Following our item about King Alfred and
his cakes/bread on Tuesday night, Big Sis sends this:
"I thought you might like to see our lovely windows, depicting the story of King Alfred. The first window shows Mrs. Alfred, in a high dudgeon (and looking a bit like Judy, imho!), the next shows scattered cakes, along with some geese (a reference to another part of the Alfred story, as you may know) and the third shows the King himself.
These windows were commissioned by the previous owners of our Welsh hideout, and are a lovely feature which provides a lot of fun."
Big Sis - thanks for sharing, they are wonderful! Are they as dark as the pics make them look?
I love the interpretation, with little cupcakes, Judy-type lady, glowering Alfred, honkin geese.
I think, btw, I may have got the goose reference wrong, but thought there was something I'd heard about Alfred and geese many moons ago. Ah well, it wasn't my design anyway!
The windows look lovely in the morning sun and cheer us up whenever we look at them. Hope they cheer you, too, Eddie!
King Alfred the Great - windows.
Big Sis, thanks for these beautiful photos....what a coincidence ;o)
Witchiwoman (1) maybe they are they burnt?
But where is Ragnar Hairy Breeks?
(See, I was listening!)
Fifi
Beautiful windows BigSis!
Fifi still hasn't sent me the 'quality' version of the froggers song - so until I get that I can't proceed.
However Fifi has been pre-occcupied with her jokes circle and has just sent me this from 'Dear Mrs Trellis of North wales:-'
------------------------------------------------------
A man is walking home late at night and sees a woman in the shadows.
'Twenty quid . . .' she whispers.
He's never been with a hooker before, but he decides what the heck, it's only twenty quid.
So they hide in the bushes. They're going 'at it' for a couple of minutes when all of a sudden a light flashes on them, it's a police officer.
'What's going on here, people?' asks the officer.
'I'm making love to my wife,' the man answers indignantly.
Oh, I'm sorry,' says the cop, 'I didn't know.'
'Well, neither did I, until you shone that light in her face".
Eric’s back? Must be behind the front part of him...
Just had this sent in from a ´óÏó´«Ã½7 boy. It's not ´óÏó´«Ã½ material so I've posted it in the froggers audio files.
It's William Shatner doing a voiceover, however the producer in charge of the session decides to give William a few pointers. Not a wise thing to do :-( a little like Peter Rippon telling Eddie how to present a programme.
It's MP3 but give it 30 secs to load up.
Jonnie (9) - how fantastic is that! My respect for WS (that's Shatner, not Shakespeare) has just risen tremendously......so funny.
Lovely pix Big Sis - I'd love some stained glass in my home - I even went on a stained glass day course once, but I don't think that's long enough to learn how to revamp your entire property, do you??
BigSis -
Just realised how sniffy my first message sounded - sorry! They are beautiful, I was trying to imagine them fully illuminated and how the colours would look - ochres, ornages, umbers etc. I love coloured glass (and have a 'thing' for big windows) and these are truly spesh.
Big Sis - fab pics. How amazing to have inherited them from a commission. Wonderful.
Jonnie - thank you so much for sharing that with us. I really am l(ing)ol as I write this.
Fifi - what a name, I thought I'd misheard but then the chap repeated it!
Izzy: LOL! There might be a lot of things to inherit from commissions - but I doubt it.
Fifi: Old Hairy Breeches didn't have anything to do with Alfred, from what I understand. However, I do wonder whether there is any relationship Eric Bloodaxe and .....?
Eric, I gather, was the son of Harald Finehair. I'll say no more.
They're beautiful Big Sis! How lucky you are!
Jonnie (7) Hahaha!
Jonnie(9) I really think that u should tell me what to say for this comment -just the next few paragraphs

Wonderful, Big Sis! How lucky you are.
Interesting that a SAXON King should be commemorated in Wales...
Hmmm
I do love the expression on Alfred's face.

Frances O (16) Æ? or even æ? It's the best I can do ;oþ
Re: Miss pooh bear (15)
How wonderful about the Tadpoles ... no no no it IS wonderful news -- however I can't help them out as my (SO) hates frogs and we don't have a pond ... yet :-(
Mpb (15) that is excellant news about the frogs' legs. Is there any chance that you could take a couple of photos before Monday and send them in to Mr. Mayor (note to jonnie: it is a local accent thing! "You say tomatoes, I say tomatoes" etc). I, for one, would like to see some pictures of the new frogs of the year.
H.
Clever Gillian! That's it!

Miss pooh bear (21) - To be able to watch frogspawn grow to tadpoles and then into frogs is a delight and teaches a lot about nature and life. Anybody who does not like frogs has obviously not been as lucky as you, to see them develop every day.
The picture of the froglet is superb!
