As a first-time contributor to the blog, I was deeply flattered to have my contribution read out last night. But my words sounded so strange in your reader's voice. I wonder how you pick the voice?
........still think farting wales would have been a very popular listener choice....
DIY
I missed this last night. How lovely. I particularly liked the sound of Ambridge burning. I feel another Sony coming on...
DIY - Are you casting nasturtiums on the Welsh?
DIY - Is this what living in Clun taught you?
DIY - You talking about me?
my suggestion for a big ben replacement would be a one-line tip for spreading a little happiness
e.g. 'introduce yourself to one neighbour who you have for months or years had only a nodding aquaintance'
or 'thank some-one / anyone for being so helpful - shop worker, secretary, colleague, friend . . '
a different tip each day
Re David H, I had something read out on the Today program once. Much more important that.
My first attempt... not sure if in the right place!!
But 'Sounds of Summer' might include: lawn mower, children playing, ice cream van, sea gulls, punch & judy, waves on beach, splashing in pool, buzzing bees, distant cuckoo, combine harvester, clink of glasses and pouring liquid... May think of more, good occupation when visiting mum in the Nursing home!!
Wonderful prog. Love Eddie

Ah Anne P and Frances O (another thread), I take it back -- it has happened to me now.
NBP (Sparky) Mark -- the previous thread (Summer Sounds) has no "next" button!
Is the lack of bongs a sign of the chimes?
Zorba (11) Hahahaha :-)
Regarding Big Ben not being recorded.
A few years ago,I was staying at one of the hotels near there, and I was sitting in my room listening to radio 4 just before midnight, and my radio had the chimes of Big Ben a few seconds before the real one chimed. Now tell me it isn't recorded!

This is not a complaint but a plea for birdsong to replace a silent Big Ben for a month. Please!
