The PM site is a terrible mess...or is it my browser?

I'm not new to the blog, Big Sister. I was one of the first till it got taken over by a rather exclusive few...plus I usually have more important things to do.

I amended the reference to "Sun readers" when my ancient browser (ha!) wouldn't let me submit and so I posted my regards for Ed on this thread instead - but apparently the original got through anyway. For "Sun readers" read (surprisingly) "misguided and uninformed"...

And sorry, Ed, "you da man" was meant in the most flattering sense. Got bored with the back button BTW - especially if I'd looked at any of the pix. Why not use "target:_blank" and have them open in another window? I did worry for the elves and their massive task. My pic is still not up (if I could find it anyway).

Thanks Fifi and all who obviously DO have something on the right of their screen who have suggested it's my browser...(Organic indeed, my mother couldn't find her way round either and she spends all day on the web with bang up-to-date gear)...
Trouble is, I'm a Mac user who needs a system upgrade that requires a second mortgage.

However, I do look forward to the gallery being accessible from the PM main page, as tentively promised by Eddie this evening. Also, perhaps, a new "Special Report" - the last of which was in July (as my mother pointed out)...

    Love to you all xx

I just wanted to say how pleased I was with Tony Blair's speech about tolerance.

Of course we should not tolerate intolerance. I...erm... ooh... no, hang on, there is a serious point in here somewhere... what am i meant to tolerate again...?

Oh yes. And another thing he said was about the Equal Opportunities Commission looking into the Muslim faith for its treatment of women. I hope the Equal Ops also look at Old People. Some of them are dreadful with their out-of-date views on "women in the home" and "knowing their place".

I can't tolerate Old People like this who force their opinions and bigotry on me. The little old lady next door is a racist and that's a fact. She told me.

She's obviously not British, as the Brits are tolerance personified and the sooner we get rid of this undesirable element the better.

I'm glad he's all for tolerance. and don't get me started on dictators - I can't stand them and we should invade and impose our way of life on intolerant peoples as quickly as possible and then they'd learn what tolerance was all about!!

erm... no... hld on, that wasn't it....

Suzie Sue (21) Glad you could make it back (what with all those important things you do) & I would be really sorry if you felt the blog had become an exclusive ghetto. There is actually a concerted effort to avoid frightening off newcomers by appearing cliquey, and the welcome mat is rolled out to all. The blog has evolved from the PM basics, probably not up to the standards you or your mother would prefer, and Lissa is anyway still working hard on it all for us.

The clarification of your comment about Sun readers makes you no less of a potential troll on this board, where the misguided and uninformed are in a tiny minority. The rest of us appreciate the opportunity we are offered here to share a whole host of different perspectives on current affairs, as well as whimsy, without the usual snarking found on other blogs/forums.

SUZI - don't go, people expressing naive views gives others the chance to inform them. Some of us don't 'know' enough to comment intelligently on many of the topics raised here. This is the sort of arena where you can hear what people are saying, untinted by rhetoric or the need to convert. Outside University where else are you going to get developed threads of argument and counter argument?
By reading any newspaper? NO, but by listening to people who assimilate their experience into their opinions.

"In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, most often in the form of posting inflammatory, off-topic, insulting, or otherwise inappropriate messages."

Sometimes you'll see someone say 'don't feed the trolls' , meaning if you ignore the offender they will usually go away. I haven't yet caught up with today's other threads so don't know if it is appropriate to charge any recent posting with trolling. Sometimes it is just due to the person posting not having caught the flavour of the community.

My fluidity could be called inconstancy, one SO found it entirely irritating, & no longer being able to have a stimulating conversation was about when I upped sticks!

Belinda, I don't even 'know' you, but don't go. Some people are very busy with important things to do & very high standards so they haven't got time to spend with us even if they do think we need educating!

It's all here for those who missed it:

Hope he sticks to Radio though.

Chris Jarvis popped back from Tunbridge Wells with some awful news.

He's in a one bed flat up there and has had nasty letters posted under his door from 'Would be' Christians, explaining in underlined words that they have noted a number of people venturing in and out of his flat and he still has time to Repent.

He said it's okay for me to mention it to 'Eddies Froggers' and would like to make it clear that any to-ing and fro-ing are merely one or two cast members ie: nothing that needs to be repented!

Johnnie (37) that really is horrid, I am disgusted with Tonbridge Wells.

In his book "They F*** You Up: How to Survive Family Life" Oliver James has some very interesting things to say about people who are Christian fundamentalists, suffice it to say it is more about personalities than faith. It is only anecdotal evidence but it described someone on my MA I know well worryingly accurately.

Theology being the minefield that it is, I shan't say too much, but I would moot that such folk entirely contradict the philosophy of Christianity. You could give Chris a sparkly kiss from me if it won't start any rumours!

What I want to say here is that any nastiness that has gone on there doesn't seem to have really spilled over and that some people will only contirbute to that kind of issue and then go away, so Belinda - and anyone else who may be tempted - please don't leave: Just take a deep breath and wait for the flamers to move on.
