moneyÌýand refuel. I find this very hard to believe. Please, can someone confirm?

Embarrassing moment of the week could well be for Stephen Thompson. I have been told by a very good source that, while showing the newcomers around the circuitÌýon Tuesday, . Very much a case of do as I say, not as I do. Please, can someone send us a photograph?

FInally, I would also just like to say happy anniversary to timekeeper Sally Best, who's here for the 60th time. If you've benn coming to the North West longer than that, let us know.

    Hi Stephen

Was speaking to the Incident Officer this morning, John Blair, John had to give Steve £5 to get a top up at a filling station up a bit from Mill Road Roundabout.

    Stephen,

I must say your coverage of the NW200 is spectacular again this year. I think you're super and would love to invite you for a wee sip of Harp round the back of my caravan in Juniper Hill after events are over this year. I have a a large static van with full colour TV with Sky +. Your a wee cracker and I want to make sure your get the full benefit of North West hospitality.

    Cheers,
    Brenda Over.

Hi Stephen, I am John Blair the incident officer in question and can confirm that Steve Plater did run out of fuel at Mill Road Roundabout on Tuesday night.
I met Steve the previous Thursday when I collected him in Belfast. Perhaps he recognised me when he ran out of petrol, and asked if Trolan's Petrol Station was still open. I assured him it was. As he had no money I gratefully donated £5 and told him it would bring him luck. I think it worked, two wins from two starts.
P.S. This is just a one of, however if there's any other riders competing in Europe that would like to take me along, I don't mind carrying a couple of spare £5!
