STRAPLINES!
Come on! We need new ones. We still get a regular supply from some people (you know who you are) and we'll use them...but we need more. In case you don't know what we're on about, straplines are the comments at the top of the Blog page - today's is from Fifi - "When we break the news, it stays broken."
Just email them please to pm@bbc.co.uk and they'll go in our file and will appear like clockwork. You know. Like everything happens round here!
Should I start a discussion on gambling? The big supercasino decision is imminent. If there's demand, I'll start a page - or if you prefer, pull up a stool at The Furrowed Brow.
So, is that where you go in the wee small hours of the night, Mr. Mair? The Casino?
Didn't your mummy tell you what a waste of good money that is?
A strapline for you Eddie,
Spring is on its way!
I bet you'll start a discussion on gambling.
I bet you will start a discussion on gambling...
Didn't you get about 500 just a few weeks ago? What on earth did you do with them all, did Lissa pack them away somewhere when she was flitting?
PM - we can fix it for you, if you don't complain too much.
What about the several hundred straplines we all posted last month? We can't have used up all those already surely, 'cos there seem to have been some recycled ones recently. Or do they have to be emailed and not just put on the blog?
How much, Fred (2)?
FF - Bet you a fiver he doesn't
Another sinister change to the ethical base of our society in the interests of business greed and taxation, imvho.
The "unlimited slot machines" being a clear sign that business needs have overridden cmmon sense and restraint - these highly addictive machines are what will bring the owners profits and cause the users misery.
And await with surprise as the Wonderbra, I mean Millenium Dome, is named the new Supercasino. Yet another corrupt decision by a morally bankrupt government.
Hm, Eddie, methinks you're being a tad sexist here. Annasee was the one to make the first wager .....
------------------------------------------------------
Incidentally, did anyone else hear the Liffey PR man this morning putting his foot in the proverbial re their new product? Claimed it was just 'for men', then there was a lot of stick from female listeners who like the Black Stuff and were well miffed .....
Incidentally, do you think their target audience is Ken Livingstone?*
(*In case you didn't hear, the new product to be launched is Red Guinnness - The very thought of it!!! EdI and BnB must be in a state of shock.)
OK it wasn't last month it was 9th jan:
/blogs/pm/2007/01/twenty_thousand_blog_comments.shtml
There are over 100, there must be at least some useable ones!
Oi, Miss Termair! That's what the Furrowed Brow is for!
Given the grumbles we see from people struggling to keep track of all the current threads, particularly after they've been away for a day or two and want to catch up, I think it would be kinder to limit yourself to one new thread per day.
You could use it to suggest Furrowed Brow topics that might feed into the day's PM, and to start some trivial debate that could stay on the daily thread.
Thanks for using my strapline by the way. I'm quite proud of that one.
* blushes horribly *

Oh my. I appear to have been moderated for mentioning the red version of the black stuff.
Big Sis (10) I wasn't - his was the first when I logged in. Sorry Annasee. As you'll see I've started a thread.
Gambling/Supercasinos: What wider effects will this measure have? i.e. as someone who doesn't gamble, apart from the occasional 50p spent on trying to pick up a fluffy toy with a metal grabber, will this change anything about my life at all?
I'm not asking the question in the "Oh who cares? It doesn't affect my life!" mould, but more of a genuine interest. Will there be an effect on the economy in general? Are there any measures in place to help gambling addicts?
Eddie (7) How about a couple of references to the frog (rather than blog) from you on the programme tonight?
Big Sis (10) I doubt our Eric was being sexist. It's just one of those occasions where my post appeared before Annasees', Eric comented, and then Annasees' appeared later...
Belinda (12) Good question. Like you, I don't gamble. I've been into a betting shop once (for work related reasons), never play the lottery, don't play fruit machines, etc. I do see some of the industry because of my job... Some of our biggest customers are in the Gaming industry, and the tradeshow I was at last week was the International Casion Exhibition in London, so I saw all the interest from across the EU in gaming and gambling. It's scary to see the level of "enticement" that there is in the industry for people to play, and to play for longer. I guess it's like any other addiction for those who are "problem gamblers". I just hope there's a lot of thought put into how to prevent or at least reduce the risk of people gambling their lives away...
Big Sister
Annasee may have posted hers first but Fearless's appeared first. That's why I wanted to offer him a bet as well.
Eddie/Fred:
I think I actually knew that. But legs are there for the pulling, aren't they;o)?
But, Lord Mair, I didn't mean to offend, honest Guv! You have never, ever done anything of which I'm aware which would indicate sexism.
Hope that sets the record straight.
Eddie/Frog Prince:
What has happened to the link to the Paddy n Eddie show? You know, the one where you had to keep rerecording? It isn't in the Entries with Audio.
Did Paddy get you in a headlock or something? ;o)
Fifi (12) but I quite like the multiple threads.........:-/
International Casion Exhibition Ffred? Sounds interesting?
Fifi (12) I actually quite like having lots of threads....:-)
Blacksheep (9), what kind of strange, singled-breasted Wonderbra have you been trying on?! And all that scaffolding must dig in terribly!!!
Hi Eddy,
How about:
"Mair news for the masses";
"www.bbc.co.uk slash blogs slash, oh damn it ";
"Not for Fig Lovers";
"Pure, Dead Magic" (apologies to Elaine C. Smith);
"Primus inter optimos"
Sorry, run out of time to try and think of any more.

