Hmmmm When I looked at this posting at work, the photo wasn't the one there now! It was my Pointless Postcard from last year. At least you spotted it and changed it, Eddie....
The Environment Agency are also building inland versions, dubbed "flood storage reservoirs". A large chunk of marshland on the Stour floodplain has been converted to the purpose by building embankments around the edges and culverts/sluices connecting it to the river.
I missed the early part of the article, but the gist I got is that we call these areas flood plains & someone is proposing building on them!!!
