Individual blog entry

Prepare for an invasion of Ouch cyberspace .....

Hello, my name is Bipolar Works and I am very pleased and excited to be joining the team of top quality bloggers on the Ouch guest list.

I would describe myself as a bit of a mental health and disability rights activist, as I have experienced bipolar disorder (manic depression) for all of my working life. I have ended up in the psychiatric ward on a voluntary basis and been discriminated against in the workplace on more than one occasion.

But I have had enough of all this employer discrimination, management incompetence, and bullying. Each time, I have been eaten by a snake, I have worked with the mental health professionals to get back on track and return to work or college to acquire further and higher education qualifications to beat them at their own game and bounce right back.

In my blogs I will be talking about my experiences of bipolar disorder and the mental health system in the UK, and how, by knowing my rights and negotiating with my employer I have managed to stay employed. I may also comment on current affairs and present a few case studies of mental health discrimination (but this is only suitable for those that enjoy horror stories).
