We're going to launch
The Glass Box on the world tonight. Not on The World Tonight, but on PM.
We'll have an interview with the PM editor, Peter something, and the doors will be open for business.
The feedback we've had in recent days suggests some listeners have been a bit irritated by the on-air references to The Glass Box. We've mentioned it in the run up to its launch to make non-froggers aware of the resource. Once it's up and running we'll stop boring people with it on the programme. But it would be daft to set up something like this, which we think will be really useful, and not let people know about it. Also, we know that people don't listen every day, or for the whole programme, so we wanted to get the message out with more than once mention.
So stand by for the big launch. It won't be big at all of course and as launches go it will be pretty small beer. But you have to talk these things up, don't you?
Thank you Eddie,
I commend it to the House.
How fab! Go on - wind em up! Get Valery Singleton to do a nice voiceover promoting it :-)
Eric:
By George I've got it! I've cracked the code. Your talk of 'opening doors for business', 'setting' things up, and the one which really gave it away "as launches go it will be pretty small beer".
It's really another chance to prop up the bar, isn't it?
Save the tall stool for me, please!
I'm so looking forward to your new Grass box feature. It's just the right time of year, we're all getting underway with the gardening. My grassbox has a capacity of about 40 litres which I find only needs emptying around three times per cut. Is this average? you ask. Well my feeling is that if you take the example of one mow per two week period, the grass has grown maybe to about 2 centimetres (although I appreciate this will be affected by use of water, fertiliser and how much you have scarified in the year previous) But I think ... no... it is a little above average... 40 litres. Hey I've just had an idea of a strapline for the PM Grass box.. how about 'The PM Grass box - a cut above the rest'
or 'The PM Grass box - no mow-ning here'
Looking forward to your first edition tonight. Hey you're a Scotsman Eddie.. what's the difference between a lawnmower and a bagpipe? You can tune a lawnmower! Only joking. Cut above the rest... brilliant!
Notebooks at ready!!
Eddie,
I'm going to lunch too - see ya.
And, as if to prove that even a bug can't defeat a Scot, the newsletter arrived in the Flying Scotsman today, taking only 50 minutes to arrive in Sussex.
Whatever you're on today, Eric, there's no holding you.
No no Carl !
It's a Glass Box!! not a Grass Box!
Oh dear, perhaps Eric should do a nice little feature about it later, on air. There is clearly confusion. ;-)
Well there's your lead story. The Iraqi parliament building has been bombed. Hold the front page.
Si.
Put the released detainees from Iran in the glass box together with the Admiralty brass!!
Maybe the Sec of State could act as a referee?
What will you do if the majority of comments in the Glass Box are calling for the abolition of the Glass Box?
Hmmmmm.
Fifi
Can I have the small beer? I'm on call tonight so can't otherwise imbibe.
Re 8 Oh thanks Jonnie... silly me... but then I ask you which lawnmower maker is stupid enough to make a grass box of glass?!!! Ridiculous. At least I suppose you can see how much grass you're collecting.
Eddie how big is yours?
The Glass Box - a PM on PM? Also, if T. Blair appeared on the program - A PM on the PM on PM?
Now whenever I make the slightest mistake all the many pedant froggers that inhabit the PM pond lash out at me .
However, they are all very polite so I thought I'd bring a couple of things out in the open.
I believe the presenter of PM is a MR Mair as opposed to Mr Mayor.
I also believe he presents a programme , however it may as well be computer code, which, I think would be 'Program' .
Speaking purely for myself, as is my want, I applaud the glass box idea. The 大象传媒 opening itself up to us poor lowly folk. I can only hope that you take the blind fury that will reign down upon your glass box with the sort of gravity it deserves. We expect 'changes' nothing less. When we, your humble listeners, say it's crap.. it's crap. The Glass box lives... long live the glass box. Lord Reith is stirring in his lead lined box and the storm is brewing. Watch out Rippon!
(you're not related to Angela are you?)
Fifi: that would be myopic...
Whatever you do, !

Am I the only one who keeps reading this thread's heading as 'We're going to lunch'?
Um . . . hungry now :-(

LadyP
Yes, I did type program instead of programme - I will now go into the study and take out my service revolver...
Paul, don't do it till you've sold your story....
Jonnie (15) Isn't he Dr. Mair?
I promise to listen, and to take notes, as husband is cooking the tea today. I can't promise to be this attentive in future, but good luck with it anyway.
He is the Lord Mair of Dundee.
Nothing less. Here is the evidence.
Eddie Mair - they should name an Airport after you.
Hm, LadyPen ... I've already had my lunch (a very nice homemade soup) but you've made ME feel hungry now!
Not helped by the fact that I've been to the supermarket and happen to know there are plenty of goodies in the fridge...
Argh!
* sits on hands*

* sits on feet *
* falls off swivel chair *
Ouch!

Big Sis (25) How dignified....I expect a great deal of gravitas on this evening's programme, now.
Big Sis - Are you sure? He looks more like Dick Whittington's understudy at the Whitehall Theartre, Dundee - to me. Oh yes he does!
:-)
Pardon me for dipping my little fly in your ointment, but if you're going to launch a glass box I hope you've remembered to put out something soft for it to land upon -- otherwise, you know the score, glass shards everywhere, cuts and lashes...
See you on the cushion-strategically-placed-upon-the ice at 5.
Obviously I think that Alan Johnson should be released as soon as, but I am wondering how the 大象传媒 would have handled this story had he not been one of their employee's? It is sitting high up on the 大象传媒 news agenda at the moment. Are the 大象传媒 giving it more prominence because he is a 大象传媒 journalist? Let's be clear, 大象传媒 journalists decide how to cover such a story and where it sits in the news agenda. Moreover, because of their contacts have 大象传媒 journalists engineered the situation to move it up the agenda? Whose decision was it to involve the D-G in an appeal, and make a programme on one month on? Who decided to put his picture on Nelson's Column?
Re: Paul (21)
Are you still with us? Pleaase let us know soon ?
And Vyle - yes I noticed the error of my ways (MR)
Evening PM - love the idea of the glass box - I listen whilst driving home from work and find myself yelling at you sometimes, laughing at others but wouldn't miss listening! Now I will have to try to remember and sign in when I get home! What was that about ...people who live in glass houses ....? :)
