Double Olympic champion Sebastian Coe and triple gold medallist Alexander Karelin both went into politics after sport

After the boycotts that dogged the Olympic Games in the 1980s, many athletes argued that sport and politics should not mix but several Olympians have dabbled in the world of politics over the years.

Britain's double Olympic champion is the most obvious to spring to mind, while won three wrestling golds and one silver before being elected to parliament in 1999.
