Around noon yesterday
as we tried to do Mrs Pointon and Ms Allsopp, both scheduled for recording at almost exactly the same moment, this
was Manveen, who often works on PM, trying to fix everything with the use of only two telephones. All PM producers are trained to use five telephones at once, while typing, getting tea, and pretending to laugh at things I say. So two phones, as you can see, was something to smile about.
The photo was taken in the production booth of Studio S1 - where PM comes from. But at noon it's the property of Dame Martha who kindly agreed to let us borrow it.
And they are telephones apparently nailed to the wall. That's not very user friendly, is it? How can you keep talking, whilst fetching your triple espresso from the far desk?
I think you were jolly lucky that Manveen didn't hit someone with that phone!
Fifi
... And somebody was (helpfully!) handing her yet another phone.
Well done, Manveen, for keeping such a lovely smile while all around you falls apart. :o)
But whose hand is that on the left trying to hand Manveen another phone? The nation should be told!
She cannot be someone who works on PM! You can see the top of her head in the photograph ;-). It may have been two phones at the time, by I can see a third approaching rapidly.

.....good point well made...I have never actually noticed that anomaly before!

fif, telephones nailed to wall means they dont go missing :-)
Poor Martha - I think it's rather cheeky to jeapordise WATO with less than an hour to go?

I don't realise why the three or four 'current affairs' programmes don't originate from Broadcasting House.
On my recent visit I was surprised at how many empty booths there were. The session that Chris was involved in (utilising a huge studio and production booth on the top floor larger than S1) finished at 3PM. The next programme to use the booth and studio was the moral maze was at 8PM
On the Radio 4 / ´óÏó´«Ã½ 7 floor - although editorial space is limited nearly all the Studio's /Booths were unused as most editing is done in the editorial areas on the computers. Oh there was a nice man making trails in one booth I recall?
It seems rather a waste of resources and electricity - if facilities are so stretched at TVC. - and surely it's easier to get contributors in to Broadcasting House rather than travelling across to West London?
Still it's the ´óÏó´«Ã½ - it's what they do.
Jonnie: If memory serves me right, the idea was to put all the ´óÏó´«Ã½ News stuff together (apart from the Westminster studio) so that resources could be better used.
No doubt the Lord Mair can put us right on this?
Big Sis (13)
...personally I think ´óÏó´«Ã½ News an C. Affairs should be moved down to Ashtead in Surrey, that would give those *&^%$£*& NIMBY's something to really moan about......?
ttfn.....expletive deleted.....init?

PS to the above: I still remember the phantom driller when Today was broadcast from BH, and the references to being 'in the basement'. No doubt the view's a lot better up at the White City.
There was some drilling going on there last week - but the building and views are much nicer from BH. When everything is completed it will look fabulous.
It's great to be in the centre with all the pubs and shops on the doorstep. TV Centre looks very dated in comparison - and the studio's at BH are state of the art - just a shame they don't get more use.
I agree with the being central bit - but the basement can't have been nice.
Would Eddie move back there? - Well, Eddie, would you? Lots of coffee bars, I hear .......
macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte; macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte; macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte; macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte; macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte; macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte; macciato; espresso; triplelatte; americano; quadlatte .................. Simon W (6) That's right.....if you want something done, ask a busy woman ;o)
Gillian (18) - Busy woman yourself! You don't really have time to be frogging here, do you? Have you finished that packing yet?
Have a good holiday!
Gillian (18)
I know you r proby busy...but can u fix a 'bloogage'?
Looks like Manveen is right-handed and left-eared. Like me. Anyone else?

I admire people who can multi task 'till they're interrupted.
Or asked for help when they are doing something else.
I love it when they say 'Ive only got one pair of hands' whilst scowling a smile.
Sid (21) I think it's only because her right ear was otherwise engaged!
Humph (4) - you're right!
When I was honoured to have taken, a definite clause was invoked...
[apologies if the link doesn't work - but don't worry, its not that funny]
btw is it appropriate for me to find Manveen del.icio.us or even Digg her..??
[ahem]
BigSis (17): with a little rearrangement, you could turn those coffees into a Macarena parody, similar to the pasta-based "Hey Macaroni!"...
Looks as though Manveen is getting very close to par - two calls currently on the go, a third phone being passed to her, AND a fourth (as yet unused) phone in the background...
I'd never be able to remember who was on which phone, so to hold three/four simultaneous conversations is pretty impressive!
