    Dear Edie

I have a suggestion for Mr Tony Blair, if you are kind enough to convey it to him over the airwaves please.

I think he should go to leave in a newly and democratically created country called Iraq. I think he as done a good job there for the Iraqi's peolple and now should reap its benefits by being there, living there to gain first hand experinece of it.

    Thank you P

Yes, it's still the same picture (Eric hasn't changed the filename this time!), and the plod looks almost as though he has a wry smile on his face (evidently not yet aware of his starring role on the frog).

If Eric thinks these pictures are going to stimulate interesting, intellectual debate as to Tony's legacy, that's dealt with in another thread. However, it could be interesting to speculate on what Gordon's up to...

As Numbers 10 and 11 are interconnected, in 7 weeks time Gordon will probably be able to stay in his current flat, but will have to remind himself to use the other front door. On the other hand, with two children already, he may prefer to move into his neighbour's (larger) flat - after thoroughly fumigating it first :)

Now, here's something worth speculating about: leaving/welcome gifts exchanged between the two families.

What would be an 'ideal' leaving gift for Gordon to give Tony? What is Cherie likely to leave Gordon (bearing in mind she apparently hates him)?

The comment from Private Eye's Ian Hislop; "Reverend Dubya, from the church of latter day morons", has me in absolute stitches every time I think about it! We Canadians do political satire very well but we have learned it from the best: the Brits!
    Slan go foill.

Oh, yes, Hislop was very good on that piece about St Albion's. Mind you, he's usually very good.

I'd hate to fall foul of him. Luckily, (except for today's strapline - thank you, Marc, thought it might appeal to us newsletter types) I am a very quiet, unnoticed and obsure person. I can even go to Tesbury's with no makeup on and not get photographed.

    Fame? Bleugh!

Oh! What I meant to post about was the glorious timelessness of British tradition, exemplified by this live footage from no 10.

But be careful the BNP doesn't use it alongside the town crier.

    (Insufferable!)

Colin - translation, please? Slan = health, I'm guessing, go as in Erin go brath (sp?), foill = ????above

    health for above?

(Hmmm...I'm sure I left a comment here last night)

Still the same photo - Eric hasn't changed the filename this time :)

It could be interesting speculating on what will happen behind that door on 27th/28th June. Will Gordon stay in his flat (after all, Nos 10 and 11 are interconnected) but put up reminders to use the other front door, or will he move into the Blairs' flat (after fumigating it first!)?

Then there's the question of presents. What would be the ideal leaving present for Gordon to give Tony?

And perhaps more interesting, since Cherie apparently hates Gordon, what's she likely to leave him as a "Welcome to my husband's ex-job" present?

A joke that's apparently already doing the rounds:

On leaving, Tony seeks a job in Ikea. Previous experience: years of putting dodgy cabinets together.

    I'll get my coat...

The wonders of Google - Slan go foill = Good for you, if they've got it right. Thanks, Colin and Frances, I'll add that to my list of Gaelic phrases.

Ian Hislop: one of England's treasures. Actually, Frances, you have a lot in common with him ("a very quiet, unnoticed and obs(c)ure person"). I happen to know that this is how he conducts himself when out and about as he lives near the town where I have a number of friends. SO even served him once, so he tells me, and has him down as very unassuming.

Can we have silence on Blair? The quicker we move on the better.

Let's stop talking about him and give him the respect he deserves - none.

How about a pint of spilt milk on the drawing room carpet?

Oh how we have had an amusing time blogging about the Glass Box spillage, but then again there is 'no point crying over....'

Can we widen the shot to take in No. 11 as well; there may be more going on next door!

Am I the only one to be utterly disgusted at the flagrant waste and hypocrisy of Mr Blair in choosing to FLY up to County Durham from his morning Cabinet meeting at Number 10, make one short speech and fly straight back to Downing Street!

This is the PM that has made great strides in committing the UK to our Kyoto targets and reductions in emissions, yet he chooses not to take the train up, or even have a chauffeur drive him, but take the most pointlessly polluting means possible - a domestic flight.

And for what reason, so he could be sentimental with his constituency chums! There is no reason why that speech could not have been made in any public hall in London and all his Westminster cronies bussed in. Or if he really wanted to do it in Trimdon why didn't he schedule it for today, Friday, when most MPs spend the day in their constituencies anyway??

I can't help but feel that we haven't had enough coverage of this story. It very nearly passed me by!

Is it still 'news' when we have such an anticipated event? Or should we caould it 'olds'?

Doesn't Gordon live in the No 10 flat anyway?

So he and Sarah won't have to move.

I am still wondering whether I heard Blair correctly: did he really say that we had an obligation to come to the aid of "our oldest ally" when he meant the United States of America?

And there I thought our oldest ally was Portugal.

If I'm right, it's fairly typical Blair, isn't it: make a wild and inaccurate statement that happens to suit what he wants to believe at a given moment, knowing that if anyone calls him on it he can always say "but I believed it sincerely" and that will somehow make everything all right.

It seemed to me that whole speech could be summed up in the words "I meant well!", which are almost certainly true but really no excuse.