Ooops! I blame the old fast finger scenario. The show may sound interesting to some, but when you're the poor schmuck who has to get all the gear working the night before, you soon learn to hate tradeshows. At least this year we'd finished the set up by 7pm. I've been there 'til midnight in previous years. As for the show itself, it soon gets boring when you see row after row of gaming machine, all playing the same tunes over and over again... Thank goodness it's all over for another year! After being exposed to that, it's no wonder that I don't have any desire to go into a casino!
You asked for it. Don't complain if I'm coming up with duds.
- Preaking Mews.
- The world at sixes and sevens. At five.
So what is wrong with the straplines from 9th Jan??? :-)
I will give you 5 to 1 that the new Manchester super Casino is not ready when they say it will be.... Hey wait a minute it will be private funding with no government input, so that should speed things up, make it 2 to 1.
Has Wembley stadium changed its plans again so it can take advantage of the new gaming act, if so I bet the new Super Casino in Manchester will be open before Wembley.
BTW is it "Supercasino" or Super Casino"?
or maybe "Manchestersupercasion"?
Strapline
If you have had a 'mare of a day, have a Mair of an evening.
Eddie (14) : We know that you sometimes frog during the prog.
But today you appear to have frogged 3 minutes into the 11 o'clock editorial meeting!
Didn't anyone notice that all your contributions during the first 5 minutes consisted of: "Hmmmmmm.......?"?
Perhaps they just assumed you were catching up on all that lost sleep from 2 nights ago. The dribbling definitely helped.
;o)
Fifi
They're all lovely but if you don't email them to PM@bbc.co.uk - they won't go in our little file. Sorry!
Okay Eddie, I have just emailed these to you:
Never can resist a copywriting challenge!

Well, phooey, Eddie, now you tell us!
So we're going to have to cut and paste all our effusions, then.
Sigh...
(er.. this may be a double post - frog v slow)
Frances (34) - what was it about "Just email them please to pm@bbc.co.uk and they'll go in our file and will appear like clockwork. You know. Like everything happens round here!" you didn't follow? :o)
Eddie (35):
At 04:32 AM on 31 Jan 2007, eddie mair wrote.....
Why weren't you in bed?
Crikey! Yeh, Eddie - you really haven't cracked that sleeping thing, have you?...
I think the lack of sleep has made him extremely cranky - that and the idea of running for President, or whatever it is. Everyone seems to getting told off for "stuff".
Gambling where do we start !
I have been attending GA since November 2006 and i am in my recovery mode at the moment.
I can finally say 'I am a compulsive gambler'
i have been gambling and for may years it was fruit machines until February of last year i join an online gambling website and OMG addictive can not describe this website. I have been complaining to this company since November 2006 as this company did not have a responsiable gaming policy and also would bombard my email with offers to get me back to the website and also phone calls offering me cash bonuses.
i have been complaining to this company and as you guess they have been giving me the run around since last year. i have replys from the software company, marketing company and yet to date no response from the gaming operator who is based in Netherland Antillies.
My best advise to anyone who feels they are a compulsive gambler is get advise from people like GamCare, Gamblers Anonymous because these are the only places who understand what a compulsive gambler is and offer help and advise.
Good luck everyone from a recovering gambler...
Stay away from these so called community gambling websites or any type of gambling because the only winner is the gamling operator and not the person gambling.....
