SILVER: SPEECH PROGRAMME
SILVER
PM
Producers: Roger Sawyer, David Hass, Jeremy Rawlins, Lissa Cook, Fiona Leach, Rupert Allman, Liz Homewood & Manveen Rana
Writer, Presenter & Performer: Eddie Mair
Editor: Peter Rippon
"A programme that goes well beyond the news agenda and has the ability to both surprise and entertain. It is the world according to Eddie Mair and he makes it a hugely entertaining place to visit. He handles the hard news stories with conviction and the lighter stories in a deft manner that can make you laugh out loud."

I have to second the comments of the honourable judges above. Well done everybody.
So... Will there be any other stories on the programme tonight?
;o)
Oh. Were they listening to a different programme?
Congratulations, all. Very well deserved. Other hi-fi brands are available but may be less rewarding.
Well done team... a great and well deserved result for you all! No mention of the birdsong though...
Very well done to you all.
How about posting some pictures either from the awards themselves or the party afterwards?
Lawks! If I didn't know better, I'd worry that "Performer" Mair's ego would now run out of control. Well-deserved praise all. I see Paddy got a bronze for his jam spoons ...
Can you post your acceptance speech here later?
You wuz robbed - only one gold and one silver - should have been far more !
Congratulations anyway - well deserved
Did they play 'Always look on the bright side...' as you stepped up to accept it?
Did they? Hmm? Did they???
Fifi ;o)
Well done chaps. Carry on!!
Bonnie!
Excellent news :-)
Well done to Eddie and the team on a brace of thoroughly-well-deserved awards.
Si.
Now how are they going to get the inflated egos of the team (Eddie particularly) into the studio.
Well done all, keep up the "deft manner"
Wahey - fab news!! Congrats to all - yes, speeches and pics please (transcript if poss as can't listen at work and couldn't possibly wait til tonight).
Congratulations to the whole team....this surely warrants a team photo posted here ;o)
Wow - the Froggers got a mention in Peter Rippon's acceptance speech!
You can watch if you go to the Sony Awards site, register for the webcast and you can find 'slides' of each section of the awards.
But where was Eddie, and why did he not accept in person?
Well done guys! Congratulations all round. Will you be sober by the time 5 pm comes along? Would we be able to tell the difference anyway?
What I want to know is, given our key role in helping you win this award, will you be making 'Sony Award' chocolates to share with us, in the manner of those 'tasteless but tasty', Chocolate Oscars ?
And three cheers for John Humphrys standing up against the 'cult of celebrity' ! Let us hope, for his sake, that his Agent isn't listening !
Llongyfarchiadau, dymuniadau gorau, hwyl fawr,
a 'Lle mae'r 'Sony Award' siocled ?
Well done, the PM Team!
Thanks for giving us the space on which to play and interact and we're glad we didn't let you down.
Yes, without us you can't interact - but, quite frankly, without you we wouldn't want to interact. And all that very hard work by Lissa, Marc and Eddie since last August, the perseverance in the face of adversity, bloggage, etc. - All we did was hang on and enjoy ourselves!
A big thanks, too, to both Eddie and Marc for keeping us so firmly in the picture on what happened. You must have had better things to do, quite frankly, after last night's shenanigans (e.g. getting pi**ed - though I hope you did that too!!!)
Eddie: Award yourself a quadlatte this morning. We need you to be awake tonight!
He's hilarious, witty, charming and easy on the eyes. A gentleman and exceedingly brilliant academically at what he does. A true broadcasting pioneer in all respects, I think he's a supreme inspiration to many people. Congratulations to Chris Evans on his Sony award. Very well done indeed. (Radio Two 5pm)
it,s so good to see huge talent and hard work recognised.the fact us listeners feel so proud and part of it all is credit to you all.Day off at the beach.
Did Helen Mirren win anything last night?
Chris, London (currently 19):
You have, I'm sure, posted something equally flattering about Eddie on Mr. Evans Blog? A blog, to which, you are, no doubt, no stranger.
