Some time ago over a curry
with our Tokyo correspondent Chris Hogg (sadly the curry was in London, not Tokyo), I mentioned that we'd love to have something from him on the Blog. He's just sent this:
"..it was posted on the front of a pottery shop in the street next to where I live this afternoon..."
Perhaps the Japanese lettering is as non-sensical as the English wording?
To be fair though, everything is spelt beautifully, which is more than I can do.
Seems perfectly clear to me...
Storekeeper have had same same Engrish teacha as honourable self.
Si.
Great Newsletter today, Edwina. I can't disagree with a word in it...
Has Chris been back since the reconstruction? I think we should be told.
LEVY AN HIRE
Alpaca to the sauce.
Well it reads better than most text messages these days (especially those sent by teenagers), and its awfully polite.
It lost something in the translation. In Japanese it's sheer poetry.
Was there a Glass Box for Friday? I鈥檇 like to belatedly add my approval for your correspondence section, in which my own words were read out...

Lovely!
Is it just me, or if you squint a little do the red letters at the top spell "tosh"?
If it's just me, it could be the gin.
Using Google translate, an itty-bitty-bit of bard translated into German and then back to English.
"Its or not its: those is the question: Whether one 'tis, which suffers the belts and the arrows of the impudent fortune in the understanding or arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing, are more splendid terminate them takes? "
Sheer pottery!
Perky (12), It looks more like "ROSE" to me.
Hello Charles Hatton (13)! Long time no see!
So Shakespeare walks into a tavern. Bar wench looks up, sees him, frowns and says: "You're bard!"
Thank you for that Charles (13).
And Frances!

Ed I, I think you're just showing off with your comment at 10!
If we're doing Shakespeare jokes, today's Private Eye has a great cartoon. A woman (wench?) is propping up an obviously drunk Shakespeare. She is glaring at another wench who is staring at them both.
1st Woman: "Oi - you lookin' at my Bard?"
Eddie:
When o when are we going to see your name in Mandarin?
You did say you'd show us sometime, didn't you?
"belts and the arrows"
Sounds like a literary S&M club.
I suspect a comment which I posted yesterday has been sent to the Junk box again.
I suggested that the word at the top of the poster was ''BOST''. I see my attemts to dumb-down the Blog last week have failed, and I need to remind the system that 'bost' is a Black Country dialect word....oh, here we go again....;o)
Hello all you lovely froggers.
Aperitif (14) - Hi there! Yes, my contributions have been few and far between. Time pressures due to blah-blah-blah-yardy-yah-yah have meant that I can only dip a toe in here and there, mostly only to read. Anyhoo, waiting for the weather to change and all that.
Ed (16) - You're a eco-god!
Perky (12) Not sure if it reads tosh but look at the tv upside down with Derren (Look into my eyes) Browns and his trick or treat programme. The cards will reveal why every one will be a trick.
Ed (16): Those are some lovely photos, what camera do you use? [Not casting aspersions on your skill with photography of course].
Belinda (23),
Did you know that if you click any of the pictures, it'll tell you the camera and exposure data?
It's a Konica Minolta Dimage with 4M Pixels and 10x optical zoom with a further digital zoom for total 40x telephoto capacity. Less than 拢300 three years ago, and you can get better cheaper now of course from the same make. It's a good'un and does everything, but it ain't a pocket camera. Mich lighter than my old Nikkomat and half the size.
It works beautifully on 'Auto', but can be controlled as much as you like on manual.
More pics coming soon. The pheasant hen is doing fine, and gets meals delivered, so the eggs'll be well incubated.

Oh Ed, if I did, I wouldn't have asked! Thank you very much for the information.
RE hand-reared pheasants, Limpy and his wife now both come to the back door, and feed from our hands. Whose minding the eggs, or aren't they laid yet?
