I don't understand this, either. I once experienced a problem holiday, and the others on the same package did a whipround to send me on a submarine trip, for some unknown reason. Apart from the fact that I can't stand live fish (although dolphins are alright if I'm not in the water with them) the only way into the submarine was down a ladder. My sister had a great time!

Dolphins are highly intelligent and also gentle graceful creatures.
Disabled children and adults are also often very intelligent, more so than they can express themselves because of the ignorance they have to encounter.
Disabled people always benefit from swimming as do everyone but the affection that they show and receive to dolphins is rewarded by happiness, therapy, and a general sense of wellbeing along with the memory of having acheived something and they laugh 'with' them and not 'at' them.
What is wrong with that?

Yes, dolphins are intelligent gentle etc. Good for them.

I'm disabled and, without wishing to toot my own trumpet, indications are that I'm reasonably intelligent.

What in the name of sweet shuddering Ceiling Cat's son do these two things have to do with each other?!?

My best 'achievement' memories are of getting a job, partying with friends, that sort of thing. Flipper is not my business.

Show me exactly where it says that either 'only disabled people seem to speak dolphin' or that there are no disables people who dislike animals.

Can't? Thought not. Yet another sad and deliberate misinterpretation from the jokers at Ouch then.

batsgirl, don't you know? The disabled are different from "normal" people. We're not allowed to be angry or mischievous or complainers or to have a bad attitude or to be unintelligent or just plain average. We must have some "special" trait that makes us somehow "transcend our disability".

That's because the sole reason for our existence is to make "normals" feel good about themselves, either from reading clips like this or from taking the kind and gracious largesse of Lady Bountiful and her condescending crew.

Funny, though: it's really hard to live your life as a human being when you're stuck up on a pedestal being an inspiration to other people. I suppose we're just not good enough to be human beings.

Actually some disabled people can't afford to have a bad attitude. People allways remark on my chearfull dispositon and thinking of others but this isn't selfless. If i actually started getting bitter, twisted, it wouldn't stop becuase i there's more than enough reaosn to remain a misribaler git forever. As the great one says "Once you walk down the dark path forever will it dominate your destiny"

As for the kid with dolphins. AGain it's easy to be dismisive of such things but lets face it, most kids love dolphins (and other animals) Disabled kids get the rough end of life all too often so why not let them have somethign tha'ts only point is fun. Some would say it would be better to use the cash for better chairs, computer equipment etc but that just reinforces the beleif that the disibilty dominates life when it should be the other way.