GMTV premium telephone quiz:
Tony Blair will leave office in:
A) 1997
B) 2001
C) 2007
Calls are charged at an undisclosed rate...
Will we all get individual replicas?
Writer, Presenter & Performer: Eddie Mair
Eric - you've more jobs that Carolyn Quinn.
Happy days!
Congratulations! V v pleased for all the froggers.
Best wishes, Lissa x
Thanks Anne P for the info on the Sony site. I've now watched the relevant section and it is hilarious, mainly because Amanda Platell who presents the award is complete pants and ungraciously rude with it, partly because our Eddie isn't even there, but mostly 'cos of "Thanks to the froggers, you know who you are!" Yippee. I've never won anything before in my life.
I echo all Big Sis's comments - award or no, Lissa, Marc, Eric, and all the producers and tecchies have created a great blog, and made it work with the programme brilliantly.
And well done too for the speech prog silver where the competition is so strong.
If it's an award for 'interactivity' , does that make us award winning listeners?
John H refered to celebrity in his speech, does this make Eddie and Sequin celebrities? They'll be wanting a taxi home after the show next (notice I called it a show) Showbiz! You're in showbiz now.. enjoy.. long flowing designer dress for Carolyn, top hat and tails for the Mairmeister! Pirouettes with flourish on the ice at 5.
Dare you NOT to mention your success on the programme! Dare you!
Congratulations to many, but apparently not all. Why doesn't Sparky Marc get a mention, at least for the Interactive prize? But for his efforts, we would still be in September most days of the week. Is it because he is still too new a Blog Prince to count. Well done to everyone at PM who helped to make the programme what it is. You all deserve these prizes.
H.
We'll never thear the last of this now
Carl (30), I did indeed have a swipe at "celebrity". It really is the curse of radio journalism.
Oh no, I'm having an identity crisis.
Lissa-with-an-A
If we send messages to you via Marc, will he send them on to you?
We still miss you, and know that you had a very, very big hand in the success of the Blog. Thank you - You're a stAr!!!
Sincerest congratulations to you all on these really well deserved awards - and fantastic to think we on the blog have played a part as well!
I feel very proud, and honoured to have been part of this role, in fact I would just like to take a moment to thank my family, my friends, our dear departed pet guineau pigs (God rest their souls), so many in fact helped make this possible............(trails off sobbing)
And yes more pics please - where are you Eddie?! Come on don't be shy!!
I may have said this before but I think this is the a particularly outstanding blog - serious, fun, silly, intelligent, supportive and never eny bitching or back biting. However, the thing that brought us all together is the PM programme and the success of this site is down to all involved.
Keep it up! :)
News just in...
...Fresh from their triumph on the international stage, the PM team will receive a euphoric welcome home with an open-top bus parade through the streets of White City. Family, friends, and froggers will line the route throughout the area to cheer the return of the winning team.
Still elated from the victory at the Sony awards, held last night. Eddie Mair said today he would never be happier in his life. Speaking from London, he said: "Now I've got more than my dream come true. Whatever happens now, I don't really care. Everything I've dreamed of has come true." He then added, "Let the healing begin".
Excellent! No surprise really...
You are STARS!
Mollyxx
Eddie,
I used to have a Sony Walkman, but that's not quite the same, is it??
Lee (23) - Yep, she won a night out with me!
Susan OB, I think it probably is, especially if it was a silver one. Prompted by others, I went along to the Sony Award website to view the frog's moment of fame - how ace! Even if the "Wogan moment" was a it cringe inducing.
Incidentally, is the ceremony broadcast on telly at all? It looked like a fairly fun affair. But it occurs to me that perhaps it's because it's not broadcast that it's like that!
Just a thought....have the judges actually been reading the Froggers thoughts? Blimey.
Just a fantastic result altogether. Very magnaminous of PR to mention the froggers in his acceptance speech - and I echo the others who rightly say that what we have in common is a love of the programme, Eddie (some of us more than others, I know) and everyone in the team who makes the programme and the day around it such a great experience.
