No - I am stuck in the office, trying to get to the car to listen. Speak to you in a mo.
Mae Tron
I never listen until the following morning... :|
Well, I've checked the Webcam, and you're not wearing a Santa suit ....
Give us a clue!
Okay, okay. I've had a closer look at the webcam. Are those mince pies you've got there, Eddie? On a sort of rack in the foreground. Something's up .... there. Though not sure what.
Is that what's different?
Eddie,
Did I hear you asking if I had an opinion on Carbon Ofsetting?
Don't ask! But if you insist, I'm surprised to learn "the Government" don't favour carbon offsetting. Didn't I hear them singing the praises of trading in carbon credits? Of course these are a new kind of Government-printed MONEY, tradable licenses to pollute. Well, they would wouldn't they?
Yours Aye,
ed
You are talking about handbags?
Mary
No seasonal interview with Jack Straw?
Mary
You haven't mentioned the Blog!!!!!!!!!
Naughty naughty (as opposed to Naughtie Naughtie)
anything different about tonight's programme?
Er - there wasn't an email to go with it? (Have to admit I was wrapping pressies and wasn't always paying as much attention as the programme no doubt warranted .....)
You did an 'advert' for the upcoming content on PM prior to the 5pm news, rather than going straight into the news?
no because I was busy blu-tacking cards while I listened but I did notice with sinking heart that the threatened interview with Jack Straw did not feature. The awful thought assailed me that when you said 'festive interview' what you meant was that you were doing the interview now to put out at some time over the festive period. If this is correct I may haveto boycott the show just that once; I can hardly abide the man on a normal day-to-day basis and the thought of him polluting my Christmas is just not bearable.
You did an extended trailer for the upcoming content on PM prior to the 5pm news, rather than going more-or-less straight into the news? Or is that normal? (Oh dear).
But generally, no.
I know: It wasn't actually you presenting the show, but your clone (courtesy of South Korea)?
There were more time checks than usual and you sounded more 'on mic' -- or perhaps that's cause I was listening on FM instead of DAB for a change.
Yes, Eddie, you've sacked your quarter past and quarter to headline readers.
I suppose everyone is busy posting jpegs, so you've got to do everything else yourself?
J
Oh yes! That's it! I thought there was something odd at the quarter past 5 time as I use(d) the newsreader voice to time my bus (I lead an interesting life) but Edwina's dulcet tones still did the job.
And the Musical Number went down well I thought.
Aaaah
Well done to Belinda and Judith then !
I must admit, even having been told, I don't remember. I was listening, honset.
No pray tell?!
Judith (14) - well done! Sacked though is harsh. Poor Susan Rae was doing the job of two people in reading the PM AND 1800 news. So we thought it would be a good idea to let her prepare for the 1800 by having me read the 1715 and 1745 headlines. SHOULD be back to normal service tonight.
Madmary and Admin Annie: the great thing about the Jack Straw interview is that it'll be on over Christmas...
and Confused of East Sussex (9)...I may have to start a new thread about THAT!
At 5:30am when I was still blearily folding up the futon and listening to Harriet Cass talking about cheese, a bright-tailed and bushy-eyed Eddie Mair wrote:
Madmary and Admin Annie: the great thing about the Jack Straw interview is that it'll be on over Christmas...
I read that as "it'll all be over by Christmas..." and thought "Eddie must have been taking lessons on the length of questions from certain Today presenters."
Eddie, I'm glad you haven't sacked her.
I did feel a little guilty when I couldn't remember who had read the 17:30 headlines and I hoped that my apathy/forgetfulness hadn't led to redundancies at the Beeb.
Eddie (20), I had a think about the Jack Straw interview and thought maybe you'd made an mistake and should have typed Frost. Much more seasonal! Definitely more festive I would have thought!
Mary
As PM was coming on air, I was driving with great care through deepest Lincolnshire in a pea souper fog, to collect our bass player for his birthday treat: sitting through a folk night ('beardy weirdies' as he calls them) while getting slowly inebriated with no worries about driving home afterwards.
He caught the last ten minutes of the programme once safely in my house, awaiting the dishing up of his favourite veggie meal, my aubergine-and-mozzarella bake.
'Oh, that's him isn't it?' quoth the bass player, a lifelong Radio Four avoider.
'Tell me why you're always going on about it....?'
I fear, not yet a convert, then.
The blog will 'get' him though: I know way too much about too many things, and the froggers are my source!
Fifi ;o)
Yes, last night's programme was completely different because normally I'm in work but last night I was singing carols
Judith (22): Given that you were the only person who noticed the switch in news-readers, then don't worry about your forgetfulness and apathy being a problem!
I think it can be spun in a positive way: That we are more concerned with the message, rather than who is giving it. Hopefully something the Beeb will keep in mind when renewing Jonathon Ross's contract.
Belinda - nice one re JR - couldn't agree more.
SSC - I too read eddie's message re the Jack Straw interview as' all over by Christmas'. Would that we had been right!
(26) 鈥淕iven that you were the only person who noticed the switch in news-readers鈥
I, too, noticed Eddie reading one set of headlines. Just haven鈥檛 mentioned it until now.
Belinda (26), Dr H (28)
Me too.
I haven't noticed anything useful; for a long time.
madmary, I really did think you meant David Frost yesterday, but it was late, & I'd just driven home through pea-soup as well!
@ The Stainless Steel Cat (21) - The cheese thing was interesting if I recall correctly, cheerful chat about the death of the cheddar industry at an ungodly hour of the morning. Bl**dy Europe and the blinking apathetic UK government (for all things rural at least)
*rant over*
I have been up since 5, I am allowed to rant :)
I've been up since 5.30 too - what a load of early-rising froggers we are, to be sure!
I've also been up since 5.30 - I missed the shipping forecast though, poo! I imagine it probably would have read "Humber, Thames - Don't know because we can't see it"