Onwards and upwards - if there's anywhere left to go!!
xx
witchiwoman (43)
Hope so- don't you? ;-)
Mollyxx
Congratulations to you all - well deserved.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDDIE SONY PIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done kid!
You've the ability to reach out with comment and insight...YOU BETCHA!
I love PM, you deserve it. No modesty.
Still excited from last night (well it's ages since I got first 'dibs' on a Thread!).
Hearty congratulations for everyone's hard work and obvious enthusiasm :o)
Molly (45) -
I wonder if the judges have been responsible for some of the more 'stiry' comments? So long as they haven't been teasing the camels!
I'm just surprised you didn't mention the Sonys in the newsletter ;-)
Well done to all but I still think Eddie should have had one of the personality awards.
Well done, all at R4!
Truly deserved acclaim for a world-class service that keeps the democracy democratic.
Wolf
Isn't this marvellous? Well done, all.
I heard Sequin on the Today programme this morning, so assume she wasn't there to take her fair share of glory? Or she didn't go to lseep, and spent the evening on fizzy water?
witchiwoman- do you think that they assume the mantle of the Lurker- not that we've had one recently. I think you may be right. Those camels look frisky......
Mollyxx
If anyone's still reading this thread.....congratulations, well done you lot. Keep it up!
I'm new to this interactive side and a bit worried it may be contagious or addictive. What's wrong with good old-fashioned shouting at the radio? Works for me...
Re suzeemoon (55) There is absolutely nothing wrong with that approach to old-fashioned interactivity with the radio. In fact it has a number of advantages. The responce is immediate! There is no moderation of "off-topic" items! You can use any language that you choose! And you are always right!!!
The only problem is that it does not help Mr. Mayor win awards. You may think "so what?" but that attitude could lead you to having a nostril-flaring session from Big Sister. Please trust me on this one, you do not want one of those!
H.
Thanks for info and support Humph (56)
I see your point about awards, though...
I have been known to mention Mr. Mair on MY blog, but not sure if that counts as interactive...
[sigh] I miss his banter with Fi...
Is Big Sister a moderator or just protective of the nice Mr.M?
Suzee;
BigSis is an original, one of the early contributors to the Blog. And, like many of us here, a big fan of the Edd-meister.
She's a legend on the Blog and definitely not a mod!
We never see or hear from the mods, you only know that they exist because the odd post never makes it through. We do sometimes hear from the PM production team on the 'Glass Box' threads.
Welcome, by the way. Hope to see more of you around here. I direct your attention to the 'Beach' where there's normally drinks and eats to be found, left by other Froggers.
Si.
I wish my nostrils DID flare - I've always thought that looked rather sexy on, e.g. Sean Connery ....
Suzeemoon: Please ignore Humph on this one. I am certainly a 'fan' of the Lord Mayor's style of broadcasting, but I'm neither a moderator nor indiscriminate. I'm sure we've all wanted to scream at the radio sometimes.
Humph: I'm assuming you're 'taking the michael' rather than trolling? :o)
I heard the programme last night, shortly before having to leave to go and watch Madelaine Peyroux, so can only vent my undiminished spleen here.
Who is this Amanda Thing? I know Victoria Derbyshire only because her inane vapidity caused me to revert to waking up to the Today programme, despite Julian Worrecker's best efforts. Now there is a broadcaster who could do with being removed from the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s own version of the Daily Mail - Radio 5.
O I feel better now.
Big Sis (59) Yes it was meant to be Michael taking. I think that maybe I should have used the phrase "certain Froggers" rather than name an individual but I was distracted by the Footy on TV whilst Frogging. I know, I know, no excuse and I promise not to do it again until this evening when there is another game to watch.
H.
´óÏó´«Ã½'s own version of the Daily Mail - Radio 5.
And there was me thinking that the Have Your Narrow-Minded Say section of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ was just that.
Too nice to frog for a couple of days, but CONGRATULATIONS, and I agree with what they (the awarders) said.
BRILL!
